Love how he puts gloves on incase he touches a live wire, and then a few minutes later sticks his entire head through the bottom of the van right next to the box with god knows how many wires
I’m proud of you Louis. You are fortunate to get to work with Jehu. He inspired me to convert my ‘73 bay. I can feel the metal/cable/heat shrink/solder/crimper/etc. So much learning in such a short time. Then that exhilarating first drive? And you want to high five everybody. Congratulations!
DREAMS!! I Full Time in a class B RV, but an electric RV is the DREAM. One running on a Tesla model? Even better. Now hook solar panels to the room and then you can self charge and OMG LOVE. Good luck with getting her all together.
Wow. I would have guessed that the wiring diagram was simpler. That's so daunting. Kudos dude. It's inspiring how well you seem to roll with the punches. I'm sure you must have thought "wtf did I get started on" at least once but man it's so cool what you've built. Nice to see you all glowing at the end when it was finally running. I wish you lots of safe adventures with it. Awesome.
this is the best series of youtube videos history for me, by far best in last 10 years!!! i stayed all the way from video 1 to the last one in one breath!! your emotions on the end are so real and i love all about this project, GREAT WORK MAN!!!
What an amazing build!! Thanks so much for taking us all along for the ride, so we can see what it takes to do a conversion like this from an amateur's perspective. I do have a question, though. Why aluminum for the battery boxes? You're bolting them to a steel chassis. Steel and aluminum, being dissimilar metals, suffer greatly from electrolysis when in close proximity (i.e. connected together), and the presence of massive amounts of electricity coursing through the vehicle will only exacerbate this. Using steel for those boxes would have eliminated this issue, and you could have welded them together instead of using...what was it?...12,000 screws? Just curious about the thinking there. Hope you've sorted all the gremlins and you're enjoying your new electric ride. It's so cool to hear it gliding silently down the road.
Louis put an aluminum ramp to the chassis and then over the top of the front battery case. If you run over something high, you don't want it ripping off the front battery box but 'hop' over it.
SO Amazing. I've loved watching this amazing progression. I hope you know you've started a movement, no matter what the kinks are, we are learning from you. Gratitude!
good suggestion would be to get a solar panel kit to charge it up when your traveling cause not a lot of places have a plug outlet for electric vehicles you could mount it on the roof of the van or you could get one that folds up and can be stored away easily
The first drive smile and excitement is contagious. You gotta fiddle with the suspension, and put disk brakes up front, and strong regen in the back, as EV West recommends. Question, is it difficult or expensive to add CCS fast charging? Also, if you add flexible solar to the roof, and wanted to charge the main pack, how would you approach it?
It's so inspiring watching you try, make mistakes, and just roll with it. Congrats man. I just started watching your channel, and now I can't wait to see what you get up too next! Thanks for the hard work ...and the inspiration!
Hi Why don't you guys put the reverse switch into the reverse gear using an actuator which will switch to reverse when you put it in reverse gear, instead of having to push the button for reverse all the time. Also you could install an electric power steering and possibly a bit of a lift on the suspension to give enough clearance to your batteries underneath.
Congrats Louis...please have a skid plate fabricated for those battery boxes along with new struts/shocks. It would be horrible if one pothole or bump ruined all the hard work. God bless
Tarzan is a baller name. The book from which his name comes, is the second most awesome love stories that I’ve ever read. The Scarlet Pimpernel, is the first.
Amazing! Please make sure brakes are working. Would be awful to have accident now. Can you put on larger tyres to lift you a wee bit or jack up suspension. So exciting. 😎
I have watched all these episodes and I only just realised that the Tesla motor is attached to the original trans axle and gear box, that thing is going to blow up so fast!
Cool. A little sorting out and it should be an awesome upgrade. Look forward to seeing how it handles, range and how you like it. I’ll bet Jay Leno and Gabriel Iglesias would be interested in seeing this once sorted.
I bet it's Voltage Sag ? Basically, As you said, You're drawing too much oomph and the voltage is temporarily dropping below the "Low Volt cut off Point" Go into settings and lower the low volt cut off point down. If it's not that then turn off re-gen (or down) as it's overcharging and the controller is going into protect mode !
Congratz Louis to fulfilling a dream of yours ! The series was really fun to watch and the only thing left to do is to take the Wand-E-rBug on a "real" adventure!
Lots of work, lots of money a lot of troubleshooting but that moment when she chirps the tires?totally worth it with regenerative braking, who needs brakes anyway.
Wow! That J1772 Plug on Jehu's charger/EVSE is one of the versions that does not fit all J1772 Inlets and should be replaced. Jehu - send it to me and I'll put on a NEW J1772 Plug at no cost, just shipping back to you.
Louie! Your joy is contagious! It was so good to see Jehu’s joy, as well. I heard Michael’s voice on the helpline. Love this series and this episode especially! Well done!
Congratulations Louis!!! This was an epic build, and a great vlog series as well, I haven't seen you laugh the way you did after launch in SO long! Pure joy man! So contagious. I can only imagine the amount of work you put in to the build AND the videos 🎉 insanely cool
Congratulations to the fantastic test run! What a cool building project. Just an idea (I have no experience of it myself): Why not use an airbag suspension system, if possible that is? I'm looking so forward to see the rest of the build!
Well. First of all thanks for such a nice background music, second; you definitely need Cybertruck which is coming late this year, with 500 mile range for 70.000$ or for 49.000$ with 300 mile range.
Maaannn that's so epic. Good work!! Really happy to see it working. Honestly expected a lot more troubleshooting before it finally started rolling. Congrats
your cover plates should be lined with plastic on the inside :) just in case you put something in the boot and it creates downward pressure... you don't wanna short your whole car because of groceries... ;)
HELLO again luis from Ireland, that was a great show worth waiting for, excellent van you will be able to drive it around London, the LEZ " low emission zone " won't mater to an EV.
Very cool project, defiantly lowers your emissions but in now way lowers the carbon footprint. As lithium mines are just as bad if not worse than drilling and oil rigs for CO2 emissions, not only the mining of lithium but the inability to dispose of it properly. However I work in construction and mining so more mining=more money. So I’m all for these hahaha.
Your review of the Sony a6400 is what brought me here, I subscribed, and came across this video and I gotta say, the van is super dope, and you and your team is super dope 👌🏾
This is an awesome series dude! I’ve binge watched so many of your videos man! I can’t believe I made a travel channel in 2020 haha I can’t wait to get back to posting videos and travelling! You inspire me so much
Today I'm doing the wiring on my diy electric motorcycle. So weird how you upload this on the same day I'm doing the same thing. Anyway, nice job, no explosion, and a pretty clean install.
its a beautiful project, Kudos! - my only concern is if the batteries are punctured by road debris or uneven road. (I hope the sheets are tough enough)
Man, what an awesome project! I hope you get the issues figured out. A few years back I saw this guy transforming an Audi A2 to electric (I own a 20 year old one ..) and I was really interested in the outcome, but somehow that project stopped ...
Love how he puts gloves on incase he touches a live wire, and then a few minutes later sticks his entire head through the bottom of the van right next to the box with god knows how many wires
Thanks for filming this mate.

