Вставка
- Опубліковано 30 гру 2020
- A lot of folks remember the likes of the Sega Genesis and the Sega Dreamcast, but there's one line of Sega systems that outlasted all of those (in Japan, anyway)! This is a line of Sega consoles that even had Pokémon games on them!
This is the Sega Pico, an edutainment console released in 1994! So today in this travel-themed Stuff We Play New Years' Special, let's go over the Sega Pico's weird history and legacy and even take a look at the system itself!

I hope everyone has a happy and safe New Year!
I'm going back on break until Jan 7, but when I return, I'll be starting off 2021 by attempting a Mega Man X6 speedrun over on Twitch, so definitely don't miss that:www.twitch.tv/jamie_plays_stuff
@@Mojaveknight17 I think so!
I didn't forget about the Pico. I hate titles like that.
I don't get why you would talk about the sound of the game, and not show us any of it?
What Happened At Your House Did Her Window Breked Or Not Breaked
Loved PICO, played richard scarry's world all the time. paint program fast forward to me being an interior designer
This was my childhood. It literally took me
HOURS to identify this vague memory I had of it. We played a Lion King game the most!
I played sonic games the most, now see where I am.. Tails obsessed girl XD
My cousin had one and I played the lion king game until I couldn't stand it. It blows my mind that not everyone had experienced playing this.
I played Sailormoon on this console, one of the gifts of my Aunt from Nagano. Its fun :)
the lion king game and the 101 dalmatians game were the best for sure
YES i’ve literally been trying to look for it for the longest time. it was my absolute favorite thing ever!!!
The special-Ed classroom at my old elementary school had one of these set up on an old TV. Funny thing is that I had no idea what the heck it was called until I was in high school and had been into retro games for a good 4-5 years and developed a good knowledge of Sega’s history. Until then, all I knew was that it was a toy made by the same company that made Sonic and it looked like a LeapPad hooked up to a television.
I thi k I had or still have a leap Pad somewhere in the house from my childhood! I just love old games and consoles so much. I wish I could afford to buy new ones!
I think about this all the time. I really miss my Pico system. It was really ahead of its time in my opinion
It had a lot of before its time features!
I don't know how my house ended owning a Pico when I was just a kid (I was born in 92, and I must've had one from the age of 4, maybe?), and I remember owning a Lion King game, a Winnie the Pooh game, and a game about Mickey Mouse teaching history, and all of their music is embedded into my mind. Fantastic and forgotten piece of tech, incredibly nostalgic to me!!
It can tell you've flipped a page because every time you do, you're exposing another one of those square on the right side, because the top part of each page has a different length. Inside those squares there's a sensor. So that's how it knows which page you're on. :)
I loved this as a kid, and it's most likely responsible for starting me down my path of being in IT.
Heck yeah!
I had one of these when I was little! This was my very first game console!
I was playing this when 9/11 happened.. I think the Winnie the Pooh game. I still have it!
7:27 - That's a pretty dope rocket ship dude! Don't sell your art skills short!
I'm glad you like the rather, uh, avant-garde take I had XD
Great video friend! I've never even heard of the Pico until now!
Thank you tons! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Literally grw up on this.
I was basically that kid who grew up on Sega Pico and Nintendo 64 while the others grew up on consoles like Playstation and Xbox.
I dont regret a single second though.
My favorite game on this, is definitely Tails music game xD.
I only know the Pico because of Choukou Senshi Changerion. For a series allegedly promoting the Saturn it's funny how it only got one weird little Pico game. but it's what it deserves
Good times with the Pico! Also you are missing the yellow pad :P
This was interesting. I never even heard of the sega pico until your videos.
I hope you enjoyed this look!
I heard of it in like 2011 on MN12BIRD
The only Pico I know is the one who saves his School from Shootings...
That happens in Democratic states 👍
I have one of these since I was a kid. I love it so much. I had sonic and winnie the pooh books
I have nostalgia fever dreams of Winnie the pooh and balloons that's all I remember 😂
6:48 you know I caught that "big red button" reference it has a big red button but also that's who made sonic boom lol. Great obscure review.
I guess you could say I'm BOOMING with references ;)
I used to play some sort of artsy drawing game on my pico and that visual is stuck in my head daily.
It would be nice to know who did the voices of Sonic's Game World This is probably the first voice role of Tails and Amy in a game. They're probably are credited in the Special Thanks section. Might look into it i don't know.
There is probably an endless supply of odd Sega accessories you could review...ever see the Sega Activator? Super fun :P
Yup! A local retro game shop actually has an Activator complete in the box right now. But, it's currently priced at a bit more than I'd be willing to pay just to make a video on it :)
The Pico was my first game console when I was 4 years old! I never considered it a game console because it didn’t have a classic controller and the Pico I had was made by Samsung and not Sega! The Pico was released in Korea under Samsung and had a big Samsung logo on the front instead of Sega and I only had educational games for it so I never saw it as a gaming console.
