Spot on review! Smiles per miles is a big factor for my grandson. He's now run many packs through it and all he's done is crack the front corner of the body. Considering that he's only two and and this is his first RC, I'd say that's a major plus in the toughness category!
That is actually a very sexy tiny truck. They did a great job of making a maxed out points class 2 truck out of the box. Can't wait to see how you adjust it.
The dip switches on the radio are a really cool detail that somehow no other review I've seen has covered. Great job! Very cool being able to change drag brake remotely on a cheap RTR system.
It's way cool, yeah! I'm liking this combo a lot. Cherry on the cake is that it's waterproof. I wrote about it more in the article but it's a super impressive little system.
I've seen both videos now and this definitely isn't a crawler but it saving grace is it's appearance. It looks good and is fairly inexpensive anywhere not named Australia so I could see it being a decent trail truck. I appreciate the two looks at this truck. Take care!
Thanks Chris, glad you enjoyed it. The car is growing on me and once I get a few things sorted on it, I reckon we'll have an attractive little fun machine!
Nice! They're a great little package overall, I must agree. I wasn't sure at first, but mine has grown on me. Brilliant lighting system, too. And surprisingly good tires!
This would be great for my daughter, she’s only 5yrs but already she understands drag breaks, trims and dual rates she completely mastered her MN D90 1/12 scale telling me she wants it to be upgraded 😂. I have the trx4 and the Absima sherpa but the radios are just too big for her little hands.
Soooo could you take another look at this truck. It’s a decent trailer, I’m not gonna say it’s a rock crawler, but what items would you do to upgrade its capabilities? It shares parts with the ECX Temper Gen 2 which is a kissing cousin to the MRC, way back when people used to swap the MRC front pinion gear with a Traxxas unit for a small amount of overdrive I’m thinking that might work on these guys, mines the FTX Treka variant. Trick part is the Traxxas has a 4mm output vs the 5mm output on these things. Any thoughts on how to get around that? I’m also curious if we can swap transmissions the FTX fury 2.0 (not sure what the RGT version is but it’s the one with the angry Jeep front) that unit does have an addition to the gearbox that makes the driveshafts counter rotate. I can’t get specs on if the chassis rails are the same width apart so I’m not sure if the swap can be done but it would be neat. These mods would fall under smiles per mile and making what you have the best it can be category since it would probably be cheaper to just get the pioneer. But it’s all about driving what you like.
Thanks for your thoughts on this. It is a great trail truck, no argument from me on that. I'd like to lower its gearing a bit, maybe fit a punchy brushless system to it if I was going all out on this one rig. Then a bit more weight under it to get the cog down a bit. Stronger steering would then follow. Then I guess I'd look at better tires on the same, pretty wheels. These aren't too bad, though. If getting new tires, I'd not be getting much bigger ones than the stock size either. It suits the car. Lastly, for quality of life to enjoy it a bit more, I'd put 100mm or 150mm extensions on the light cables and neatly route those along the body. No more plugging and unplugging whenever you do a battery change. And that would probably do it, honestly. If I could only make one change, it might be a motor plate adapter and a 45t or 55t motor on same gearing. Slow it down a bit and improve battery life at the same time :) Cheers
Have you had the Carisma Sca1ce truck yet. I have one. Bloody performs well. Mine is stock without foams. Runs fine on 3s. Got through heaps of packs and nothing broken. Really good and cheap compared to others. Reliable. Check out Carisma
Literally stock. Nothing changed. Stock esc. Everything. I have sunk it under water. Drove through heaps of mud. I must do a video myself for it as I was very very surprised
Thread lock releases with heat. A hot air gun on the screw for 10 or 15 seconds should do the trick. Be careful if you use a naked flame (not recommended) - you don't want to melt any plastics! But my guess is thread lock is what's stopping you. If you've cross threaded it when last installing the pin, that's a different issue, but I'm thinking that's unlikely. Thread lock is number one culprit. Good luck!
@@RCTNT I tired that with a soldering iron since I thought the pin pointed head would transfer the heat but maybe I didn’t leave it on long enough. It’s plastic so I don’t want to melt it either so maybe the soldering iron might be better than the heat gun. Either way, thank you brotha I very much appreciate your response and your video is good too! Have a good day, everyday!
