And this is why I love these dudes...never for a moment do they take themselves or the Industry seriously. Pretty much everything in this song...so much truth...so much cheek...so much Josh being Josh. Perfection!
+redraven24 yup! and it's about time someone said something and when i found out THEY WERE THE ONE'S WHO DID I WAS LIKE THIS Y I LOVE U GUYS ALL THESE YEARS!
This song was genius. This video was genius. I understand that some people think that there was too much nudity, but then again, please keep in mind that: 1) These girls were green screened and censored, unlike half of the music videos this song was parodying 2) It's supposed to have too much nudity and be way to sexualized, seeing that, this is what the majority of pop songs contain today.
@Ev Evenying Violin Gacha you still didn't get it, even after somebody took the time to explain it? Parody mate. This is but a parody of generic pop songs
@Ev Evenying Violin Gacha Well of course the music video is making fun of other pop music videos, because that is exactly what the song itself is doing. They go hand in hand. Both are mocking generic pop stuff. Listen to the lyrics, the whole song is telling you how to make a generic, catchy pop song, while at the same time, making of fun of it.
@Ev Evenying Violin Gacha Well that's a nice sentiment, like the phrase, "if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all". The thing is, sometimes unpleasant truths need to be voiced. That phrase about saying something nice is simplistic and doesn't always reflect reality. The simple fact is that criticism is sometimes necessary. Are they mocking pop songs merely to be jerks, or are they trying to point out truths to people in order to steer music in a better direction? That I don't know.

I basically went on to write lyrics that explain step by step exactly what’s happening in the music at that moment. It definitely pokes a lot of fun but it’s also meant as a tip of the hat to those artists. Above all, it’s very me - clever, silly and sassy to the core.”-Josh Ramsay
Brilliant...I never interpreted this song as hating itself....it kinda celebrates pop music with humility ...you obviously wrote it to show off a little too...as you should have....much respect from an older guy who definitely didn't fit your demographic but accidentally noticed your talent....and your post...lol.
on one hand this PERFECTLY encapsulates the all the basic characteristics of late 2000s-early 2010s pop songs but at the same time this is also kind of a period piece bc pop music has evolved a lot in the past decade; that being said this makes me feel super nostalgic for that era bc that’s the kind of music i grew up with
The girl at the beginning, with the pink hair, is basically the most adorable person I have ever seen in my entire life. Like I just can not get over her!
Do people not understand satire anymore. YES, this is mocking the pop genre. YES, he's making fun of other artists. YES, it sounds like this on purpose BECAUSE HE'S BEING SATIRICAL.
Ok here's all the ones I see: -0:00 - 0:24 is from Fancy, which is a scene from Clueless -0:25 is Ariana Grande impersonation -0:30 "bring the beat back" is from Karmin/Katy Perry -0:31 is 'your love is my drug' by Kesha -0:35 is 'sexy back' by justin timberlake -0:47 and the chorus is a scene from plenty of music videos, kind of looks like a boy band video at first -1:30 is Black Eyed Peas, obviously, haha -1:46 is Mumford And Sons, I thought it was Timber at first -2:43 is Miley Cyrus, honestly from any video of hers -2:44 is Blurred Lines -3:51 sounds like Starships? -3:53 is a Redfoo impression from LMFAO -4:10 is a play off Jason Derulo when he always ends his songs with his name I think that's all of them?
It's mocking/making references all the other major pop songs and artists. If you watch they copy parts of music videos and what certain artists do in all their songs. "Pop 101"
BaconMan Just thought you might want to know that statement is "encouraging sucide" and you can go to jail for 10+ years for this, and if they do you can be convicted of manslaughter.
miranda c Not true at all, if someone killed themselves based on an internet comment on a social media it is not going to have an effect of me. I will never know. They will not convict me because it will not be my fault.
+Jazzipersun I went to their concert on Friday, at the end of the song he was laughing so hard and was like ''jason derulo'', so much shade lmfao it was hilarious
Haha that makes sense, someone told me they were having audio problems with the thing that is supposed to do the auto-tuned (Joshua Ramsay) so they probably couldn't fix it between shows.
This song is great for so many reasons. I attended their 18+ concert in Melbourne on the weekend and Josh explained that he wrote this song because his fans kept telling him how "easy" it was to write a pop song (he specifically referred to his work on 'Call Me Maybe' by Carly Rae Jepsen). So he created this, which is literally mocking the generic and cliche pop song. This clip has clear references to music videos from the likes of Robin Thicke, Mumford & Sons etc. There's supposed to be nudity, alcohol etc. This video was created for the very purpose of being outrageous. It's like a "fuck you" to cliche pop. Marianas Trench, as they have explained many times, aren't your typical clean cut pop band. They are unique, and whether you like or dislike this song, you cannot deny that.
