You should provide some alternative options too: 1. Standard zoom: Tamron 17-70mm F2.8. $600 cheaper than 16-55GM, comes with lens stabilization. Sigma 18-50 F2.8 is another strong contender, cheaper but without lens stab. (You briefly mentioned these.) 2. Wide angle zoom: No alternative to the Tamron, since the Tokina 11-20 version is quite disappointing. Maybe ultra wide primes for alternative like Sony 11mm F1.8, Samyang 12mm F2 AF, Viltrox 13mm F1.4, Sony 15mm F1.4 or Sigma 16mm F1.4 2. Bokeh prime: Sigma 23mm F1.4 or Samyang V-AF Cine 24mm T1.9 FE. about $500~600. Full frame equivalent of 35mm is also a great focal length for portrait type shots.
@@DavidAngwaystandard zoom mentioned here. Tamron 17-70. Most universal lens in this price. From wide to zoom with stabilisation. Sharpest 30m sigma would also work.
Yay! Just found your channel and I'm in LOVE😍 Thank you so much for doing this awesome review on useful lenses. I was going to get your first recommended lens, but since the price is so high, I might start out with the alternative lens you suggested, the Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 first. We'll see how that goes! By the way, your "messy" hair at 4:30 looked great!
Like your choices and my kit varies a little. I went with Sigma 18-50 instead of Sony 16-55, mostly because it's significantly cheaper, smaller and very similar in performance and the Tamron zoom covers 16mm. Agree with the Tamron 11-20 and Sigma 30mm, have both and they're great. I also have the Sigma 56mm f1.4 which is amazing and Sony 70-350 zoom. But APS-C is definitely the bargain format, much more affordable system to build and performance is very close to FF except for really low light.
A comparison between the sigma 18-50 and the sony 16-55 would be nice, thinking that APS-C is a choice based on budget and versatility, the sigma lens costs almost 3 times less and weighs almost half.
As a FX30 owner/user I'm sad to see you included the Sigma 30mm but you totally left out the 16mm 1.4! That's a tiny and light lens with so much versatility on the FX30! When I use this on a gimbal my shots are all winners! Maybe on a part 2 ;)
Picking up an FX30 soon and I already have the sigma 30mm and it’s a solid lens! I even used it on my sonya6600 for photos. For video I also have the Sony 11mm and it’s amazing as well! Thanks for the video
Thats a very nicely informed video. I'm about to get started with fx30, I want to start cinematography and some street photography. Should I go with sigma 30mm ?
Kensei... I'll be traveling to Japan for vacation in mid-May. I'll be bringing my a7rv, Sony 20 1.8 and 24-70 GM ii. Also, ZV-1 too. I shoot 80% stills. Do you think I should bring a tripod? I was thinking that I might need to bring it, but now I'm thinking that I might not be using it that much especially with the crowds that are there now. What do you think?
Thanks, Kensei. Could you test the sigma 23mm vs. the 30mm? I found the 30mm a little too tight and I’m wondering if I should sell it and get the 23 mm instead as a more versatile lens.
GREAT video! Given a choice between the 16-55mm 2.8 and the newer 16-35mm for video, if it was the first lens for a new FX30. Which would you recommend? Thanks, Peter ,Vancouver and new sub!
Good morning, I have an A7Riv with Tamron goals I would like to buy the FX30 and my question is If you have Tamron’s FX30 and 17/70 F2.8 zoom, can you use the front knob to make the zoom work? Thank you Cordially
I have the Fx6 and I am searching for a small b-cam 🤔 fx30 or ZVE1? I don’t shoot for longer terms and I could use my ff lenses for the ZVE1 🤷♂️ what would you prefer best cinematic greetings from germany
Hey, great video! What do you think about the Sigma 14-24mm 2.8 ? I’m trying to figure out which one to get between the Tamron/Sigma ones. I’m going to do more vlogging/gym content/traveling type of video which is why I’m looking for a wider lens (I also got the fx30). What is your opinion? Thank you!
Well explained and stunning sample video! +1 sub immediately. Could I know the place that you took those sample videos. It looks beautiful. Appreciated it!
Thanks for this video! I got my FX30 yesterday, I bought it because of 4K 50p 422 10bit internally, and because my FS5 is rigged up too heavy for my mostly handheld way of shooting (and because I´m getting older haha). Thanks for your suggestions about the lenses, good point is the 30mm 1.4, I will definitely buy this lens! Best regards from Munich, Val Mont
Thanks!! FX30 can be a serious filmmaking gear but also it can be a compact vlogging gear with those small apsc lenses!! That's why I love this camera!
Have both the Sony 16-55 and the Tamron 11-20 :) I wanted to sell my zv1 for the sigma trio. But is there any need for all of them if I have both Sony and Tamron 🤔
People are saying it's good. But I don't know how actually it is because I haven't tried it yet! If there are many requests, I will make a video about it!!

Just picked up the tamron 17-70 and i love it!!
i loved that you test the lenses on everything , even small things like cup or something.
Thank you for watching!

Thanks for sharing your thoughts and happy shooting!
Great as always bro
Thanks for the lens recommendations. It's a big time saver, rather than having to go through the maze of APS-C lenses for e mount lenses.
Thanks for watching!
Glad that it was helpful!!

Is it possible for you to review the new ZV-E1 or even make a comparison to the FX30?

Depends on where you go.
If Tokyo, you don't wanna use a tripod. RV will handle it well even without a tripod!
Great video, very informative. How about a commercial training course about film making for amateurs like me?
Thanks, Kensei. Could you test the sigma 23mm vs. the 30mm? I found the 30mm a little too tight and I’m wondering if I should sell it and get the 23 mm instead as a more versatile lens.
Good idea.
You can crop if you need a tighter image.

Now Tamron 17-70mm F2.8 is my new favorite for FX30!!
what is the best lens for vlogging with the fx30 ? cinematic vlog with wide angle please :D
Great video thanks 👍
The 16-55 would be great for filming.
I got the sigma 18 to 50mm 2.8 and impressive
What do you think of the 18-135mm kit lens? Is it any good? Was thinking of getting it with the A6700 and don't know if the kit lens is worth it.

Can you tell me which lens is best for overall work as a beginner cinematographer for fx30
is Slog3 on APS-C same as on Full-frame? in highlights especially ?

Not yet!
I will!
