86 years of age and still working like a 21 year old. He will never see his pension! Legend!

He doesn't want his pension. He said in an interview when his wife died that he didn't want to retire on his own, so he kept on with the festival. Otherwise the whole event may have been retired with him and his wife...RIP

What a nice guy, I sincerely hope his daughter continues in the same vain with the charitable aspect, and taking a chance on young artists etc. I went twice in the 90s, I actually bunked over the fence but it was great. Please don't let the corporations take this over. It's precious and needs to be protected. Mr Eavis deserves a knighthood, think of how many lives he has touched.

Its true that Jesus visited Glastonbury with his Uncle Joseph of Aramathea. That's no coincidence that the farm is called Worthy Farm. Its a very Romantic place and I literally cried on my way back up North; back home. Maybe Glastonbury is the beginning of a new twist on Western Civilisation... England isn't just a nation of money makers and imperialists. Its a Nation of Thinkers, Writers, Musicians and Theatre. And it's this vision of England that keeps my Heart Beating. Thank you Michael Evis for doing what you do. The History books will record you as a very important individualist. Love and Peace Brother. X

Thank god he voted remain, he’s one of the 48%. A brilliant British man. Brexit has been the disaster that someone with his vast experience knew it would be.

Love the Moody Blues, the Kinks and Marc Bolan ( T Rex ) ! Love the fact he couldn’t pay for Marc Bolan . Love his young daughter’s reaction to the festival ! He formed a local CND group too and CND was run by Bruce Kent ( former ‘ super monseigneur’ ) ! It’s all done for charity but has to just cover its costs !

I went to Glastonbury once in the 80's and once in the 90's and they were some of the best times of my life. The second time I went, was purely magical. I got see a baby dragon being incubated in a furnace. Well that's what they told me.....

It's a shame he wasn't questioned about just how much money goes to charity as the figures are never published.

@@HarmonizeEventsUK back in 2007 (a very rainy festival) there was a discrepancy between the amount given to charity and how much actually went to charity which got brushed aside along the lines of "well we had to channel money towards water proofing the site during the weekend" ! Eavis is a farmer - they are well known for being tight with their finances.

The headliners get 200k which is far far less than what they would get at say Coachella. They have a very strict budget.

I haven't got time right now to watch the whole thing but....does he get asked if he thinks handing control of the festival over to large companies instead of local ones who know what they're doing was a good idea? Or if he thinks handing more control over to daughter Emily is the reason why the line-up has nose-dived in recent years? I was there 5 times in the 90s, I went 2 years ago and most of the magic and madness had gone. It's like all the others. Ruined by corporations, townie organisers who think they know better, health and safety regulations and the insurers. There's a more relaxed atmosphere at my local pub.

Health and safety they have no say over i would expect and that affects all types of industry....He does say that it is the only large festival that isn't run by the likes of Live Nation/Mean Fiddler or AEG so that's pretty good. but i suppose everything has to change, it's progress...I've been to most Festivals but never Glastonbury but hope to go in 2019 and the 50th Anniversary...and i am pretty sure it will be like nothing else i have been to, I'm not into mainstream music so would probably spend most of my time at the smaller stages and then the Dance area over night...But who knows, ;) He does mention there are 12 people who book the bands, each stage has it's own management structure, Emily seems to have final say but it does sound like the responsibility is spread around.

+BNCA70 it was almost inevitable that was going to happen: the smell of money in the air and whole counter-cultural, curative and idealistic side of this festival is eroded away in favour of profit margins and returns on investment. The fact that Eavis is at heart a businessmen so the selling out of his beloved festival was quite easy to do.

@@johnstephenjones7348 agreed - in order to keep the numbers down to a safe level. I went this year and the capacity has been increased to 215,000 from 180,000 in 2019 - where's the logic in that? unless of course the fact that they all paid was the main priority !