_he(Josh) wrote “Pop 101” in order to comically explain the process of writing pop music_ Pop 101 - a catchy pop song about how to write a catchy pop song, a parody of a parody of a parody of itself.
I keep seeing so many comments on this video about how they've "lost all respect" for MT. Why? This video is making fun of typical pop, in both the song and the video. There is a ridiculous amount of nudity for a reason, that's what's in the pop videos they're making fun of. Regardless, why is that an issue in the first place? Since when is it a crime for women to feel comfortable being in their underwear/nude? We don't need to be hidden under our clothes 24/7, that's not a modern mentality. You don't have to be modest to have self esteem or a good set of morals. As a matter of fact, having the courage to show off your body SHOWS self esteem. Morality is subjective, and the girls in the video obviously wanted to be shown like this. I see no issue with this video. The song and video combined show the creative minds of Josh and the rest of the band. Cheers, Marianas Trench, and keep doing what you do.
they can be, But i if you cant understand or respect the artists then I guess your not a real fan, People claim they are fans of marianas trench but yet they pick and nag at the music they have created, Just because you like a few of their songs does not make you a fan, There's more to being a fan other then the music, and once people understand that they might chill out a bit. also i'm not saying everyone will like their music because they don't, we all have different tastes in music. Merry Christmas and if anyone is offended by that o'well, where i come from that's what we say, but that's a rant for another time.
What irritated me most was that some people's comments are portraying these girls as victims. They were paid to take their shirts off, not forced. Yes it's unlike MT to do something like this but it was in the name of comedy. They made a better pop song/video than most pop songs/videos out there, and for that they deserve an applause. Needless to say, I agree with you.
Curtis Stokman like anybody gives a shit about +1s, that's literally the saddest thing I've ever heard. Here's a +1 for you and your depressing lil life :(
Very clever, satirical. As a long time listener of Marianas Trench since they formed in 2002, one who attended one of their first shows in at Port Mansion in St Catharines, Ontario, I was hesitant for their changing their music up. However, I definitely love this. It touches on what pop music has become, with the "crappy" pop video to match (hints at blurred lines and miley cyrus videos)
Jess L Oh! Right you are, I don't know how I thought that, as I went to look it up and it's 2002. And I'm pretty sure the signed picture I have from them is older than that, not sure what I was thinking when I posted that hahaa. Thanks!
Exactly. I'm on your side. I'm Canadian and I find that I almost never say "eh" or "aboot" it's not nice to think that we say that. Americans like us because when they go to airports they have Canadian tags so people treat them nicely. Respect.
I've lived in Canada all my life an I don't think I've ever heard someone say "aboot" (unless they were joking around). I'm bad for saying "eh" though. Whenever I go down south people pick up where I'm from lol.
This song absolutely nails the stereotype of mainstream pop songs from over the past 5 years, I cant help but admire the genius of Marianas Trench. They are doing what they do best: having fun :)
To everyone taking this seriously: don't. It's satire, and I doubt the next single will be anything like this. Unless they decide to go full Weird-Al and make an entirely satirical album.
Ya Josh said the first or second single was going to be called Here's to the Zeroes so I guess that's gonna be the second one... Doesn't sound like a parody to me.
When I first heard this song, I couldn't help but thing "Damn, what happened to them?? They're not at all the same..." But after listening to it a few more times, and listening to the lyrics, I realise that they're still the same satirical, hilarious people as they were before.
It's pretty clear this song is satyrical, yet people are crying sexism and disrespect at the fact there are topless women in the video. News Flash: the video is embodied after the song: WHICH IS SATYRICAL, therefore the video will carry satyrical connotations to it as well. It's making a point that every single pop song not only sounds the same, but that every video in mainstream media also looks the same. Take for example Robin Thicke's Blurred Lines, or Nicki Minajs Anaconda. The pop industry over-sexualizes women. Thats what Mariana's Trench is pointing at. I think it's brilliant that they found a way to do that both through the song and visually through the video. The topless women are used to pin point a trend in pop videos, not to show that for whatever reason this is something Mariana's Trench supports. People need to get a real understanding and purpose of the video before criticizing and bashing the band.