@@michaelramirez4864 there's a steel inner collar into which the pin is screwed. The plastic outer is just cosmetic. Sorry you're struggling with it, I'm not sure what else to advise except to try a little more heat and to ensure you have exactly the right size driver so there's no slip. Good luck with it.
I think we can get a bit more out of it yet. I'll cover that soon. The Tracer is on my to do list, yep. It's a long list, but we're getting through it! Cheers
I don't have it coming yet but it's on my list of strong potentials. I don't know exactly when it'll be released, but I'm trying to get hold of the EX86100 Pro V2 kit as one of the next RGTs I look at. We'll see!
I'm trying to work out, if this is the same as the FTX Paso, in the UK? What's the wheelbase of the RGT? I've just picked up 2 RTR Paso's, minus the bodies, for a silly low price, and have been looking at options for bodies. Either spend £100 for a stock FTX body and accessories, see is the RGT body is the same, or lengthen the chassis and open up the choice? 🤔👍🏻
I understand they're the same as the Outback Peso 3, yes. I've got more detail on my write up here: rc-tnt.com/rc-crawler-reviews/rgt-136100v3-rock-cruiser-rc-4-v3/ Doesn't help exactly with body swaps but the manufacturer links for both RGT and FTX versions of this rig are at the end of the article. Have a closer look - I'd think the bodies would be compatible and maybe you can eyeball it.
@@bradyhuggonson3784 g'day Brady, I'd be looking at the weaknesses in my driving - what held it back that I can address, etc. Depends on where and how you drive it but more aggressive or bigger tires could help, as could heavier wheels. Electronics could benefit as far as a better servo, if you find the stock one insufficient. The problem with replacing the ESC/radio is you lose the lovely light control it comes with. A higher-turn brushed motor could give you better control without needing to replace the whole system, though. Change one or two things, test, modify, etc. Happy tinkering :)
Did yours burn out on 3S lipo? Or possibly in wet use? Or some other way? Love to know more, if you don't mind sharing the details. Thanks Jack! It's an interesting little bit of kit, the HW-711. I'd be keen to hear about any failures or other issues people may have had. Thanks!
You're absolutely fine to do that, yep. It'll take a 2S LiPO without an issue :) Just be aware of low voltage cut-off - don't want to over-discharge the battery when it's in the car. Slide DIP Switch #2 to the left on the radio to tell the system you're using LiPO instead of NiMH. For more info, look in your manual that came with the car under '4. Setting Method'. I have a photo of the manual in my write-up for this car, here: rc-tnt.com/manufacturer/rgt/rgt-136100v3-rock-cruiser-rc-4-v3/

Hi Brennan, the hobbywing hw-711 all in one esc will probably have a limit of 8.4v, but I can't find any doco to support this. I'd stick to 2s to be safe. Really depends on how and where you drive it but 25 to 40 minutes should be reasonable to expect. Much more if doing lots of slow driving and much less if heavy on the throttle.
Heh, no, it's more a light-and-dark kinda video. It's unique footage in both - I found I was having a lot of very good and rather disappointing experiences with this thing, so the initial edit of my single video review was a bit of a rollercoaster! I decided to take the best parts and put them in one perspective and put the worst parts in the other video, then link to them at the end of each other. Bit of an experiment but hopefully it delivers a balanced look at this interesting little machine! Cheers :)
That’s what I have v3 $99 on eBay haha. Biggest upgrade you can do is changing plug position on esc to take lipo battery and widen the battery tray and slap on 5000 mah lipo 2S and with added front weight and power, it’s crawling heaven long time!
3645 x 1645mm is the 1:1 Jimny. A 1/8 size would need to be 455 x 206mm. That is about what is dimensions are, having just measured it. So it's technically 1/8, even though it would fit in with 1/12 and smaller 1/10 rigs on the trail!
Heh you watched my positive video on this. I released a negative video about it too, at the same time. I mention and link to it at the end of this one. I dunno if I'd go as far as calling it garbage, there are definitely some redeeming elements to it, as outlined in this video. But yes, I can't say I've used it much since filming these two videos!
This is what I like about your review... Very convincing and honest. Keep it up