This really reminded me that I wanna get more of the Japanese Pico games and maybe get a Beena someday (especially cause Jenny wants the Pokémon game).
Glad to help you out! It’s very much yet another Sega case of making something that is purely ahead of it’s time.
Thank you tons for making this video possible! I've already gotten a few links to Beena ebay listings since this has gone live, so I guess that's my first immediate goal for 2021 now haha
I used to own a Sega Pico when I was little. I had four games: Sesame Street Alphabet Avenue, Richard Scarry’s Busytown Adventures, A Year At Pooh Corner and the Mickey Mouse game where he goes back in time. I really liked that console. As a kid, I was mesmerized.
It reminds me of the old Leap Pads. I loved that thing.
I can absolutely see that!
YES me too! I loved loved my Leappad when I was little. I would play with it for hours until my parents made me put it away to sleep
Cute, thank you kindly for the nostalgia trip.
I don't just do composite in PAL land it has the same port as a Mega Drive 2 (Genesis 2) full RGB glory so nice
I used to have the Sega Pico as a kid. I had 8 games for it before they stopped selling it.
Great video! My aunt just mailed a Sega Pico in box! God bless
Very cool!
I loved this thing, the Richard Scarry one was my favorite!!
I shit you not I had been STRUGGLING for over TWENTY FUCKING YEARS. To name & verify this damn system I had from little 5 year old me’s memories. And all I could remember is me having Busy World of Richard Scarry.
I actually have a Saint Tail and Ojamajo Doremi game on the Sega Pico. Always found it funny how big the cartridges were.
I think they're oddly charming in a way :)
I kept waiting for the Sega Nacho after hearing about the Pico and the Beena. Great video as usual my man, looking forward to 2021!
Thank you tons!
What about Sega Burrito?.
Tom Kalinski of Sega of America apparently could have made this the number 1. selling toy in America.
It may potential have had early grade school applicability.
I just randomly remembered this I’m 32!
Same
Now we need the Atmark Pippin
I had one when I was a kid god it was amazing
I used to have this a long time ago and I loved the hell out of it.
Go pico yea yea go pico oh
I loved this game. It taught me to tell time and I spent hours with Richard Scarry.
The USA version only had 20 games.
7:26 WTF?! LOL.
holy shit, i had one of these!! it was so fun!
I remember playing the Sonic, Winnie the Pooh and Richard scarry
Baby's First Video Game Console
I miss my old pico. I wanna get another one someday.
Sega GO PICO YEAH YEAH GO PICO GO
The Sega Pico can actually be used as a Japanese learning tool, as all of the games are region free, and some teach basic Hiragana and Katakana, and are easy to understand for people learning.
i miss my childhood
The thing is basically a giant DS but the cartridges are books
And you need a TV or monitor to use it
my childhood
I remember playing lion king and richard scarry on this when I was like 3-4 years old
I have the sega pico. I just cleaned my ribbons now i cant close it up to screw it up lol
Just as a extra sonic's surname is Boom meaning his full name is Sonic Boom (eg. passing through the sound barrier) and Tail's full name is Miles Prower (eg. miles per hour another pun) Tail's is his nickname
all i heard was go pico yeah yeah go pico
i played sega dragon i like it so much my childhood memories
I just unpacked my kids old unit for my granddaughter, bought an RCA to HDMI adapter off Amazon to connect to the TV, but it didn't work. How'd you get your unit to work?
Question: Does the TV have RCA ports at all? If not, are you using a powered or non powered adapter?
@@StuffWePlay No, no rca ports. It is a 5v (USB) powered adapter. I might have to try again though, I dug out an old TV from the garage that did have RCA jacks, and the Pico fired up after fiddling around with the cartridges. Seems it may have just been some oxidation on the tongue and groove connectors those systems use 🙂
I still got mine!
I Love The Genesis In North America Or Mega Drive In Europe, Japan, Brazil & Australia But I Don't Have This Console But On Emulator I Don't Need A TV
Remind me of the wii u
sega no pico
What if Pokemon was owned by Sega
Does it have a gun?
Unfortunately it doesn't
@@StuffWePlay Oh.
wrong pico
I own a sega pico
think games marketing to edgyness killed it if it played sega games well it might have survived
Can you see there's nothing for me to see can ypu feel the bad times on heeere todaaay it makes me want to (not actually) die i need too run awaaaay
I still have it somewhere, well...my dad does
I've always wanted one of these. I had a leapfrog as a kid which is somewhat similar. I kinda want to buy one, restore it, and gift it to one of my cousins with a kid in the intended age range.