Exactly! This is just Marianas Trench doing what they do best: Being sarcastic and jokingly poking fun at everything that can be made fun of! Josh in particular is great at this :)
Apparently those who are saying how inappropriate this video was have never watched any of the mainstream vids going on out there right now *Cough* Anaconda *cough* ..... Keep in mind that this is a parody of all the clichéd crap in pop music. I think they did a fabulous job at poking fun at mainstream pop personally! They hit the hammer right on the head!
Why are people so upset about this??? THIS IS SATIRE, THIS IS HOW GROSS AND STUPID POP MUSIC VIDEOS HAVE GOTTEN. THEY'RE MAKING A SATIRE OF IT. YOU'RE OFFENDED? GOOD, THAT WAS THE POINT. NOW GET OFFENDED ABOUT THE THINGS THEY ARE MAKING A SATIRE OF BECAUSE THAT WAS THE ENTIRE POINT.
Can people seriously stop crying? This song and video is a parody of pop music...Josh knows what a great pop song is, a song that is catchy and will play continuously on the radio. Their first single needs to be something catchy that not just fans of MT will love, and this is what this is: something catchy for the radio. There are always a couple of songs on the album that are made to be released as singles. Marianas Trench never disappoints in their albums so I don't know what people are freaking out about. Artists need to evolve and change, and this band keeps on doing just that. They just keep getting better and better, and I would much rather they keep exploring new sounds rather than just staying a static band with similar songs every year. Have hope! MT never disappoints! :)
i surprisingly loved this song and video!! some people are going waaay too crazy about it thinking they are being serious with this song.. like which i cant really even understand because it's clearly mocking pop music today *makes little gun with hand and imaginary shoots self* if you have ever heard any of their albums you know they always have a couple upbeat complete fuckery fun songs to make us lol.. and then completely serious songs that make us go "ouch, my feelings that i didnt even know i had". lighten up, im sure the rest of the album is amaaazing and i for one cannot wait to hear it!! woooo
This is brilliant lmao. As if people are saying that they lost respect for Marianas Trench, they come out with amazing albums for those of us that enjoy their music, and then have fun on their own by making fun of mainstream pop music. This video isn't supposed to appease to their fans, it's supposed to make a joke with their fans so we can all make fun of the artists and videos that they are clearly parodying. This is supposed to bring their fans together, not get rid of them. I have a feeling some of you aren't very smart. But that's okay, the rest of us will enjoy the fact that this band has successfully made fun of mainstream music in a way that put them on the radio for this song. It's actually hilarious. Also, this isn't the first time MT has done something to take shots at other artists and music videos, so this isn't anything new.
I will ALWAYS love and appreciate this song. It's the first Marianas Trench song I ever heard. My older brother's girlfriend showed me this song cuz she thought that I'd like it. I did, obviously. They are an AMAZING group, and this song is hilarious.
Josh just looks so done with himself at the end. I'm so proud of the fact they can act like complete wierdos and not bat an eye. The ability to put oneself in a completely ridiculous situation with so much confidence is way too friggin rare.
I feel like MT really shaped how I grew up. I listened to them like everyday when I was younger. I knew all the words to practically every song. I'm a sarcastic little shit because of them and I love it. They also raise my Canadian pride after it was pissed on by JB.
For everyone who is saying that Marianas Trench have completely changed their sound based off this one song, I'd like to let you know that they haven't. I was at their concert in Melbourne yesterday, and they played a song off their upcoming album called 'Here's to the Zeroes,' and it is nothing like 'Pop 101,' instead more similar to their earlier albums. Don't lose faith over a song that's intended as satire.
First off: lol. I laughed so hard at this, I fell out of my chair, with armrests. Second: The parodies in here, I get his point of view. Finally: It looks like he had fun shooting this video, what with all the people and stuff. It also must have been fun to shoot the parody scenes, i.e Blurred Lines, the Miley Cyrus one, and the other random club one.
For anyone who thinks the whole album is going to be like this, remember when josh posted a clip of a song and the lyrics were "I've been deep in this sleeplessness I don't know why Just can't get it away from myself When I get back on my feet, I'll blow this open wide And carry me home in good health" So clearly that would be a more serious, not 'poppy' song, and I'm assuming that the album will be like how ever after and masterpiece theatre were. For example, Celebrity status was a poppy, upbeat song, while lover dearest was a slow, serious song. Also, for ever after, Haven't had enough was more poppy, while by now was more serious. So, don't get an idea of what the entire album will be like from one song, especially the first single because singles are meant to get people's attention and get on the radio to promote the album. :)
You did such a great work with this. I can hear this masterpiece for several hours straight. And everytime I hear this I'm overflowed with emotions. This song is probably better than most popsongs right now. Really appreciate it, thank you!
this is probably the most disliked video of theirs but that is so stupid i for one found this hilarious people keep saying they lost all respect for them but im questioning if they really ever were real fans if they were they would wait for the next video to see if it is anythting like this one
I feel like in this video, he's not so much trying to go into pop but making fun of it. The song is saying how predictable pop is by giving random lines that you can pretty much here in just about every other pop song.
