Nice! Seems like you could fit a small cutting board in the bottom, with a sharp knife. Or, if you could find one that will fit, one of those rectangular aluminum baking trays would make a nice plate. The one I use is about 9x12x1, so probably too big for this lunch box. But if you could find one, it would be cool.
If not, just fold up a few paper plates and stick them in there. I saw someone do that with a homemade MRE and that is a genius idea.
To go along with your spices, a very small bottle of oil, or some of those individual packets of oil would be good for cooking.

A can of gel alcohol. Slow to boil, but good for warming 'readies'. Flexible cutting board or bandana for a clean work area. Fill a spice bottle with bacon fat. A no stick coating for the pan and a flavor boost. Some popcorn for evening snack. Shelf stable and likes bacon fat.

I'm a huge fan of STANLEY ADVENTURE GEAR, have been collecting their gear for years. I put an additional cross body adjustable strap (has clips on each end) using the same metal strap rings that hold the shorter hard handle. Having the second strap allows me to either cross body it on my back or adjust it for a Fanny Pack style keeping both hands free when porting my kayak or for a short day hike. I put a multi tool, flat military style Can Opener and a flat Wood Stove w/Waterproof Matches in mine. Also a mini Spatula and Long Handle Spoon. Otherwise my setup is virtually identical to yours! I mainly use mine for Fishing and Kayaking day trips, or a quick trip to our local parks for that easy SUNSET 🌇 COOK UP. WORKS GREAT👍!

I put a Sea to Summit silicone collapsable kettle with a GSI silicone collapsable cup inside, use it to boil water, instant oatmeal, noodle soup etc, use the cup to eat or drink, collapses to almost nothing, cup fits perfectly inside kettle when collapsed. I prefer french press for coffee thus I indulge myself by taking a bit of space fitting a Zyliss french press cup, is small plastic double wall but unlike the Stanley green cup it has a lid keeping coffee warmer and free of bugs, inside the cup a ziplock with grinned coffee another one with powder milk for coffee or cereal, GSI Spice Missile holds 6 spices, very small but big enough for about 3 meals, if you get 2 you’ll have 12 spices or double up on your favorite ones and still takes less room than the one you have. Iclimb mini solo folding table, fits perfectly inside and when unfolded gives you extra room to place things or use it as a windscreen on its side just anchor it on its side by putting a rock on the legs to keep it up, use it as a tray on your lap while eating etc I have found tons of uses for this little table. Great video thanks.

I've been looking at the stanley lunch box coffee station videos, but using this box for a small chuck box is a much better idea than a simple coffee station. As an artist and writer, I travel to events and end up cooking on the road often. I'm thinking of tucking a mini kitchen in one of these boxes for my car. I couldn't fly with it, but for road trips it would be awesome. As for extra gear, I'd include a long spoon set. Great for stiring food in your pots and for eating out of backpacking food pouches, a small cutting board, hand cranked coffee grinder, canister for coffee beans. Love your spice pouch, but I agree it is too large. There are little round ones with four or five spices that would have a better form factor for your small box. I'm glad to see the stanley two cup cook set fits! I had wondered about that and feel it is a much better choice than the usual thermos.

Nice job! I like several of your ideas. There are a few other UA-camrs who have posted similar videos using the Stanley lunch box, I’m building my own based on a combination of ideas. One observation, everyone seems to dedicate a lot of space to drip coffee setups. I personally am happy to drink instant coffee when camping, and it takes a fraction of the space. (just one or two vials of the spice containers.) This leaves me room for more cooking type pans. The area that I’m working on is what kind of foodstuffs pack well, and won’t require refrigeration. So things like canned spam, maybe freeze dried food or powdered soup. It’s a work in progress. Thank you for posting this.

Most would suggest a multitool but I love a simple folding knife like the Victorinox serrated “tomato” knife - a slightly rounded tip.
I like the French nogent can opener - small & mighty but I guess even smaller would be those flat army can openers…almost the size of a razor blade.
Some would put in a multitool like a corkscrew/bottle opener.
My favorite utensils would have to be the gerber spoon/lifter/tongs combo or a simple silicone narrow scraper - to get all the last goodness out of a jar. And of course those tiny scrapers for help with cleaning food off before wiping….perhaps with those tiny towelette tabs (size of a large mint) that grow with water.

    • @SMafam5
      @SMafam5 8 місяців тому +1

Put in the other pot from that little pan so your coffee doesn’t have to taste like whatever you cook in the Stanley cook set.

The GSI Glacier cups (or Ozark trail clones) nest almost perfectly on the outside of the Stanley 2 cup adventure pot.
Put a scrub pad between them and you'll have a solid fit that doesn't rattle.
You can take the plunger from a cheap IKEA or Walmart clone French press and it'll fit the inside of either the glacier cup or the Stanley pot almost perfectly.
I cut the push rod down, heated and hammered the end flat, and drilled it to accept a split ring rather than keep the plastic knob it came with, but you do you.
I, personally, like to have a dedicated kitchen knife for cutting so I don't have to worry about my main utility knife potentially bring contaminated with something and spreading it to my food.
If you just need a cheap little paring knife, you can get those minimalist fishing knives in the wally world camp section that will get the job done and come with a low profile plastic sheath.
I mentioned the flexible cutting board hack in another comment thread, but I should mention that they work pretty well, even in the field. Having a hard, flat surface to put it on helps considerably, though.

There is room in the thermos if you’re carrying a small amount of uncooked items but this is more about an easy to maintain kitchen than a full service solution. I usually have my big chuck box and a cooler when I’m camping. This would be much easier to keep up with.
