    I have a automatic vintage timex from eBay that I got for £17 it’s from 1977, is gold plated, has a cushions case and I love it!

    I just picked up a box lot of watches at an auction for $12. There are some Seiko citizen and a couple of really nice old automatic Timex watches in unbelievably good condition and very sharp looking.
    there are great deals to be had you just have to look 🤙

    Very good video, once I got a vintage edox automatic for $5, although I think a timex is a bit better for ruggedization reasons.

    I’ve got a vintage Timex 100 handwinding watch I would guess is from the ‘50s. I found it at Goodwill for about $3.50 US at the time. My grandpa replaced the movement for me, actually was one of the last watches he worked on for me.
    As to your moisture issue, sorry if I’m repeating what others have said, but I would remove the caseback and let it sit like that under a little heat of some kind.

      Thank you for sharing, Clayton. What a great story and it probably makes the watch 100 times more special to you now. Just shows that sometimes our favourite watches aren't the ones that cost the most.
      Thank you for the solution to the moisture problem. I've removed the case back over night and now the moisture is gone. All the best, Oleg.

    Nice. I got a very similar condition 1979 version for $22. Not too shabby at all. I mostly got it because it's one of the only watches manufactured in Taiwan (where I was born), and right around the same time period. That said, the sentimental value is priceless.

    Hello my friends Oleg & Bond; a great review & initial impressions on both of these pieces! I have a mini collection of Timex myself and what you have here is remarkable! A mechanical, hand wind Timex in excellent condition for it's age, with day/date complication that still keeps good time, yet likely never serviced!! Btw, the last two digits of the number at the bottom of the dial should be the year it was made, so 1975?

    • @24hourstime
      @24hourstime  6 років тому +2

      Thank you my friend. I am very excited about this watch, you're probably right on it has never being serviced before. I'll make sure to get it serviced soon. Thank you for helping me date the watch. 1975 seems like the right year. All the best, Oleg and Bond.

      @@24hourstime the two last digits on the numbers at the bottom of the watch DO indicate the year of manufacture. You have a bona-fide 1975 watch my friend!

    Thanks for the review. I would like to know if it can be hand wound, because I have a similar one, but it's only automatic, it doesn't hand wind.

    I have a vintage Bulova automatic from 1950 . On the original Stretch band . Runs a min fast a day . I don't care I just re set it . Maybe I will regulate it myself one day . 17 joules. It is cool to have a 70 + year old watch that still runs .

    Advise. Set the number date first stem out turning it forward through the hours. then the day by turning it backwards through the hours. The day of the week wil go quicker turning it backwards. That's the way you set it. I have one from 1974

    Wow! Those are awesome finds. At $8 it is amazing, cool story with a very cool watch.
    When you put the Seastar in rice did you take the back off? I have had good success with removing the case back and leaving it to dry out...adding the rice will act as a desiccant allowing you to seal the watch (in a bag) and protect the movement. Then it sounds like you might want to replace the seal on the crystal and case back (and maybe stem).
    Thanks for another great video :)

    • @24hourstime
      @24hourstime  6 років тому +1

      Thank you for your advice, Jeffrey. I will remove the case back this time. You're probably right the seal on the crystal and maybe the stem most likely has to be replaced. I'll check when I get it serviced.
      I'm really excited about this Timex. I just can't get over the condition of the watch for the age. All the best, Oleg.

    And I'd thought the Tevises were inexpensive! Lots of charm in those two pieces. I love the presentation of the numerals on the Timex. And the Tissot is a stunner. Great finds! And, yes, please do share how you use toothpaste and nail polish implement (is it the brush you're talking about) to buff out scratches on an acrylic crystal. That'd be a great separate video . . . your first how-to, at that. Thanks, as always, for sharing.

    • @24hourstime
      @24hourstime  6 років тому

      Thank you Henry. The numerals at 6,9 and 12 were a big selling feature for me. And for $6.50 it was a no brainer. I will do a tutorial very soon, but now I realized that I buffed out scratches from all of my acrylic crystal watches lol. So I have to go and find another vintage watch to use for the tutorial. I guess it's back to the flea market.
      All the best, Oleg.

    Hi Oleg, great find. I have a 1975 Timex, steel with a date complication at just 30mm. But changing the date after it hasn't been worn for a bit is a pain. You have to turn the hands fully through 24 hrs for each day. But apart from that I love it.