This continues to be one of my favourite MT videos, because the SATIRE and HUMOUR displayed is just SPOT ON!! hahaha really taking the piss out of today's mainstream artists, and nailing it. Anyone saying they "Lost respect for MT because of this" needs to wise up and realise this whole video is both a complete joke, and a dig in the ribs at toy's pathetic mainstream media.
´´Hello! I’m Angie and I know is a lot to ask but could please check out my cover on my channel? My dream is to become a singer please help me to come true my dream, I’ll be Grateful´´
And if you reached your dream, what then? You're going to encourage people to promote themselves on such places as youtube? I'm not annoyed i've just seen so many people promote themselves and in the future will end up saying how they achieved what they wanted by something else rather than... this.
Josh's laugh at the end is so adorable. And for those of you who are hating on this song and saying that Marianas Trench because you are saying that they have changed and that their music is so different now well this song is obviously making fun of modern day music and how all these women prance around in little to nothing of clothing. You have to understand that this song is making fun of that kind of music they are still the same 4 guys as they have always been. I happen to think that their new stuff is just as good as their old stuff their stuff now is just way more creative and if you guys are to dumb to see that then I'm sorry to say that you're not really fans of them at all all you are being is haters. Josh, Matt, Ian, and Mike don't listen to the people who are saying that they have no respect for you guys and that you guys have changed because it's a lie don't let them decide how and what you do with you're music!
God I love the satire in both the song and the video - you can see which specific artists and videos they are parodying, but even then, the song still ends up being catchy. Keep going at it, Mariana's trench! Canadians represent :) That laugh at the end too - love :P
This was mind blowing!!! It takes rare talent to write up a recipe for a pop song while alluding to other artists and still making it sounds like a pop song! Amazing!! ❤️
When you've been a fan since the beginning, and then this. He just gets better and better and then even more better. He can do it all. Everything. Josh and his team never cease to blow me away. True geniuses. I freaking love Josh Ramsay.
This is so badass, the fact that they have balls to at least parody and expose how ridiculous music is nowadays. I love MARIANAS TRENCH!!' They just don't stop making me love them more
They’re so much fun live. I’ve seen them 3 times and they’re not only genuinely talented, but they have fun and don’t take themselves overly seriously. I appreciate that. And they’re from Canada, and being Canadian I love that too 🇨🇦
Fun fact; this song was supposed to be the song that made them popular in the US, the lable had everything ready to go to send it to US radio.. but the fans gave it so much negative backlash at the time because it didn't sound like a traditional "marianas trench" song, they listened and went with "One Love" instead.. the sad part is, years later this song becomes a fan favorite. Josh sacrificed his only chance at becoming popular in the US to make his fans happy :(
I love all marianas trench saw and met them couple months ago I love how they make fun in this vid and still got a catchy song here not there best by far but u got to admire this song for what it is
***** when did she (Emma Montrose) say it was Josh's dog? Look I only commented this because it looked like Josh's dog so I thought it was, plus how they were acting together, I didn't comment to get an argument going.
this band is really talented for this day and age. Their videos are well thought out and produced extremely well, and Josh writes a lot of the lyrics and music scores, his family is quite musically talented. The guys in the band are all lucky to be doing what they love and to be doing it with people that they care about and call friends. I wish more people knew who these guys are cause those that do not are truly missing out on something that is really rather amazing!!! This video is so much fun! The music is so Boots and Cats! Ha
♫ TheFieryPhoenix ♫ They were great to work with! :) Everyone was respectful on set, but i will clarify that Crew was both guys and girls :P Set was closed to needed cast and crew only for those scenes. I was also wondering where everyone is hearing about the greenscreen? hahah This was such a blast to film.. never a dull moment!
Topless women? Better make a big deal and try to cover it up so they will be "decent". Yet men can take the shirts off no problem because they're nipples aren't on top of mounds of breast tissue.
Glass Gecko Yeah but when Robin Thicke did this without censoring and filmed with the girls, it was a massive deal and he was objectifying women. So I think Marianas Trench did a pretty good job
Halle Johnson I don't think the fact that topless girls were in Blurred Lines was the issue, that shit's been going on for ages. I think the outrage came from the fact that it was a flat-out rape anthem.
