I had this and my buddy had the Planet Dance. Loved this thing. We sequenced everything using the Roland MC 50. Made a lot of bangers with this thing back in the day. I think my buddy still has both.

First ever synth was an EMU proteus 1 but it was built into a Turtle Beach sound card so it literally was like running A VST.... Pain in the arse to program though.

When I got to connect one of these to my Akai MPC2000, it was another world. I'm glad I have it today including the Mo' Phatt, Proteus 2000, Orbit and Carnaval. They look nice in a rack with all the colors. I'm looking to collect their whole line up. Just became a sub. 👍👍👍👍👍
@@DyReckProductions The Proteus 2000 was my first E-mu. I got that in the 2008 for $150. The Planet Phatt I got for $30, Carnaval for free and the Orbit for $60. Now they are worth way more.

I had one of these like 17 years ago. I gave it back to my friend. I literally just messaged him right now and asked him if he still has it. I want to use it again. It had so many nice sounds
The cool thing is, even if some of the sounds are old and cheesy sounding. You can easily throw them into a sampler or DAW, and turn them into cool new sounds.

I had a friend using this in 2005 when we were both making music on the Mpc 1000. He was a monster with this. He could run laps around workstation users at the time. Looking back I think since he had no other keyboard sounds he memorized the tonal context of every preset and wrote songs around it

I was aware of this when it came out and later the Mo Phatt. Never really used it. I DID own the Proteus 2000 and got the Techno board for it based on the Xtreme Lead
Damn this makes me wanna turn mine on, when I was like 17 the church keyboardist walked out of Bible study, drive home and came back with this rack and gave it to me....he left church to gift me with this and I used the hell out of it.
Speaking of: True Story: Back in the 90ies when I studied Music/Audio a college mate of mine was working at a large music store in cologne and somehow got hands on empty rejects of all the emu-Boards (cases thad had a paintigjob error or whatever.) He bought some chrismas lights, triggered them via an old Comodore C-64 (he was THAT Geek), Then he screwed 15 of the dummy racks (Protheus, Mophat, Lead...I think of each model one) into a rack programmed with christmas lights, rolled the whole thing on the stage and made, along with his other synths, for more Blingbling Audiogasms at the audience as Depeche Mode , Kraftwerk and Jarre together., His whole "show" of course came from a DAT. And, some day he forgot to Duct-tape the remote-control-receiver on his Player.....and his Ex brought the usual Sony RC to one of his gigs....and she was pissed...but thats another story... ;-)
Damn I saw Question mark and the Mysterians live in the 90's. They definitely played 96 tears, a couple times that night. Also the sample pack is great, plugged it into the mpc and having fun! Great work as always, long live Planet Phatt.
A Tribe Called Quest "Phony Rappers" and many bass lines from the ummah era. Jamie Foxx Show Theme Song (especially the 98 version "simple things are all I neeeeed")
The Planet Phatt is so good. It’s a bit ridiculous that it has a bass patch called Fingerus and a vox patch called Cumming. But it’s amazing that a legit company called it Planet Phatt and put it in a neon purple metal box with a lightning bolt across the middle. I like to think it represents a pair of spandex booty shorts starting to rip because they can’t contain all that ass. The only other rack synth this awesome is the chrome XV-5050 with the orange screen and green backlit buttons.
Proteus is the GOAT, their drum kits hit harder then half the drum samples I find online, btw did you know about the software port of proteus rack samplers? I have it on my windows partition..it's great but as a predominantly Mac user I'm stuck with the slightly less versatile Kontakt version
omg I forgot about that with the fortune cookies in chinese food, it was unacceptable to bring chinese food for someone and it not have the fortune cookie. As u said, you'd have to go back to the store. The Planet Phatt...man I've wanted one of these so long. They've become expensive. I downloaded the samples from the company that bought their sound library - but they're are just static soundfonts based on samples. Half of me wanted somehing that would sound hip-hop so that I'd def sound authentically hip-hop, but the other half of me couldn't bear to buy something so on-the-nose wannabe hip-hop. I've seen some great demos of the Planet Phatt but I have yet to hear anything cool from the sucsessor Mo Phatt. I hated the Proteus 2000 sounds, I got the PX-7 Command Station with the Protean Drum set - it was cool and I was so stupid and sold it because it was expensive. Are his prices better if you haggle with him or trade in gear in person? I live in the NYC metro area but never went to his shop because the prices on his eBay store are always like at least 30% higher than everyone elses. I assumed things would be the same in the store but if he's willing to work with people I may just have to stop by and check the place out
@@prufrockrenegade yeah, he def works with ppl. I went to his shop to purchase a used MPC X for about $1800 and while I was there he said why take the used one and gave me an opened box of a brand new one for the same price.
My friend had one of these and a few other rack mount pieces. I used to go over his house and use his mpc and didnt really pay attention to anything else. One day I went over and noticed a few of his rack mount stuff was gone. I asked him what happened. After some probing he finally admitted he fell asleep while a "friend" was hanging out and that "friend" walked out with his equipment. I thought he was joking but he wasn't. I think I would have lied and said I sold it. I laughed and smh...They didn't take the mpc so I quickly forgot about it and booted it up 😂
i have a question, so for years (decades even) ive been trying to find out where they got the snare drum sound for Whodini's track "funky beat". it was used on a few tracks back then, i think steinski & mass media used it on "we'll be right back". ive read somewhere it might have been an after market sound chip for the linn drum. any ideas Dyreck?
