    Stopped playing Deadlock a while back because of marvel rivals releasing but I’m still really excited to come back for the games full release and future updates. The meta reports and "outdated" educational videos will also serve as historical resources for anyone interested in the development of Deadlock. It's a great time getting to participate in the early build of this game, but I've been concerned about how much is getting archived. The debacle of lane rotating for extra souls and the subsequent hotfix can be recorded through the patch notes, but your videos add an insight into the community views and opinions before and after the fix. 5 years from now your channel might be one of few sources for wiki writers and interested players about niche changes and the contexts they were made in that would otherwise be lost to history.

    hey deathy, I like the vision you have for 2025 and content,
    for me I was added to the playtest maybe all the way at the beginning! I currently have around 750 hrs in deadlock, for me hopping on and playing everyday was super fun. Right now I'm just busy with life and cant really spend the same amount of time relearning for new builds / new mechanics.
    now that the patch cycle is slower I feel I can hop on a few matches each day now or a few times a week.
    for me and my friend group having content that revolves around trending builds and ideas for characters is great.
    if I'm not playing much or if my party isn't playing much either one of us can just tune into your content to get a little bit of a snapshot of what the current items/ builds are looking like instead of trying an old build from last time we played.
    with the amount of time I have ( and I think the avg viewer might sit around in deadlock). Seeing what is trending for each hero just really helps people that would feel like getting back into deadlock as too big of a time investment without supporting content like yours. as with any given patch
    fundamental things changes ex.(soul farming/sharing)(game speed,ttk), Item meta's ( gun vs spirit) , general character and teamplay balance( abilities changing fundamentally, buff/nerf,etc)
    if you had monthly / bi weekly videos on it, anyone could feel more confident to hop back in. as your videos share knowledge on not just someones individual hero pick but the generally ebb n flow of a game. With players even 300 hr+ they could easily feel ready to hop back in.
    as someone with the time I have and being pretty good at the game I would say it doesn't feel appealing hopping back in and just getting steamrolled a few games before actually figuring out all the changes or how the newest itteration general loop is.

      i'm kinda nitpicking a semantic thing here but whenever people say that deadlock is "dead" or "has no life" it always makes me think valve shouldve kept the game low-key for a while longer, because it's literally an early access technically invite-only alpha game with no advertising, progression system, microtransactions, esports support and a barebones steam page lol forget being dead it genuinely hasnt even been born yet. but because it went public so early there's a lot of this kind of sentiment out there and its kinda a shame
      i do agree overall though - the game is insanely good and i miss when it had a huge playerbase and all my friends were playing it, valve pls get it ready for release soon

    • @brown9671
      @brown9671 12 днів тому +1

      @@matrixystI honestly think it wouldn’t be the worst plan for them to close testing for a while. If you want people to get hype then take it away and people will be fiending for more. Idk, people are too quick to forget it’s in alpha because how fun it is already.

    • @matrixyst
      @matrixyst 12 днів тому

      @ totally agreed. i would be very down for more limits to access (unironically have kinda missed the time-specific matchmaking lol) like if we only got to play for like 5-7 days after every big update and then things were locked or something like that i feel like it'd be better for valve, for players, and for general perception & optimism around the game.
      i get that at this point maybe the devs feel like the cat's out of the bag and they can't impose these kind of limits on their playerbase, but cmon it's an early alpha build lol they should treat it more like one

    • @Tyler.8046
      @Tyler.8046 10 днів тому

      @@matrixyst While I don't necessarily disagree, this kinda feels like the same semantic argument people get in over a game being in "early access." Valve didn't market the game in the traditional sense, but the "invite only alpha" really played on people's FOMO which is likely why we saw such a huge spike. Once a game is openly available to the public, it should be treated like a full release regardless of how the developers treat it; you only get the publicity of a release once after all, entering Early Access or 1.0 doesn't carry the same weight it used to because Early Access killed the idea of "beta testing" games. The game was fairly polished for an alpha as well, really only needing map updates and more characters to enter a true beta/release phase. The problem, in my opinion, is the playerbase that stuck with the game was/is extremely toxic and really killed a lot of people's enjoyment; which I don't see being solved by a full release and is a problem in a majority of Valve games.

  • @Phillz91
    @Phillz91 13 днів тому +2

    I recently watched a history of GGG video and they changed their release cadence from sporadic to consistent and it resulted in not only stable but increasing playerbase peaks each cycle, reversing the downward trend. Deadlock is definitely different given this is still production and there are no seasons etc etc, but I always came back to Deadlock each patch to try it out. The game doesn't need to a massive playerbase for EA, but it does still need players to test and having infrequent patches, even if fairly large, could cause the number of players available to provide this feedback to fall more and more.

    I think meta report videos will still be great content even if there's no patch or if they'll become outdated. Even in games without patches for years (like Super Smash), the meta still changes as people experiment with new things, and that makes for great content!

    I think larger and fewer patches is what the game needs right now. I got exhausted trying to keep track of all the changes with the fortnightly updates, because it takes time to learn how to use each hero and which cards to use for them, while also not having as much time to devote to gaming as I used to. It also pretty much made UA-cam videos obsolete 2 weeks after they were launched, meaning only the most current were up to date given the constant changes.
    I decided to wait until the heroes and cards are more or less balanced and left alone before I will come back, but I have been keeping my eye on the game all the same, as I really enjoyed playing it.

    Secondly, I would love to see regular breakdowns of pro matches, maybe exploring some tactical or technical topics through examples from pro players that you think fit into the category, more team-oriented things also would be exciting to see.
    Thirdly, duplicate content is cool for me personally, and for you as a YT content creator, especially for the official release. Algorhythm doesnt really know what patch we are playing on, so if you pop up consistently in someone´s feed it will push older videos if the newer are already watched. So you´ll need fresh content to be present in the feed.