Oh this was awesome! Thank you Marianas Trench for being confident enough in yourself write the song and then have a video with the right plot line to go with it. The first time I heard it, I was confused but then I listened to it over and was like YES! they have totally satirized the pop music formula! They aren't afraid to say how they feel about the crap on the radio now a days... its a formula! and its all the same! Good on ya boys
"Dumb down, they won't ignore us". SO FUCKING TRUE! Apparently people can't listen to songs nowadays because all the major hits repeat the same fucking line 100 times.
Do you know how happy I am that MT is becoming more famous now?! Been listening since I was like 5 or 6, and always knew they deserved more fans. #Pomegranateliveson Only down part is that we now have to explain to new fans that their jokes are old and used..and they need to sTOP. 😂😂
Diana Harper Ha ha, I was the same! This song deepened my love affair with them lol.

thank you, i love you for taking the time to try and clear things up with some of the "fans" who "don't get it"
I’m gay so the girls twerking was amazing 😍

This was such a fun era
I miss this type of pop

I'm a sucker for smart parodies. And this song is for everything on the radio. 😊

Do people not understand satire anymore. YES, this is mocking the pop genre. YES, he's making fun of other artists. YES, it sounds like this on purpose BECAUSE HE'S BEING SATIRICAL.
***** I think it's celebrating it too which is some of the best satire. I mean come on as overplayed as it was I got a feeling was a fun song.
his other shit sounds a lot like this too a far stride from masterpiece
Aaron Bowman It's definitely not, but a majority of the people on here don't realize the satire
+Tay Elgin Which is pretty amazing because he's laying it on pretty thick.
Ok here's all the ones I see:
-0:00 - 0:24 is from Fancy, which is a scene from Clueless
-0:25 is Ariana Grande impersonation
-0:30 "bring the beat back" is from Karmin/Katy Perry
-0:31 is 'your love is my drug' by Kesha
-0:35 is 'sexy back' by justin timberlake
-0:47 and the chorus is a scene from plenty of music videos, kind of looks like a boy band video at first
-1:30 is Black Eyed Peas, obviously, haha
-1:46 is Mumford And Sons, I thought it was Timber at first
-2:43 is Miley Cyrus, honestly from any video of hers
-2:44 is Blurred Lines
-3:51 sounds like Starships?
-3:53 is a Redfoo impression from LMFAO
-4:10 is a play off Jason Derulo when he always ends his songs with his name
I think that's all of them?
thank you
Mumford and Sons was RIGHT THERE
Only Marianas Trench can write a parody of pop songs that's so good that people think it's a pop song
What song was it?
It's mocking/making references all the other major pop songs and artists. If you watch they copy parts of music videos and what certain artists do in all their songs. "Pop 101"
***** K, LOLOL!
Last week when I saw them live, Josh was supposed to say his name at the end of the song, and instead he just burst out laughing
+Jazzipersun I went to their concert on Friday, at the end of the song he was laughing so hard and was like ''jason derulo'', so much shade lmfao it was hilarious
+Jazzipersun Hahaha you were at the Edmonton show!
+Source Calgary 😀
Haha that makes sense, someone told me they were having audio problems with the thing that is supposed to do the auto-tuned (Joshua Ramsay) so they probably couldn't fix it between shows.
+Jazzipersun I wish I could have gone! I live in Calgary!!!
_he(Josh) wrote “Pop 101” in order to comically explain the process of writing pop music_
Pop 101 - a catchy pop song about how to write a catchy pop song, a parody of a parody of a parody of itself.
Diana Harper parodyception
I could not agree more at least someone pays attention to the actual message behind this song
Thank u finally someone who understands the meaning and the point behind the song!! People are so d umb sometimes
they can be, But i if you cant understand or respect the artists then I guess your not a real fan, People claim they are fans of marianas trench but yet they pick and nag at the music they have created, Just because you like a few of their songs does not make you a fan, There's more to being a fan other then the music, and once people understand that they might chill out a bit. also i'm not saying everyone will like their music because they don't, we all have different tastes in music.
Mikaylah Bouchard Exactly, people seem to forget that the girls agreed to do this
The boots and cats part though haha
+Savannah Butler RIGHT
I really like this song. It's catchy, it's creative, and it's by a Canadian group.
Agreed
My mum is getting mad at me because it's really catchy and she doesn't want to admit it xD
Curtis Stokman *States an opinion followed by a fact and gets top comment* yeah so glad you contributed man
garrett robertson Idiot neckbeard troll (you) is jealous that he has less +1s than me.
