    Wow...I'm completely amaze!d I'm one of the thousands youtube audio tutorials creators, even when my channel it's spanish based, I'm also a professisonal audio mixer, and now I'm watching your videos like I didn't know anything! My point is, you don't even need to do this, you are Han's number one, I don't really know how many films / games you have record to this point in life, and maybe you are rich enough to don't even need to make youtube tutorials. But here you are, teaching basics, as a completely pro. You are amazing! Love ya!

    This is a great tutorial for me to watch because I am looking to set up a studio for podcasts on consciousness. My background is in engineering and cognitive neuroscience. I have noted for several years that I am drawn to musicians as they are drawn to me. What can I say? I work from my heart as do musicians. My expression comes through my writing. I have studied music theory to better understand how my mind works.
    I love to watch you play. I find you deeply expressive emotionally and fierce at the same time. I look forward to the day when I can come see you play in a live show. Please stay safe. We are doing the best we can in Northern California.

      @@tinaguo I hope that you on your free time do a tutorial about technology required to do outdoor gigs. You see I'm a member of Gig Salad and sometimes I'm expected to play without a hired accompanist. Do you have any suggestions? Most of the time it is usually violinist that play with accompaniment tracks but their instrument is small so they don't have to carry a lot of equipment. We cellists have a lot of baggage!

    Nice video Tina. I'd love to see a continuation of this theme so that as people become comfortable with this video, they have additional videos they can watch based on what they're likely to run into next (e.g., live instrument recording vs. midi controller recording, etc.). One thing I would advise though is many headphones artificially boost bass levels so using them for eq/mixing can be misleading. The Rokit monitors you have are good in these scenarios because they give a more neutral, truthful audio output experience allowing for an unbiased mixing process. I'm sure your ear is 100x better than your average home studio user, so this may be more applicable for us common folk than a professional musician who's been in the business for a long time.

    Very interesting and a informative basic tutorial. One thing you might want to consider is sound dampening the studio for the neighbors. The recording process and working out a piece of music for a musician in the zone may not be appreciated by someone on the other side of the wall. Even small instruments and vocals seem to make there themselves heard. Nashville home studios where under assault partially for this reason. Zoning changes will probably come back on the table after this covid-19 thing ends and it's back to business as usual.

    • @tinaguo
      @tinaguo  4 роки тому

      Yes if you're in a building or close by neighbors, (I'm not)- that for sure will be important to do! Again, these things are common sense and my focus is on how to put together a recording setup. I've been doing this for over a decade and sharing my own experiences. Stay safe and thanks for watching!

    Not so bad when you speak into your computer, but my initial thought during the opening was "please do some acoustic treatment to your room" - holy hell! :D Like when you clapped, I measured the reverberation to 3.6 - not great, not terrible. Sorry, couldn't resist :) Seriously though, I'm not a musician (anymore at least) or recording engineer, but that was quite a lot in the start.
    In these pressing times when many are confined to their homes (I've likely lost my job), including musicians, somebody should arrange some kind of Internet Aid Collab sessions. Doesn't have to be Band Aid kind of deal. Could be very funny, but with a really serious overtone. Any money or donations made from it could be used to support manufacturing of the kind of protective gear medical workers need. Or just flowers to the grocery store workers who can't protect themselves but has to go to work. Maybe Tina can air it on more appropriate channels?

    • @tinaguo
      @tinaguo  4 роки тому

      Thanks for watching! Please keep in mind that when I'm talking, I'm not talking into the reflexion filter that the mic is mounted on, and what I record into. I highly recommend the sE Electronics Reflexion Filter which really deadens the sound- I've been doing remote recording sessions daily with no complaints. Internet Aid sounds lovely- you should make your own tutorial on suggestions for musicians and others who don't need to make money for themselves after losing all their work to be helpful at this time- for me, every colleague has lost 90-100% of their work and are focused on how to sustain themselves first. Have a nice day!

      @@tinaguo Thanks for reply, I know you're busy so I didn't expect it. Although not collab stuff, apparently several musicians has already started throwing online "concerts". One such is Lindsay Sterling, you may have heard of her :)

    Excellent stuff, thanks, and timely. Thanks also for the assumption, I know absolutely nothing about recording at present but in18 months I plan on going for it. One question: is there a program out there that will print out guitar tab rather than sheet music?

    • @tinaguo
      @tinaguo  4 роки тому +1

      Hi John! There may be something but I don't read tab... I always have great luck googling and can find even the most random things online! x

    • @johnclark1146
      @johnclark1146 4 роки тому

      Thanks, Tina online & guitar center will be my next option. Last time I worked with sheet music was in 8th grade (clarinet in band - I was horribly not interested at the time) & was hoping to not get into theory that far. But it seems that if sheer music can be produced from a recording then tab would be possible - chords might be a problem but it’s time for an investigation. Thanks again for your time and honestly.
