      @Arsh Dhawan That's absolutely nonsense. Anyone who has read Tolkien, JRK and Martin's works know the difference. It may seem similar on the surface level but it's entirely different. Also, Tolkien did not introduce the world to wizards, elves, orges or other fantastical creatures. These tropes can be dated back to thousands of years.
      Tolkien's contribution to fantasy is undeniable but saying that others just rearranged his story is trash talk.

    You're right about the obvious similarities between LOTR and Harry Potter to inspiration yahin kahin se aya hai ye baat to hai. Lekin fir LOTR was the benchmark for this kind of fantasy genre jiska ki simplified version catered towards a comparatively young audience Harry Potter ko keh sakte hain.. Harry Potter though in itself ek kaafi acchi series hai but is nowhere close to the masterpiece LOTR is in terms of how intricately the story is woven and the sheer layers being presented by JRR Tolkien. Baaki aapne kaafi sahi nutshell banaya hai so very thankful for the effort. Keep up the good work and eagerly waiting for the next part..

    As for the tropes, there is something called a "Hero's Journey" that involves all the tropes you mention. Like a young protagonist, elderly mentor, trials and tribulations, a dark lord or an obstacle in the end. The first known written version of this is the Epic of Gilgamesh from ancient Sumeria. Really interesting stuff, check it out.

    Yeah,there are a suspicious level of similarities between some tropes in both stories. But that's all that is similar,the tropes. There are a lot of other aspects in storytelling,like how the characters are developed, how the world is built, how the audience might connect to the story emotionally,and a lot more. But your critique is appreciable too. Such similarities can be observed in star wars as well

    J K Rowling once said that J R R Tolkien was a huge influence on her, but hugely her personal everyday life and the people she met were the original influence on the characters; where as for Tolkien it was his days in the world war that influenced him to write first the hobbit book and then the LOTR series.

I know tenacious Tolkein fans are going to nitpick over his erroneous pronunciations of the names but believe me, even for a person like me who has read all the books right from Silmarilians to the End of the Third Age........who has the extended blue ray editions of all the movie renditions by Peter Jackson.....this 'nutshell' video was extremely well put. I mean those witty and on-point references in between the narration were almost epic and so ball-bustingly funny. I really bawled out in laughter at the 'bhag dk bose' reference when the fellowship was running toward the bridge of Khazad-dûm. Keep up this stellar work sir and never back down.

    I think that the whole similarity is just 2 stories following all the famous "troupes" of the time.
    Like both of the stories have the same base plotline which hooked the readers of the time and the stories/ writing style was completely different.
    So I think it's just a see a of authors trying to hook people with a good plot they already like and doing their own stories based about it

And originally Lord of the Rings is very much itself inspired from Norse mythology ,yeah the same Norse mythology of Thor ,Odin and Loki which has Gaints ,Elevs,Dwarfs and dark Elevs concept.

    Lord of the Rings can be called the Godfather of fantasy genre. Tolkein did fantastic job, getting inspiration from ww2 and norse mythology and created something legendary. And Peter Jackson gave us the visuals....something i don't think can easily be topped. Even after 20 years...each movie still feels like new every time I watch it.
    Now what Rowling did, only she knows,you can call it copy,you can call it taking inspiration from the OG. But no one can deny the huge similarities between these two.
    Dark Lord Sauron=Voldemort
    Frodo=Harry
    Gandalf=Dumbledore
    The one ring=Horcrux
    Nazguls=Dementors

    Both Sauron and Voldemort trying to come out from shadow....like you just can't unsee the similarities.
    But OG is always OG...this is why Rowling's so called Dark Lord couldn’t even get rid of a school boy🤣 You can say HP is the kids version of the legendary Lord of the Rings.

    Lotr movies released in early 2000s, I watched them in 2008-09 maybe. But I read the books very recently. It was a real shock, when I realised, Frodo and his gang were in their 40s. Mujhe laga teenager honge, yeh log toh uncle nikle..!!

    alright, so in response to your question, the themes in lotr and harry potter are recurring themes in high fantasy fiction. ursula k le guin's a wizard of earthsea and alison croggon's the naming have such similar themes, but are very different from lotr and hp because of storytelling.
    think of themes and archetypes in storytelling as resume templates. you can use a template available in google docs but it will only do so much to increase your chances of being hired. what you put in it is what will get you the job.
    themes and archetypes exist because humanity has been telling stories since centuries. but our stories are different because of how we tell them, and the reason why lotr and hp actually feel different because the story being told is different, in spite of common themes.

    The point you brought out is called " Hero Journey" . It's common in psychology. I don't feel the similarities due to minor deatails are common. Harry Potter goal and intentions completely different.

      @@sarfaraz185 star wars as a whole franchise? Sure. But I am talking about lotr first 3 movies which is miles better than the og star wars trilogy. The scale, the lore, the vfx, the cinematography is so better. It made the most money as a trilogy and won the most oscar as trilogy. The 3rd movie won 11 oscars including Best picture. The comparison here is extremely ridiculous.

    Actually Hobbit trilogy books were released from somewhere between 1930s to 1940s and lord of the rings trilogy books were sequel.
    But I cannot deny facts you presented at the end .
    But lord the rings trilogy movies have won 30 Academy awards which is a huge thing till date and it is considered one of the best movies till date.

    First of all i love you yogi baba and you videos aswell
    At its most basic stories do align elements that resembles an universal slovent because plots do share similar echos anyway if it vibrates from an idead which eventually base the structure of narrative
    Both stories hp and lotr sufacely sounds similar. But worldbuilding that structured each stories has an whole another approach. Hp specifically spects abstract philosophies regarding magic and delusion; it scratches the hunger will of evil similar to that of souron but each character serves an entire different arcks ....