Karlsburg they weren't formed in 2011...
Jess L
Oh! Right you are, I don't know how I thought that, as I went to look it up and it's 2002. And I'm pretty sure the signed picture I have from them is older than that, not sure what I was thinking when I posted that hahaa. Thanks!
Lol, it's fine.
Amount of shade thrown in this by josh
You can't throw the BOULDER of shade
+alexa paparelli I feel like he's the king of good-humoured shade, though. Ha ha, especially towards himself lol. It's why we love him :)
I've never laughed so much in my entire life. Thanks guys for having a sense of humour and never taking yourselves too seriously. :) LOVE!
Proof that not all Canadians say "aboot" or "eh"
Exactly. I'm on your side. I'm Canadian and I find that I almost never say "eh" or "aboot" it's not nice to think that we say that. Americans like us because when they go to airports they have Canadian tags so people treat them nicely. Respect.
***** so
It's mostly newfie that say That, The only time other people say "Eh" is at the end of a statement to turn it into a question.
TheMorbidHobo I say huh instead of eh
I've lived in Canada all my life an I don't think I've ever heard someone say "aboot" (unless they were joking around). I'm bad for saying "eh" though. Whenever I go down south people pick up where I'm from lol.
This song absolutely nails the stereotype of mainstream pop songs from over the past 5 years, I cant help but admire the genius of Marianas Trench. They are doing what they do best: having fun :)
Also, I know it's a satirical video, but it's so damn catchy!
They'll probably do what they always do with having serious and non serious songs mixed on the album
yeah I know this was just a parody
Hn...dont lynch me...but would actually like if they did an entire satirical album...:D
*****
Awesome is my middle name.
When I first heard this song, I couldn't help but thing "Damn, what happened to them?? They're not at all the same..." But after listening to it a few more times, and listening to the lyrics, I realise that they're still the same satirical, hilarious people as they were before.
This song kills me. I find that the people who really appreciate the satire are musicians who realize how accurate it is.
ya but the music is fucking terrible regardless of satire.
Yeah XDD Writing pop music is essentially exactly how they describe.
Very similar to Bo Burnham's Repeat Stuff
xD
People need to get a real understanding and purpose of the video before criticizing and bashing the band.
the lyrics to this song are just pure gold
I love this video simply because it's like a giant middle finger to every other pop music video
thank you i wish more people got that joke lol
Exactly! This is just Marianas Trench doing what they do best: Being sarcastic and jokingly poking fun at everything that can be made fun of! Josh in particular is great at this :)
Kasaki Kihoya you're awesome love the comment
Kasaki Kihoya PRAISE THE COMMENT
Pelcachay Jaime Jefferies Haha thanks :)
Just tellin' it like it is!
Haters gonna hate hate hate XD
supermattural You go tell 'em xD
supermattural and ain'ters gonna ain't
satire might be to big a word for some of these commenters.
What he said lmao
"Darling, I break hearts not laws..." haha what a great concert!
This needs to be a thing. I think I have an unhealthy addiction to MT music
+Gage Laslo join the club.
right??!
+Gage Laslo They play it at kohl's all the time it got stuck in my head when I was at work hah
yes
I know we all need to be checked
I love this song so much, it cracks me up. And it sounds pretty good in its satire haha
imagine someone who's not fluent in English hearing this and thinking it's just a regular shitty pop song
I was one of those people
That’s what I thought when I was kid
@@soup4720 I’m not sure this is appropriate for kids 😅
@@club6525 in What way is this song not appropriate for kids
@@soup4720 Watch the video
This song came out too early, if it came out today it would chart top 50....its still a banger to this day
i surprisingly loved this song and video!! some people are going waaay too crazy about it thinking they are being serious with this song.. like which i cant really even understand because it's clearly mocking pop music today *makes little gun with hand and imaginary shoots self* if you have ever heard any of their albums you know they always have a couple upbeat complete fuckery fun songs to make us lol.. and then completely serious songs that make us go "ouch, my feelings that i didnt even know i had". lighten up, im sure the rest of the album is amaaazing and i for one cannot wait to hear it!!
Also, this isn't the first time MT has done something to take shots at other artists and music videos, so this isn't anything new.
so many references to no.1 pop songs, i just, i'm in awe
Is it higher, desire and fire? Or, hire, desire and fire?
Higher, desire and fire. It's in the chorus of fire by Augustana
That changes the meaning too much!
