Ensign Sito was an interesting reference to the original Lower Decks ep of TNG that inspired this whole show's concept.. but what is starting to bug me is how every interesting thing that happened on TNG or DS9 somehow Mariner was apart of or knew people directly from it
as I said before they should have just said she grew up on the Enterprise and that's how she knows everyone and everything that happened , if she was one of the kids on the ship . it might explain why she's so messed up from all the trauma of what that ship went through
Also, how old is Mariner supposed to be? How could she possibly have been in the Academy at the same time as Locarno/Sito? Locarno has grey temples, for Crissakes!
Using your reviews as allegories to subtly express your opinion on current events in order to slip past the censors. How very Gene Roddenberry of you. Bravo 👏
Here's another star wars reference that can be extrapolated of from this episode; the mean, cool looking bounty hunter is actually a nerdy looking guy with a mustache underneath, like how Boba Fett's original actor looks like a nerdy guy with a mustache
One thing I wish Star Trek cover in more detail is the culture clash between pre-Wolf 359/Dominion War Federation and Post war. People join Starfleet to seek out new life and civilisation and become scientist and explorer and even have conceit that they are not a military. You would expect that during the Dominion war, a lot of people would have join Starfleet purely due to protecting the Federation. This episode briefly touch on how this cultural shift can be damaging to Mariner where she join Starfleet to be a scientist and ended up fighting wars. You can expect the opposite as well when people signing up to defend the Federation struggling to adapt when they are expected to be explorer and diplomats. You would expect there would be different factions within the Federation. Starfleet as scientist/explorerand Starfleet as military and trying to unite the two faction together and expected conflicts due to this.
At the end of “Twovix” we could clearly see debris from the Klingon BoP. Now we see the vessel is intact and operational. How can that be explained? Does Locarno’s ship have an industrial replicator to create ship fragments? If so, what happened to the other ships? The Klingon in this episode was Ma’ah, the honest Klingon from the episode “Wej Duj”. Also, I now remember that in all the capered ships, the lower decks crew plotted against their captain, and the people marooned on the planet seem to be the command crew. Is this going to become a kind of Robin Hood story, where the command is taken from the captain and handed to the ensigns?
its stupid that the shield wall poles isn't shielded. Also they should've had it camouflaged like they did in Star Trek Insurrection the movie. At least have the wiring panel on the inside.. not the outside.
I guess camouflage is only needed when there are sentient aliens around , as to observe them without them knowing as not to violate the prime directive , but when it's animals they don't have to hide from them
Maybe Mariner was sent somewhere else after the shuttle incident. During Nog's second year as a cadet, he was sent to DS9 for field studies. Nog also got promoted early due to the Dominion War. He got promoted to ensign during his third year as a cadet and he got promoted to Lieutenant junior grade just two years later, so he skipped ahead like 3 - 5 years due to the Dominion War. That would explain why Mariner's friend from the Academy was already a captain.
I have this theory/fear that Nick Lorcano is gonna be retconned to be a transporter clone of Tom Paris, a la Thomas Riker and not more Mirror Universe bullshit, they rely on that trope way way way too much in Nu-Trek lately
hmmm . we know Boimler's transporter clone was recruited by section 31 . maybe they gathered up a whole bunch of transporter clones for some reason . maybe Thomas Riker will be their leader
Klingons’ blood was purple in Star Trek VI because of the MPAA rules about showing blood. The producers didn’t want the movie getting an R rating because of floating pools of red blood so they made it purple. In the next movie, Generations, when you see Lursa or B’Tor’s blood, it’s red, simply because it wasn’t ‘graphic’ enough to require an R rating. In universe, no explanation.
Even the music was extremely similar to Star Wars (especially the music they used on Tatooine) when they departed the shuttle. A little Nitpick if the Mirror Universe theory is correct,, adding to your "how would they not know this is another Tom Paris", surely Starfleet would have every officers DNA on file and their advanced computers would have cross referenced the two Toms and flagged it as an anomaly.
On the Cold Opening: I don't know if he was Eaten Alive, but his eyes certainly did pop out. Maybe Mariner didn't react as strongly as we would have because they have shown regrowing missing limbs/organs is a 'simple' matter with Federation technology (less serious than getting a hip replacement is today).
Considering they tried to hide the true nature of the accident Sito may have been referring to fellow 4th year cadets or just maby didn't feel comfortable telling a famous Captain her only friend was the daughter of by 2370 at least a Captain of a Akira (father) and a Commander/Captain (mother) California Class she was getting a second chance and was on a Galaxy Class she maybe been afraid she'd get a transfer she didn't want even if it was to a Akira Class Mariner's Father ships probably wasn't any safer of a posting after 2373
I think they'll reveal that Sito Jaxa is alive and she's the main villain (or she has a very good reason for orchestrating all of this). And then maybe Wesley will show up to save the day :) I like that they're not mentioning any connection between Locarno and Paris. They're just two different characters who happen to be played by the same actor (not the only such situation in Star Trek) and that's all. BTW, there was a good situational joke at the beginning, "at least the pants!" :)
There’s a symbol on Lacarno’s jacket and the bird of prey, I don’t recognise it but maybe they are working for a larger threat? Is the symbol the Colvert starburst, that would mean it isn’t the mirror version?
The symbol is of that forbidden manuever he wanted to do in the academy which got another cadet killed and him kicked out . I guess he never got over that
In season one we learn that one of Mariners class already made captain. I would assume you have to be at least 30 to have risen through the ranks. Kirk was 32 when he got command of the Enterprise and was considered very young, though a California-class is a more likely ship for a first command then a Constitution. So I would put Mariner at at least in her mid-thirties, which also explains her greater experience. Also her actress is 40 years oldm which would match.
Wasn't a fan of this ep... it felt like a real mish mash of TNG eps and Jurassic Park and Aliens to make a sorta Trek ep to potentially reveal what is going with Mariner's behavior... and the Nick Lorcano, aka the proto-Tom Paris of sorts, is the big bad? Really? The show never had a main season arc or purpose but I feel the more they try, the more it becomes disappointing and they should stop pretending they have a point. And is it just me, or did this ep feel like it wanted so hard to reference Star Wars more than Star Trek?
yeah it's convoluted . but if they reveal Locarno is the mirror Tom Paris it would solve this mystery of why they are so similar . although why would he go to the academy in the same time his doppelganger was there just raises more questions
Not sure why you would pick wild animals acting on instinct for your analogy. Something much better suited for that would be the Krill or the Kaylon from the Orville.
I didn't plan to make this analogy but couldn't help but think of it while watching this episode. I did plan to do a video about the Krill from Orville in the near future
The symbol on Locarno's jacket and the BoP looks kind of like a spider web. Tholians? That would actually match well with your theory, which I like a lot on its own.
For me, they ruined it with the cross-over episode in SNW. Now I keep thinking that the LD world is in another dimension and any references to real-world characters makes absolutely no sense.
You guys shouldn't be watching these dumb space fantasy TV shows especially the modern ones. It's going to melt your brain and turn it into soup. Nothing good can become of it.

They keep giving their episodes similar names to popular episodes to mess up online search results.

These monsters are michael burnhams pets she brought them back from the 32nd century using the red angel suit
Nick Lorcano is Tom Paris. He used a fake name because he didn't want to be associated with his father.
That was always my head canon . Now they might reveal he was always a transporter clone like Thomas Riker

Alien, Star Wars, Starship Troopers. All of them are different Universes, maybe that was a hint.
The real question is HOW OLD IS Mariner!
30 - 40