That feeling of adrenaline while driving such a new/old and scary vehicle is amazing.
I get it from a 1976 k5 blazer everytime
DREAMS!! I Full Time in a class B RV, but an electric RV is the DREAM. One running on a Tesla model? Even better. Now hook solar panels to the room and then you can self charge and OMG LOVE. Good luck with getting her all together.
Louis, I am a layman to the electronic world, it's facinateing and unbelievable all the wiring inside, like blood vains in the body.
Wow. I would have guessed that the wiring diagram was simpler. That's so daunting. Kudos dude. It's inspiring how well you seem to roll with the punches. "...with a little help from my friends..."
Priceless smiles on inaugural drive.🤗

we need more of this, more recycling of classics cars like this. good work mate
its not even usable
How in the world did I not know this project was taking place! I'm so fired up for you Louis!!
Louis put an aluminum ramp to the chassis and then over the top of the front battery case. If you run over something high, you don't want it ripping off the front battery box but 'hop' over it.
Louis "oh no we're gonna have so much fun with this"
Me "oh no he's about to break an axle"
You can tell hes not a car guy by the way he talks abt things, good on him for taking on a project like this tho.
yeah man, at least he need 930 cv¨s
@@journeyistheway good one
Way to go dude!! I watched the whole series since you started. You did a great job and learned so much. You can be proud! Enjoy that awesome ride bud!
Thank you mate! Stoked to drive 👍
Looking forward to your next video. Thanks for the entertainment! The winter is long and cold here in Canada, my VW Van is tucked away for winter.
SO Amazing. I've loved watching this amazing progression. I hope you know you've started a movement, no matter what the kinks are, we are learning from you. Gratitude!
Please get new wheels and tyres! Love the patina, but the wheels present the verhicle. Love this built ⚒🙌
Love seeing cars making people smile as much as they make me smile
I’m starting to understand why electric conversions cost so much! What an immense amount of work 😵
So *STOKED* for you Louis, congrats on the fantastic project mate. Now let's go for a road trip!
when are you going to do a vidoe
Using your tripod to hold the battery covers was genius!
good suggestion would be to get a solar panel kit to charge it up when your traveling cause not a lot of places have a plug outlet for electric vehicles you could mount it on the roof of the van or you could get one that folds up and can be stored away easily
Real interested to see range numbers, specifically with mixed city and highway driving
About 40 miles on a charge, seriously

