Traditions for the holidays are great as long as there is a family Whether by blood or friendship of the heart, the gathering of people wanting to spend the holidays together on events is something that requires that bonding feeling of people. Having a Christmas tree and presents for the family & friends were part of what I remembered as that showing that love to others. It didn't matter if mom gave us underwear or socks, she knew her boys didn't always buy their own in those days of a big family and little money. Decorating the Xmas tree, putting up auntie's handmade clothes pin doll characters ornaments, as aunty made each one by hand, painted, glued, cut the material, sewed and found the right accessories of each clothes pin ornament. I treasure those handmade kitchen potholders, quilts made by grandma and aunty. That holiday event dissipated when the kids became adults, parents passed away and grandchildren are too adult to spend time with. Christmas and New Year's Day were always family meals, where the family sat down to meals with mom, dad, siblings, and family. Whether it's Christmas, New Year's, Easter, Thanksgiving, or Fourth of July, we had holiday meals with the family. New Year's Eve, my wife from the big island, makes soba to eat on New Year's Eve, on New Year's Day, there is the Japanese Oozoni, & Nishime versus the Korean tteok and mandoo soup. Those were required depending on if it was the Korean side or the wife's Japanese traditions, sometimes both at home and parent's house. Fireworks were tradition when young but now adult and older, the expense, clean up and novelty worn thin, especially with no parents/in-laws or nephews/nieces/grandchildren and only pets too scared to be left alone when fireworks make it a war zone to their sensitive hearing. One has to be in the mood for fireworks. I learned decades ago, meeting a friend on New Year's Eve in Waikiki, and driving on Kalakaua to meet at a hotel and having driven through a gauntlet of people throwing fireworks at the vehicles from both sides and from hotel rooms/upper floors down onto the car. The dangers of fireworks on others that are put at risk by unconcerned users makes the activity no longer desirable. It no longer is fun or a celebration when its your property or people you care are injured.

I miss the fireworks at new year's so much! You could be standing a foot away from the phone and not hear it because of the fireworks. I lived in Ewa Beach and then up Makakilo and the fireworks was insane! I heard about the law against the fireworks, after I left and was so mad. Stupid people moving in and complaining about traditions that are so unique to the islands. We used to have a massive spread set out between us and the neighbours and anyone who stopped by to wish us Happy New Year's were invited to eat.

I’ll start massive house cleaning on Dec 26. It’s a big task, but cleaning with a thankful attitude helps me a lot. I’m thankful for having a home to clean. Dunno if you’d rather use natural cleaning products, but Lysol’s power bathroom foamer spray is pretty good. It loosens the soap scum so no need scrub too much.

    Four tips for tub cleaning:
    1. Mix hydrogen peroxide and with some baking soda, shake and let it sit until the baking soda dissolves. Spray on the grout lines for a 1/2 hour, and scrub with a medium bristle brush. Wear glasses so it doesn't go in your eyes.
    2. Lightly spray a coat of rubbing isopropyl alcohol on the tile walls at least once every so often (your discretion). This will prevent build-up on and in the grout grooves.
    3. You should take a shower last. As you can wash down the walls (with just water) to ensure that there is no soap scum/residue remaining on the tiles & grooves.
    4. Lastly, in cleaning your shower head. Place/submerge the head in a small bucket/container with cleaning vinegar for about an hour. While wearing glasses, lightly scrub the shower head & nozzles with the medium bristle brush.
I wouldn't recommend using a Scotch pad when scrubbing your tiles, as they will leave micro-scratches on your tiles, which will possibly lead to more bacteria being trapped on your tile surface...just a thought.
If your hands are sensitive to cleaners, always wear gloves and rinse your hands after regardless.
    Hope this helps.

You may need to add a grout sealer.

You probably won't like this suggestion, but if you all take a shower one right after the other, then the last one actually wipes down the shower, it will delay the formation of mold. Especially if you're only going to clean it once a year!! LOL!
