Man, I pay $180 at least 4-6 times a year to have this done. Might as well rent one and start doing it myself... Or maybe even buy one. Doesn't really look that hard.
$180 to snake a main drain is a good price. I paid 500 for this machine years ago. Definitely paid for itself. Only thing I've done is change the cable to a 5/8 to lighten up the machine for going down steps. Watch this video first ua-cam.com/video/7mVevlRbmh8/v-deo.html
Sorry to hear you didn't get the drain cleared. I personally don't like going through a floor drain. No Cleanout? Happy to hear you had fun. How did u get it cleared?
@@handylandlord I used the drain because I couldn't unscrew the iron cast cleanout cap. Eventually, I had to call real plumbers. They just cut off the cap and were able to snake 120 ft to the city sewage. The clog was about 90 ft from the cleanout. It's funny that there is a cleanout outside, but it's buried under the driveway slab. The cost was $400, including a video inspection. This is close to the price of renting the same equipment that they used.
How are the 3/4' drain cables direct cables? Have you noticed if they are better than / not as good as Ridgid official cables? Have you ever snapped one or got it kinked?
I believe my cable is 5/8 110ft but after looking at the drain cables direct website I can't find my cable. The only Ridgid cable I have ever had is on my k400 and I did not like that end because it was so big/long when going into an old cast sanitary tee. But I've been told, I have no idea what I'm doing from " professional plumbers" on UA-cam. hahah This is my nightmare drain, still engraved in my brain. ua-cam.com/video/NCTuIMT4iaU/v-deo.html As you know plumbing repairs are probably my number one call. I think you are doing a great thing investing in the equipment. I still keep a few drain cleaners/ plumbers in my phone if I'm too busy or just don't want to snake a drain. But that's rare haha.
Is your 5/8" wire inner core, plastic inner core or hollow core? I've seen a bunch of Plumbers say 5/8" is too small for roots but curious to hear what you think. Is this before or after you broke your cable in that one horror video lol?
@@DaniilStanisevschi I’m going to confirm it’s 5/8. Possible it’s 11/16. I’m looking at the website and can’t find what I have under 5/8. Yes, same cable I snapped but that was a unique situation. That doesn’t normally happen. Haha
Great videos. Get rid of that eel and get a K60 brother. You can take it anywhere. I have used my Steel Dragon Chinese K60 and K50 both a million times. Forget about that back breaking 300lbs prehistoric machine
Yes. I paid $400 about 10 years ago. A little hard if u are going up and down steps. No slides on back of machine. If it has the electric eel cable I have some extra cutters. Can mail u. I switched my cable to slip joint type end. ua-cam.com/video/7mVevlRbmh8/v-deo.html
Some machines have an auto feed on the front where the cable comes out. I do not have that. This is all done manual. The reverse on the motor is to help get cable unstuck. In and out of pipe is all done with muscle(Aka I’m shredded).
@@bhadz100 It’s roots from trees. They work their way into the joints through the old clay pipe. It could be leaking a little but not being under pressure the water will take the path of least resistance. I just got a camera recently to inspect the sewer lines more throughly after the clog is cleared.
I hooked a big one. I just love to play in poop. If I wasn’t a landlord I would be an honest plumber at a fair price.

I wish I was half this optimistic while dealing with hell. As stressed as I’ve been, this made me smile. Thanks.
Haha. Glad this made u smile.
Just tried to snake floor drain in basement with 50 ft 1/2 inch EEL that rented with home depot. It didn't help. But got a lot of fun.

It may be prehistoric...but most older items were made to last...how reliable is this electric eel machine?
Did u buy yours used from home depot from tool rentals...i called a few stores and they regularly sell their used ones hen they get new ones in
No I got it off Facebook marketplace. I’ve seen them for-sale at Home Depot. Normally $600 to $1000.
Is that a decent machine ..my neighbor wants to sell me used one with 3/4 cable

Tree roots.
