hi uncle Elmo, i used to live in Penang for 7 yrs back in the nineties and food quality was better during those days. No cutting corners or putting profit first ! So in that sense, i am rather fortunate to have eaten a lot of Penang's classic dishes.
Rewind back a place I'm been before in penang.. I'm really love 888 hokien mee best of the best... Gurney drive .. bukit mertajam chu chap chuk my friend tapao me to eat definitely very nice but when I'm in penang I spent much time eat seafood in tambun ... very fresh and nice you should recommend
Elmo, you should have tried the Hokkien Lor Mee - i think this dish can only be found in Penang. one bowl of noodles with the combination of hokkien mee soup + lor mee gravy
My old hometown!! Thanks for the review!! I agree each town have their own specialty dishes! That’s the beauty of Malaysian food!! Trying to work out which I have not been!! Agree parking in Penang is a nightmare so you are right to get a Grab ! No hassle!!
Really enjoy all your videos with past history, ' armchair travel' from the UK till we hopefully visit all those fascinating food places. Keep up your good work!!.
Thanks for sharing your video about Penang! Love it! Hope you have more videos about Penang. I like that you include all the locations and addresses. Keep it up! 👍👍🙏

Best chee cheong porridge is at Kimberley street closer to Penang road end. Try the Hong Kong style won ton mee using bamboo stick, fried fish skins etc at Campbell street.
Another great video ... most of the spots recommended by you is really good as i hv tasted them as well and i agree with you . But you have also pointed out some new spots !.. This is be my new place to go when i am back in Penang ! Thank you for the great recommendation and keep those videos coming
For me, Penang is the best place for Chinese food in Malaysia. Sure for Chicken rice, I prefer Singapore and BKT, Klang. Should have tried the Assam Laksa in Balik Pulau, it's awesome and Ghee Hiang biscuits are great too (and I am not even into biscuits) in your list.
@@edamame5540 makes no difference that you are from Penang. List me what is good from Ipoh besides the Bean sprout and White coffee. KL? Come on, get real.
Great vid Elmo my family was supposed to visit Singapore and Malaysia in 2020 but becos of COVID cannot travel. Hopefully we can do it next year and visit all the places you mentioned!
Personally I think you are visiting the convenient and popular store. For the spirit of Penang Lang, we will choose to go to place that is tasty even it is inconvenience. Char Siew and wan tan in KL are much better, but the gravy of the Chulia street is one of the best in Malaysia. Come to Penang and try to visit around with local. You will find the differences. Anyway, I enjoy your video.
Thank you Elmo once again. Great foodie places and nice classical dishes introduced. I like the nyonya kueh as the taste at Moh Teng Pheow is still very much authentic. The size is just nice and I would agree that the surrounding / dining at that place makes it even more enjoyable. Very good Elmo. Thank you.
Laksa in Pulau Tikus behind the Shell station n Char Koay Teow too, Wan Tan Mee in Transfer Road, Koay Chiap in Paya Terubong opposite the sisters curry mee, Tiger Char Koay Teow in Carnavon Street, n Koay Teow Theng a few doors away, Oh Chien across the road at the corner coffee shop in the afternoon, nyonya kueh in Batu Lanchang Market afternoon and Tony Ais Kacang n Chendol at the same location recommended by Penangnites
Uncle Elom, thank u for this good video presentation. May i know the name of the shop n strret name of Ah Boy's Keow Theow Thing at timeline 8:25. Thsnk u
Me & my family couldnt believe the food in Gurney Drive was so bad. We went there 4 years ago, the food was bad. They charged my lougong RM35 for a bottle of sugar cane juice. We ended up the next night driving to Eden restaurant to have steaks. Other small kopitiam near kek lok si, char kuey teow was very good.
Sorry Henry guess it didn't cross my mind since all the prices were consistently cheap. I give u an indication on a cup of kopi. KL is 2.80, ipoh is 2.50 and penang only costs 2.00. That's generally how cheap penang is
Hi I do agree with you those stalls are famous in Penang... As a penangite,, If I really want to eat curry mee.. I will definitely go to the stall next to the one u ate..as for asam laksa it is well known ,,most penangites will say that the air itam dumb man laksa (哑巴)is nice and clean...