    As for Hero Labs and new heroes stuff, I think the best route they can do is to release prototype heroes on Hero Labs and experiment with abilities there.
    Once they think the hero has a final set of abilities, then they can move them to regular roster so they can properly balance them there.
    My previous problem is that the devs were taking too long to cook the new heroes on Hero Labs. They can't truly balance them there because Hero Labs are full of matches where people are just experimenting for fun and don't care if they win or not.
    Now that they pushed 4 heroes from Hero Labs to regular roster, proper balance for these heroes can be made.

    I think the slower updates will help with getting more polish to the game, the last year really helped get closer to a more balanced core gameplay.
    In terms of content it would be nice to see gameplay/replays where you explain your thought process and decision making while also trying different builds.

    i love your content! I think stuff that i could see you doing really well are uploading some of your coaching sessions to youtube, i think these would stand the test of time a bit as you can always learn from fundamental gameplay and commentary on that. I also think doing some videos that are along the lines of Jaynes guess the SR type videos could be a lot of fun and a way to get some more community engagement with both your channel and the game at large. (community games could be fun too!)

    I don't know how popular it would be, maybe you could tie it in to a meta update type vid. I love analysis of a pro game that focuses on 1-3 really impactful plays/macro movements that clearly won that team the game. I think it can highlight high level solo plays as well as shine light on the larger scale team plays that are hard to catch in a live viewing.

    i haven’t played this game in a month ngl. i don’t think deadlock is bad by any means, but it has competition from more engaging and accessible titles, and playing an unfinished game in comparison just became grating for me, especially after they removed ranked.

    I think duplicate content is fine so as long you're clear about identifying which of the trends/patterns are new vs age-old. You're already pretty good about explaining how the game's systems work and why certain stuff is favorable. Looking forward to 2025 Deadlock~

    The formula for your channel is really good. Education x Meta/eSports is exactly what I want and makes the entry barrier to a moba really low. Your content is what helped my friends who have never played a moba get into it and become addicted.
    February is gonna be a hectic month for gaming; Path of Exile 2, Monster Hunter: Wilds, Marvel Rivals, Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 and Tokyo Extreme Racer. That's a lot of high quality games to take people's attention away from deadlock and people will gravitate to the new shiny thing( I know I will). I think your hunch is right and if Deadlock moves to major patches only, you'll see interest spike and then stabilise with each patch cycle and recycling content to keep the channel growing and picking up new subs is the right move.

    I'd personally love a guide on how to close out games better. In my elo, it seems like nobody (including me) knows how to convert a soul advantage into a win, so with that plus comeback mechanics, half my games are these 40-60 minute see saw slugfests where nobody can get anything done until you fully wipe the other team twice.

    I think one more piece of educational content that your viewers specifically would love to see is VOD review style videos. I think even more specifically, gameplay voiceovers (bought this item because XYZ in this game. similar to your coaching videos on stream but inside your mind), or VODs with maybe one instance or play with a very specific takeaway. This could be a major laning takeaway, mid game takeaway, end game, etc... Just some thoughts, and appreciate your content!

  • @rooty_rootz
    @rooty_rootz 14 днів тому +14

    Appreciate the discussion on this. The player count isn't going to improve anytime soon with this schedule, and the current players will have even less content to keep things fresh. Good to see the community still staying committed.
    Suggestion: you could do some comprehensive guides on certain items. I think some items in the game are more complex and situational than others, could be an opportunity for you to go deep on what the item is REALLY for, which heroes it's good on, etc.

      i dont think deadlock really cares about player count to much as this game is still in beta. Ofc a huge player count wouldnt hurt but their main focus is just on making the game as good as possible for when they release and actually care about players

    The main reason I don't play Deadlock is that performance is terrible for me. I can't play a game that goes from 180 fps to 100 fps during fights on everything low at 1080p. I can't afford new gear.

  • @c1majesty85

    Have you ever thought about making a document containing some general information about the topics you want to make guides about? Linking regularly updated information about mechanics in the description of videos is much easier than making a new laning guide every 3 months because they change how souls work again. Deathys Deadlock Database would be great.
    Of course we have patchnotes, but those don't include how the changes will effect gameplay, and new players wont scroll down to when soul sharing was last changed to read up on how it works.
    Also having breakdowns of how characters work and how to counter them would probably be amazing for new players. I saw a lot of common struggles in lower elo with people just getting demolished by the same characters every round.

I like that you are considering some videos on how to get better as a team as well. I think that it could be helpful to include how to work better with teams as solo or duo or just as any group smaller than 6 fill.

    Some guides could be less subject to change and still useful. Like instead of focusing on currently good items in lane there's more broad concepts like how to make macro decisions, how to use the timer, how and when to use cover and map geometry, when to farm and when to trade
    When you update your ingame guides, the thought processes there would make for good vod content as well

    You could maybe make some educational content specifically on a certain hero. It would be useful to new players, and even existing players. Explaining items work well with that hero. Explaining their combos and how their kit works. Stuff like that. The videos should be good for awhile too. Since we won't have bi weekly updates. We won't see kit and ability changes on current heroes very often due too that new schedule. Videos like that would encourage me to try new heroes instead of sticking to my comfort picks.

    I'm glad rivals dropped in december to keep me busy. As a more casual player, I keep getting put into the most violently sweaty games of deadlock known to man where we get stomped with a 50k soul difference, and it's probably due to the playerbase drop. I'll probably just stick to playing on weekend when there's a larger pool of casual players like me. Looking forward to the future of the game though when it does go full release and some wha tmainstream.

    "Lets talk "