+fleek dotcom They're also words in the chorus of the Florida Georgia line song Sippin' on Fire
***** Safe to assume he was referencing them then. Makes much more sense, better FGL than Augustana.
I will ALWAYS love and appreciate this song. It's the first Marianas Trench song I ever heard. My older brother's girlfriend showed me this song cuz she thought that I'd like it. I did, obviously. They are an AMAZING group, and this song is hilarious.
Anyone notice how it's 4:20 seconds long, too? some coincidence
woaahh
+AndPatrickWasLikeTHATSGOOOOOOD what do u mean by that?
wow ... MT SO AWESOME!
They were blazing it the whole time
lmao had to go back up to the song and check xD LOL
2:07 Dil is that you?
Misanthropic OH GOD
Misanthropic nice lol
whats up
Josh just looks so done with himself at the end.
Don't lose faith over a song that's intended as satire.
thank yoooooou
PREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEECH :D!
First off: lol. I laughed so hard at this, I fell out of my chair, with armrests.
Second: The parodies in here, I get his point of view.
Finally: It looks like he had fun shooting this video, what with all the people and stuff. It also must have been fun to shoot the parody scenes, i.e Blurred Lines, the Miley Cyrus one, and the other random club one.
criminally underrated. this is a banger. i just...................cant not love this shit. every lyric is just spot on.
I really want to go to his music class. It would be so lit.
Guns N' Roses 4 Ever 9
For anyone who thinks the whole album is going to be like this, remember when josh posted a clip of a song and the lyrics were
"I've been deep in this sleeplessness I don't know why
Just can't get it away from myself
When I get back on my feet, I'll blow this open wide
And carry me home in good health"
So clearly that would be a more serious, not 'poppy' song, and I'm assuming that the album will be like how ever after and masterpiece theatre were.
Really appreciate it, thank you!
i loved the mumford and sons bit... i mean his vocals with the music oh my god it really worked.
this is probably the most disliked video of theirs but that is so stupid i for one found this hilarious
people keep saying they lost all respect for them but im questioning if they really ever were real fans
if they were they would wait for the next video to see if it is anythting like this one
I feel like in this video, he's not so much trying to go into pop but making fun of it. The song is saying how predictable pop is by giving random lines that you can pretty much here in just about every other pop song.
*****
i know but im saying that is what a true fan would do if they thought that
This is my favorite one by them. I don't get how people an hate it
mine too. people are just oversensitive about stuff. :/ if they can't handle his work they need to just go listen to something else
Omg read the likes and dislikes are you blind
This continues to be one of my favourite MT videos, because the SATIRE and HUMOUR displayed is just SPOT ON!! hahaha really taking the piss out of today's mainstream artists, and nailing it.
Anyone saying they "Lost respect for MT because of this" needs to wise up and realise this whole video is both a complete joke, and a dig in the ribs at toy's pathetic mainstream media.
Okay, two words about this song/vid: musical genius
Omg your back !!! I like this song !!! Omg I'm so happy !! Just wait for the next album :D
´´Hello! I’m Angie and I know is a lot to ask but could please check out my cover on my channel? My dream is to become a singer please help me to come true my dream, I’ll be Grateful´´
When you get known angie. I'm gonna show this to people of how you got known
framingan it would be a great idea for me, how a person followed her dream.
And if you reached your dream, what then? You're going to encourage people to promote themselves on such places as youtube?
I'm not annoyed i've just seen so many people promote themselves and in the future will end up saying how they achieved what they wanted by something else rather than... this.
framingan but youtube is a good place to start, but I sing in other places. I sing in a choir.
This song has one one thing other pops songs don't have: a talented singer
lmao xD This guys a genius and he has such a nice voice!
***** yes that auto tuned voice very nice.
David Murphy you know he was making fun of auto tune and thats why he was using it..
I know, still used it though. you just confirmed what I said
+David Murphy < Dumbass
RariKari
no are you ?
Canadians represent :)
That laugh at the end too - love :P
This here is pure genius.
i love mariana's trench so much

+Ashley Marie Me too!
+Ashley Marie we all do

This was mind blowing!!! It takes rare talent to write up a recipe for a pop song while alluding to other artists and still making it sounds like a pop song! Amazing!! ❤️
I bet this video was fun as hell to film
goldburg444 I bet all the videos are
Top 40 people are so stupid, they play this song on their radio stations without realizing that it's completely making fun of the music they like!
Yeah lol I was listening to it on the radio like no one lissens to the lyrics anymore
griffin sluman It's just about the boots and cats these days and the anacondas
You do realize that they don't pick the music. They get told what to play. That's it.