FunForLouis to the Moon.
honestly glad he is still alive haha
It's so inspiring watching you try, make mistakes, and just roll with it. Congrats man. I just started watching your channel, and now I can't wait to see what you get up too next! Thanks for the hard work ...and the inspiration!
But please wear safety glasses...I know it's hard sometimes😀
@@matthewroy326 Thank you mate! It's been quite the fun learning experience

Wow, fun for louis. That's a name I haven't heard of in a long time. Congrats on the build mate and good luck on your next adventure!
Congrats Louis...please have a skid plate fabricated for those battery boxes along with new struts/shocks. It would be horrible if one pothole or bump ruined all the hard work. God bless
Totally worth the effort. I really like friends came through and helped out.
Tarzan is a baller name. The book from which his name comes, is the second most awesome love stories that I’ve ever read. The Scarlet Pimpernel, is the first.
The smile on my face seeing you take off!! 👏🏾☺️👏🏾 Congrats, Louis!!

Great job Louis you worked hard and EVs are good for the environment many happy clean miles to u and couldn't have picked a better partner than Jehu!
I could feel the happiness through the screen! What a great project 😄
Cool. A little sorting out and it should be an awesome upgrade. Look forward to seeing how it handles, range and how you like it.
I’ll bet Jay Leno and Gabriel Iglesias would be interested in seeing this once sorted.
So exciting to see this dream come to reality for you. Thanks again for taking us along for this ride.
I love Jehu so much. It would be amazing to do a project in his shop.
Awesome result how cool and exciting enjoy your new ride, hopefully not too many hickups with fine tuning it
Great job! Big props to Jehu(sorry if I misspelled)!
I recently built an electric BMX from scratch, insignificant compared to what you accomplished here, but that first ride, nothing alike .. Congrats!
Congrats to you too, mate!
That's Awesome I wonder what's its like to hear nothing coming out of the engine and just hear the wind going by. HA Amazing! Congrats!
Beautiful work! Nothing feels as good as successfully building something yourself. You should be very proud.
Awesome to check back in and see such great projects and buzz!
I bet it's Voltage Sag ?

So jealous I would love to do this. Now you need speakers in the engine bay so you can play engine noise through it 😄. Good work!!!

Love your vids man, I’m 17 and have a 1977 hippy bus and I’m swapping out the wiring harness this weekend and hopefully it runs after that
Could feel the joy and satisfaction! Good on ya!
Hi Louis, I received your documentary last night here in the Netherlands. Wonderful job, what a great result. It was absolutely worth waiting for!
Louie! Your joy is contagious! It was so good to see Jehu’s joy, as well. I heard Michael’s voice on the helpline. Love this series and this episode especially! Well done!
Sharing to our club page San Diego Air Cooled.

Congrats Louis! Such an awesome project and I truly enjoyed following along. Looking forward to catching a ride in it one day 😉🤙.
The lighting bus is coming to life!

I love this kind of video actually liked what u did to the van and I wish u could do some restoration to the exterior and the interior
Why does the song “Seems it never rains in southern California” keep popping up in my head with every step of this build?
Very impressive effort and great entertainment. Having said this I am reminded what a great deal my Cybertruck camper will be! Congratulations!
Maaannn that's so epic. Good work!! Really happy to see it working. Honestly expected a lot more troubleshooting before it finally started rolling. Congrats

O never thought a would see that car with an electric motor. Legend!
That Jehu @13:00 Excitement "DUDE YOU WIRED EVERYTHING CORRECTLY!" 🤣🤣🤣
I surprised myself!
Dude I’m stoked for you!! This is definitely the adventure of a life time!!
I used to love the videos when you got your dreads done in your kitchen back in the UK was so satisfying to see the before and after🤣
Congrats man! Amazing feeling once you got going I bet. Best of luck on your adventures in it.

Awesome work and videos . I cant wait to see its 100 complete.
I am so happy for you pal. Well done all of you. I wish I could do this with mine. Breaking down would be a nightmare though.
Great job man. This was such a treat to watch. Can't wait for part 2 and the adventure vids.
CONGRATS ON 2 MILLION SUBS
That is honestly amazing. That launch got me in stitches 😂😂
Louis. You should get a sound card of a VW engine to play while you are driving to see the look on other driver's faces.
Next level stuff. Super hard to work with electronics 👍

Very clever! Good work!
Congrats man! The acceleration is nuts! Hope to get my old Vw Lt35 converted to electric one day, currently got 60 horse power haha
- Hey man do you work out?
- No at all, I just drive a 73’ kombi without hydraulic steering
You come across as more of a hindrance than help on this project, the privilege of trustafarian!!
Amazing job, love this series.