    • @24hourstime
      @24hourstime  6 років тому

      Thank you, my friend. The lack of quick set date can get a bit annoying, but at the same time it's what makes these watches so charming. All the best, Oleg.

    Oleg congratulations, you win! What a lucky find. I does look and sounds like this proud little Timex needs service. Maybe after all these years of operations it deserves some love of a proper watchmaker. About your problem with the Tissot, why not take of the watchback and put it somewhere warm. Not to warm.. For protection against dust, put it under a glass bowl. The moisture will be gone quickly.

    • @24hourstime
      @24hourstime  6 років тому

      Thank you, Joop! I got really lucky finding this Timex. The condition is great and it runs really well. You're probably right about the service. I will get the watch serviced soon.
      Thanks for the advice on Tissot. I will remove the case back, hopefully that works. When I service the Tissot I'll check the seals as well. All the best, Oleg.

    I've played this once I have a vintage Timex the same one my grandfather gave me except the difference in mine is boldface and the numbers are all squares like those numbers you have a 12 + 6 + 9 mine are like that although and the inside has a spring movement and a battery the case back has like a keyhole kind of looking thing on it and inside it says made in France and this one inside also says two jewels

    Very nice find Oleg, I own a Timex but a quartz one. As regards mechanical watches I have found my Orient 3 Star to be the best I have ever had and certainly beats my Seiko 5 for accuracy. I have just replaced the bracelet on my Orient to a light brown crocodile leather strap and it looks amazing. Certainly have had some good comments on it as it really shows off the Gold/Brown sundial effect face. I wear this watch a lot, it's a beater watch for me because I can rely on its reliability being an in house movement. At just over £60 on Ebay UK, the Orient 3 Star watches are really great value.

    Timex vintage pre 80s are great value for money for mechanical watch . But do note their latest Use China movement. so Do note their very latest Mechanical watch that looks vintage by deliberate design . i have a Vintage 1st Gen KING SEIKO from early 60s. super accurate too to Below 5seconds per day ... vintage watch do not means poor accuracy. especially those Japanese or Swiss movement ones, even those whom brands we may not heard before. many SWISS watches are not really swiss brands but brands by small microbrands based in UK, Europe or Asia that USES SWISS MOVEMENTS INSIDE

    You got an awesome deal on that Timex, and those watches are extremely reliable, their slogan was "takes a licking and keeps on ticking" and they meant it, they used to be incredibly good and examples like that will easily go for $50-$100 (possibly more) on ebay just because of how good they are and that one is in gorgeous condition too!

    Great find. I went into a vintage watch and clock shop today on a short excursion in Florida while on vacation. There were 3 1980's vostok kommanderski's in showcase. Poor shape. Owner was asking 175.00 for each. I wanted to say good luck selling them.

      Thank you Morris. Damn $175 for a vintage Vostok is waaay too much. It’s so common for little shops to over value their watches. By the way it’s really cool that you went to visit some vintage watches shops on your trip. I do that when I’m visiting other cities as well. All the best, Oleg.

      On an important reminder on watch sealants, the usual culprit on over looked watch part is the dial's window sealant.
      Do have the window's sealant replaced as well.
      That prevents condensation from reoccuring.

      The "service"recommended by timex at the time of production. Was to remove whole movement and put in a container of white gas aka ligherfluid to help dissolve any build up of gunk the let white gass evaporate and put it back together.

    I won a 1980s Indian HMT Janata watch, with a bright green numeral and cream colored dial for FIVE DOLLARS on Ebay from a USA seller, it's definitely not a fake being incredibly accurate and will run for almost 40 hours on a wind and the face has this really interesting running minute sub chapter with very fine gradient with minute marks and minutes (like 1 is 05) on the outside. Bid on it thinking I wouldn't win for that cheap, only bidder and incredibly impressed with it. Like with my Russian watches it get's a lot of "what the heck is that?" comments for just being really unique

    If it was my watch I’d use a rubber round ball case back remover and a puffer and blow some being careful not to go crazy near the balance wheel. With no jewels I’d say it’s a pin lever movement that’s why it’s loud when u turn the crown. And those watches are hard to service. I took a old time timex and removed the movement and it wasn’t word taking apart because I don’t think it will fit together again. Google pin lever movements.

      It would be interesting to hear which watches get the most wrist time, in the context of, say, a very brief "state of the collection." We usually hear (on UA-cam) about watches one at a time, and occasionally will get a SOTC, but I think an interesting tack would be to hear which ones you end up wearing in practice, and why.
