I was a small child in the time frame you are discussing here, but I do remember him hosting "Concentration" as well as "The Joker's Wild." My mother was an avid game show watcher and if I wasn't in school, we spent a lot of time together watching game shows and trying to guess the answers.

Quiz Shows in their heyday was full with scandals. These are great details about Jack Barry and the fixes in quiz shows.

There is a former MTV VJ named Mark Goodman, but he never produced game shows. Mark GOODSON did.

I still remember the Joker's Wild when I Was a kid. I also researched the scandals back in the 50's and 60's that tarnished the hosts reputaions up until thier deaths

You have several facts wrong. Barry & Enright's shows was sold to NBC before the rigging blew up. Tic Tac was canceled in 59, after their shows were already owned by NBC. Barry was on primetime Concentration for 4 weeks, not 4 months. That show was a replacement for the just canceled "Twenty-One", and NBC owed 4 weeks to the sponsor. Barry worked with Mark GOODSON (not Goodman). You skipped over Barry moving to LA and worked on local game shows and a talk show for KTLA, and his buying a radio station in California to help get his reputation back. Joker was brought back into syndication by both Barry and Enright in 77, not just by Enright.

I was thinking this myself, no interest in facts at all.

Jack Barry is, without question, one of the best game show hosts in the history of television. It wasn't necessary for him to pull the stunts he pulled. He was so good at connecting with audiences and contestants. I respect his enormous talent, but I'd respect him more if he didn't have serious ethical problems.

Where knowledge is king and Lady Luck is queen! It's the Joker's Wild! I was born in the 1970s and watched The Joker's Wild when I was very young until Jack Barry died. Of course, I only learned of the scandals associated with Barry and Enright years later.

I was aware of this. They even had an episode of "Happy Days" that replayed this type of thing out. I didn't know it was Jack Barry behind it. This was interesting to learn.

Merv Griffin and his wife were flying from New York to Deluth in the early 1960s and were discussing the fact that there weren’t any successful tv quiz shows since the scandals where the gave the answers, his wife said “let’s give them the answers and they have to come up with the questions”. Merv sold the idea to NBC who bought Jeopardy without a pilot. The show got its name because a sponsor said “it didn’t have enough Jeopardies”

Also, to this day, I am absolutely shocked that Barry/Enright was allowed to produce the Tic Tac Dough reboot in the 80s.

Another version of Tic-Tac-Dough came back in 1978! Not sure if it was exactly like the 1950s version because I never saw the original!

See my other post Wink Martindale was host. I believe he was related to another game show
host. Maybe Tom Kennedy or Jack Narz. I just cannot remember. Maybe someone will text the answer. Thank you.

I remember watching "The Jokers Wild" many times and enjoyed it. I wasn't aware of Barry's sordid past at the time. I preferred shows that weren't based on luck such as the syndicated "Press Your Luck" although someone mastered the lighting sequence and broke the show's jackpot so I guess it wasn't entirely luck.

Even if jack Barry was involved he brought the joker’s wild on tv and it’s still one of my favorite game shows and tic tac dough was the only game show from the 50s scandal that came back a syndicated success.

I loved Tic Tac Dough. Wink Martindale was the Best. My favorite series was when Thom McKee (and his beautiful wife Jenny) were on and Jenny would run up to the stage and be his good luck charm. They were such a cute couple and I think they were newlyweds. They seemed to be very down to earth, personable, and were a joy to watch and I remember watching the final show. I believe the total amassed was $312,700., several cars, vacations and most likely much more.People magazine or one something like that. I wish I still could find it somewhere in my house packed away. He was such a nice man who always shook hands when his opponents were introduced and also always good luck. When they lost, he was again very personable. I pray they are still enjoying good health and happiness and raising good children. With parents like Jenny and Thom, we can pretty much count on it. I will have to see if there is any contact info available and I can send a card saying I REMEMBER WHEN ..... yes I am of the senior citizen group. I could not wait until the show aired. What a pleasant memory. Sorry my text was so long. Stay healthy and safe in this crazy world. GOD'S BLESSINGS.🙏🤗👍 MY MESSAGE IS COMING FROM UPSTATE NY ( ABOUT 30 MINUTES FROM COOPERSTOWN AND THE BASEBALL HALL ⚾️F FAME). BEAUTIFUL AREA DURING AUTUMN, A COUPLE OF HOURS FROM VERMONT 🙂.

🤫🤔 Game shows on television 📺 have always been suspect, both then and now. The only difference being the prizes are now much larger......

Didn’t know about the scandals and the US Government investigation of the reported scandals. People weren’t ready for the responsibility of being a contestant back then. He was a pioneer, legend who was creative with creating game shows was the scandals was a black mark on him moving forward but never gave up on being part of hosting a game show. RIH Mr. Barry, condolences to his family and friends. Shows are different now than back then due to social media, FCC, business practices, creditability, people are more aware of questions of historical information, etc.. Jeopardy, WOF, PIR, just a different time in history of the introduction of game shows. Pretty interesting video, Thanks!
