These are the PFI videos I love and miss. Just a bunch of family hanging out in the shop wrenching, solving problems. While they pointed out the flaws, not once did they totally slam the prior mechanics, but rather provide constructive feedback and commend them for the 'creativity'.

Hey Brent, I met you at Bristol I was the guy covered in tattoos including my face and head, I’m a tattoo artist so that makes it ok. but anyway I came to Bristol specifically to meet you and Steve Morris I remember when Kyle put you on his video first time I’ve ever seen you. I feel like Brent is like the only mechanic that sees the bright side of all jobs and don't just say I'm not working on that. Shows people the real stuff and always figures it out
Blows my mind someone would do this given how easy it is to track down a factory service manual. And those manuals are like a pictorial bible because of how thorough they are.
Even I know not to do that and I'm not even a mechanic. As shane said, "use your resources and Google it". That's why i watch PFI. Can't wait for the next video.
It is scientifically impossible that that could even work no matter how it was done. The pressure is.going to find its way through the paper. Im sure i could do it to last a few trips for grandma to the grocery store. But it would never last a single rip. But it isnt coming back apart. So would make a boat anchor to last 25 miles. If it even lasted more than one heat and cooling cycle
I brought a s/h engine for my ford falcon and ended up boosting it. It dynoed 320rwhp 540nm on 9psi then saw up to 12psi on the street. When i uograded to a mls and head studs i found the oem head gasket with silicon.. never once had a issue god knows how it lasted 😂
In the thirty two years of my automotive career as an ASE certified technician never once have I ever seen that kind of work done nor have I ever even come close to considering doing anything remotely close like that. Feel like this was done with intent. She sounds like she trusted the person she bought this from and that person took advantage of that. Probably over heating already and they thought they could get away with a quick fix while making it look legit by putting the only head gasket they had in there. The rtv was just to last the test drive. I thought it was weird when they took the valve cover off and the cylinder head look super clean with no oil.
I bought a Subaru with the same issue. I couldn't tell anyone had the heads off until I got down to the gaskets and saw red silicone. It worked for about 6 months before failing. Had I known it was that bad, I would have done headgaskets immediately after buying it.
You can tell that brent not only enjoys doing what he does but its just good damn fun to him.. im the same way i have the most fun tinkering on any make and model..
On the next episode of Silicone Wars….lol. Brent been watching you since you were in the other shop years ago. Love the content! Stay the same never change! This video is hilarious!
I've seen A LOT of stupid things in my 30+ years as a mechanic. But I've NEVER seen anything like that!! I mean I've seen drain plugs RTV'ed into oil pans, drain plugs J B Welded into oil and transmission pans, blocks of wood used as mounts and spacers, paint used as sealant, and even plastic milk crates and lumber used as a bumper. But nothing like that head "gasket"!!! WOW WTF!!! 😳🤯
I think the paper sealed better than the RTV... I think the theory was that the paper compresses to take up any imperfections, the RTV glues and seals it to the head gasket, and the RTV on top uhhh, well it sticks that head on real good so it doesn't lift. Art!
Like 4 guys massaging the epoxy into the head and the block at the sametime one starting on each end rubbing a very thin layer of the epoxy into every pore by finger tip. Then quickly slapping it together and get it torqued down immediately and let it set for min 24 hours
I was working on a customers 1957 Thunderbird with a 312 Y block. Some dolt had done the same thing with strangely enough the same orange RTV on Fel Pro Permatorque gaskets which clearly state on the package USE NO SEALER. The engine was leaking coolant between the block and heads. I had the heads resurfaced, drilled both the block and heads with the additional holes prescribed in a 1960 Ford TSB (they werent called technical service bulletins back then) using a modern head gasket for a template. I saw a 272 in another customers 55 Crown Victoria with the same issue. Apparently , the same dolt rebuilt both, the scary part is that the particular dolt was reported to be an instructor at a tech school in this area.
you guys should do a full rebuild for this poor girl. I had a ford 5.4 come in for exhaust manifold replavcement. When I removed the manifold it has 8 studs which hold it to the head. 5 were broken off in head and a whole tube of ultra gray silly cone.
It's funny as I just used the same high temp RTV to pass emissions for a downpipe flange that was super bent. Stuff works if you do it right. Don't think I'd use it on a head gasket tho 🤣
I once repaired a motorcycle from a guy that in the end off'd himself with another method instead of the 80mph motorcycle he desparately tried to liquid metal the cylinder head onto the jug.

Full teardown and deep clean. That block is guaranteed to have little bits of silicone all over the internal passages for water and oil.

the extra height alone probably dropped the compression. hahaha
I bet the heads warped and they tried replacing the gasket once before and it didnt seal so they doubled up gaskets and rtv and wished upon a star