Cody Smith it has to be popular for them to play it
someone had to listen to it and say "yeah, this will be a hit"
When you've been a fan since the beginning, and then this. He just gets better and better and then even more better. He can do it all. Everything. Josh and his team never cease to blow me away. True geniuses. I freaking love Josh Ramsay.
Joshua Ramsay... yet another glorious man I would love to meet.
I met him once, he's super sweet
wowitzrachelolz Nice. Me is jelly.
I met him like 2 days ago and let me tell you he is SO. FREAKING. FUNNY.
And people wonder why I'm such a sarcastic little shit.

ALL HALE THE GLOW CLOUD

You have no idea how many times I refreshed the YT Hompage for this.
Probably one of the most humorous songs I've ever listened to. I love this band.
This is so badass, the fact that they have balls to at least parody and expose how ridiculous music is nowadays. I love MARIANAS TRENCH!!' They just don't stop making me love them more
thank you for having logic
EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS IS PERFECT
after astoria, i want an album of them just parodying the music industry
josh giving away the recipe for free, secret spices and all 🤣
My only complaint is that the rap shouldve been longer cuz it would've made for some great jokes
i think the shortness was part of the joke
Best cultural parody I've ever listened to. Wow.
They’re so much fun live. I’ve seen them 3 times and they’re not only genuinely talented, but they have fun and don’t take themselves overly seriously. I appreciate that. And they’re from Canada, and being Canadian I love that too 🇨🇦
the ending is so cute, I love his laugh💓💓💓
Wow wasn't expecting the video to look like this!
Josh sacrificed his only chance at becoming popular in the US to make his fans happy :(
Josh is too good too pure for this world.
I love all marianas trench saw and met them couple months ago I love how they make fun in this vid and still got a catchy song here not there best by far but u got to admire this song for what it is
Yay! Josh's dog, Benny, is in the video!!
***** 2:23
***** isn't it a he?
I always thought it was a boy :o the name "bennie and the jets" is a little misleading lol
Actually, that one is not Josh's dog, it's one of the Tech Guys.
***** when did she (Emma Montrose) say it was Josh's dog? Look I only commented this because it looked like Josh's dog so I thought it was, plus how they were acting together, I didn't comment to get an argument going.
I saw them in concert last night! They are such good singers, and josh could really hit the greatist high notes!!💖💖
Yes finally someone made a song about how shitty pop music is and how its exact same music over and over this is beautiful i might cry.
As a Christian, I point and laugh at the Christian girls who cross themselves in disgust during this video at 2:15-2:16.
ShippingTrash4Life as some who doesnt give a fuck. i dont give a fuck
this band is really talented for this day and age. Ha
This song is basically every song that was realised after 2010's in a nut shell xDD Love This Parody.
Love it!
Ohmygod I love your videos! I didn't know you were a fan of Marianas Trench either ^-^
This song is so fucking clever and shows how much talent and how creative these guys were
At least these guys have respect for women; they hired an all-women cast to film the topless girls, and greenscreened it. I admire them so much.
Agreed! Haha
I think the outrage came from the fact that it was a flat-out rape anthem.
its finally on youtube! im sure the american trenchers will be very happy :)
and Uk Trenchers!
The American Trenchers are very happy ;) I loved this song and music video!!
Canadian Trenchers are just as happy c:
Silenced Angel yeah its nice that its officially out there
I am an indifferent American trencher. Idk just not that big a fan of this video.
If my school was like that I'd never leave omfg
+Grace Howlter Did you comment every single song of Marianas Trench?
tobsda08 Probably.
He would be the best teacher :)
yas same i would stay there forever
Same
0:26 3D glasses with the lenses popped out
"Dumb down, they won't ignore us". SO FUCKING TRUE! Apparently people can't listen to songs nowadays because all the major hits repeat the same fucking line 100 times.
Brain loves repetition💙💙
Do you know how happy I am that MT is becoming more famous now?! Been listening since I was like 5 or 6, and always knew they deserved more fans. #Pomegranateliveson
Only down part is that we now have to explain to new fans that their jokes are old and used..and they need to sTOP. 😂😂
POMEGRANATE
pomegranateliveson i cant
I don't understand why some people are getting mad and not realizing that this whole song is literally a joke
How is this 9 years old when I just heard it on the radio for the first time a couple of weeks ago?
Scary thing is, take out all the irony and its still a damn good song.
3:10 not them making fun of blurred lines by Robin Thicke💀😭
Even though they make pop music themselves, this is still a masterpiece imo. What a hilarious and accurate portrayal of the mainstream
