I remember this day so well. 276 was a pretty big score back then , it ended in the evening my dad came go pick me from school and he said it was an incredible game.
When I wathced this live I was devastated. Now when I see this now, sort of made peace with it. Marillier was brilliant against a very fine Indian bowling attack. He hit Kumble and Zaheer without any mercy. Nerves of Steel.

I remember watching this game live. Zaheer had impecable bowling figures before his second spell. This game was 3 days before my birthday and I was utterly devastated by India's defeat. I think the series was tied at 2-2 and Dinesh Mongia scored 159 in the final game that helped India win the series.

I have to say this...tailender batting needs to be divided into 2 eras: Pre-Marillier and Post-Marillier. No one had ever witnessed the kind of batting display that Douglas dished out that day. Also in a way, this guy kind of revolutionised "unsophisticated but effective" batting and people suddenly became bolder and tried many new shots that has made Cricket what it's today.
I still remember watching this match Live in Doordarshan from Faridabad. I also remember Rahul Dravid attempting the doug scoop in the next match of this series.. Zim was one of the toughest team to beat back then.. Cricket has lost its charm certainly with team like them becoming a victim of politics and yes because of IPL also..

No wonder Indian bowlers and the captain himself were all at sea in the face of this unprecedented assault by a relatively unknown entity. I myself was too shocked to react at that time when this happened, something scarcely believable for me.. but now when I look back it .. I can't help but just marvel at the audacity and innovativeness of this wonderful innings by the champion player.. Douglas Marillier.. I wished he played many more such innings and got due respect that he well and truly deserved. His name got etched in my mind after that innings.

मेने ये मैच देखा था तब में बोहत छोटा था कभी जीवन मे इस मैच को नही भूल सकता। बडा दुख होता है जब इस महान बल्लेबाज को इस शॉट का क्रेडिट नही दिया जाता। और ना इसका नाम लिया जाता है । dil scoup , misbah और बाकी सारे तो बोहत साल बाद आये और इस शॉट को अपने नाम कर लिया। दिलशान और बाकी सरो की माँ का भसडा जो 1 बार भी नही कहा कि यह शॉट तो हमसे पहले ही डगलस लगा चुका था।

I have to say this...tailender batting needs to be divided into 2 eras: Pre-Marillier and Post-Marillier.
No one had ever witnessed the kind of batting display that Douglas dished out that day.
Also in a way, this guy kind of revolutionised "unsophisticated but effective" batting and people suddenly became bolder and tried many new shots that has made Cricket what it's today.
Prior to this there were some innings were Abdul Razzaq showed some serious batting for a tailender but later he worked as all rounder.
I still remember watching this match Live in Doordarshan from Faridabad. I also remember Rahul Dravid attempting the doug scoop in the next match of this series.. Zim was one of the toughest team to beat back then.. Cricket has lost its charm certainly with team like them becoming a victim of politics and yes because of IPL also..

But marikiwr came and changes the march stil i do remember.. Missing those days yar wat was an era of cricket in those days.. Missing so much those old days
He was a real freak and this innings of his was decades ahead of time. He played scoop and stuff way before anyone had even thought of it, let alone plan for it. No wonder Indian bowlers and the captain himself were all at sea in the face of this unprecedented assault by a relatively unknown entity. I myself was too shocked to react at that time when this happened, something scarcely believable for me.. but now when I look back it .. I can't help but just marvel at the audacity and innovativeness of this wonderful innings by the champion player.. Douglas Marillier.. I wished he played many more such innings and got due respect that he well and truly deserved. His name got etched in my mind after that innings.
Remember how heartbroken I was after this match. I was in 4th standard when it was played and now I am gonna get married this year. How time flies!
