ITS "THE BAND" YOU FUCKERS!! I LOVE IT, PEOPLE STILL CLAPPED AT THE END! ITS LIVE, ITS RAW AND NOT ALL PERFECT AND "TUNED" LIKE MOST OF TODAYS MUSIC...
Oh man, is this sad - a lot of recordings of the 76 tour are now out there and show clearly how far gone richard was. And to flub his finest tune on their last show is beyond belief. The look that rick and robbie give each other when he forgets his lines is absolutely heartbreaking.
Yeah, I didn't know a recording / video of this existed. Very, very sad. His voice is struggling really bad, too. At least Richard did a good version of "The Shape I'm In" for The Last Waltz... But, yeah, what a bummer
there are (up on 'toob) audio only posts of that same tour; no video.. I'll try to find the one I'd heard (pre damn comp crash earlier) and put the link up for you. it's a great one.
I believe that right there on that song was the real reason Robbie had enough of his time with The Band ! It was leading up to this point for ages and ages as because of certain members and their 'activities ' it was impossible for the group to perform to it's absolute best and to fulfill its unique way of playing with every member contributing 100% or it becomes garbage .Of course there were many other factors included but that for me was the main one . Still they kept their very best for last ...for the most part !
Richard was terribly out of it on this song. I now understand why it didn't make the cut. Too bad; my all time favorite band song, but he forgot two full lines and Robbie and Rick nearly shut it down mid-song.
Dude, please don't EVER say that about Robbie! Just because he quit, doesn't mean you gotta talk shit about him. He's still a genius! Also it's his 70th B-day today! So show some respect.
According to Levon's book Richard was so drunk here he doesn't remember much of anything. The Band dissolved because Robertson decided he was done. He didnt want to tour anymore. He took the lead in dissolving The Band. Levon never wanted to stop. Richard was too fucked up.. RIck wanted to do his own thing and Garth really never had a voice
There’s a bit of songs from the concert that didn’t make the final movie cut. The Weight is another one - instead of putting the concert version in, they re-recorded in the sound stage with the Staples
Look at the track listing for the audio CD of the last waltz, and elsewhere, to see what else is not in the film. It was a much longer concert than is portrayed by the film, which is excellent nonetheless.
They quit playing together because they were sick of each other, playing since they were young kids together, That was emphasized over and over again in The Last Waltz... Meantime, they made Americana music together, for decades. Try not to over analyze it. Enjoy it for what it was. And is.
This was obviously before they had a chance to get it into the studio and overdub some vocals on it.Wow...they still groove but Richard...Great voice but he seems out of it.
This all looks like the Winterland concert to me, although this clip isn't in the film, for obvious reasons. There is alternative footage on the Ethan Davis channel, which also has way better sound and video, btw.
Well, there’s “have a drink or two and keep it together” party, and there’s a “I’m so gone that I forget lyrics” party. Richard was obviously at the second one.
this was hard to listen to, but you can still hear the raw power of his voice
Richard clearly struggling here. Somehow reminds of a great wounded bear.

And a big reason Robertson wanted to shut it down.

That is so sad, but it's also a great document.
What an amazing, timeless song and band. THE BAND WILL LIVE ON FOREVER THROUGH MUSIC.
this shows how far Richard had fallen. I feel that one of the reasons Robbie quit was because of Richards addiction
Richard was terribly out of it on this song. I now understand why it didn't make the cut. Too bad; my all time favorite band song, but he forgot two full lines and Robbie and Rick nearly shut it down mid-song.
His microphone actually cut out halfway through.
@@elijahpicaro9581 - or did theu pull him down in the mix??
Danko is laying it down

Lots if the concert had to be cut because of time constraints. Dylan isn't shown getting in stage because his first song is edited out.
Garth mashed it up
Wait a minute! I have the Last waltz on DVD and Blue ray and King harvest is not on it!!
A'm I missing something??

You see why it wasn’t included ?
Man yea Rich was not in best shape but still is damn good... man thats rock n roll at best. Forgetting lines etc who cares imo
its not in the movie
Richard was drunk for most of the last waltz

Agreed! Robbie has had a brilliant solo career.

Richard was terribly out of it on this song. I ca
Excuse me Everyone, but this is NOT from "The Last Waltz". As my man Chris Berman would say, "C`mon man"
This all looks like the Winterland concert to me, although this clip isn't in the film, for obvious reasons. There is alternative footage on the Ethan Davis channel, which also has way better sound and video, btw.
sure looks like last waltz to me
it is from the concert.
It’s the Bill Graham house film. But DEFINITELY The Last Waltz.
Pretty bad for the band! I didn't think they were capable of that
it was a party, farewell , have a good time sort of gig

Richard was obviously at the second one.
