Ban gill nets. Please. Thank you, Carlos, for your amazing work. ❤
I signed the petition. Thank you for the 411
Gill nets in the marshes almost wiped out the redfish population in Louisiana. They are indiscriminate killers, and they are not always picked up. I can't stand them.
That's most nets though.
Gill nets are an abomination
@@thia41012 Purse nets and even trawls aren't as bad as gill nets. At least with trawls there are ways to eliminate bycatch.
Natives in Mn net walleyes and any other fish are normally not kept
People are greedy and they suck. The entanglements are a blight on our species. Just FISH SMARTER. And it's _disgusting_ that anyone would maim a creature and go about their day.
Any finning, anywhere in the world should be banned, period!
Sadly many countries would need to be FORCED in order to make them stop.
The killing of any sharks anywhere in the world should be banned too.
I 100% agree with you
Agreed 100%!
@@sharks3653that’s stupid. Most sharks should be able to be fished
wow. i had no idea about this. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
This is so sad. Going to sign the petition! Thanks for the information!
As someone who has signed countless petitions, not one has ever worked.
Something else that should be done is that would help is not only to educate more people about gill net fishing and the harm they can do to the environment, but also that more fish served in markets/grocery stores should come with a warning label about whether it was caught in gill nets or not (kinda like how a lot of tuna cans/food have a dolphin-free label). That way it'll help support small-time local fishermen that are helpful to the environment instead of the corporate fisheries.
When these corporate fisheries lose money over their practices, then there'll be more of an incentive for change.
Its good you brought this to people's attention. Definitely sighing the petition. Gill nets can do real damage to shark populations. This cannot be allowed to continue! The killing of sharks is wrong.
Signed. Thank you for this important information and sharing the petitions.
Sadly it's not just in california, even though they are protected in Mexico it is the same deal if a white shark is caught as part of bycatch, they consider it wasteful not to use the shark. And can actually sell the meat and fins
In case my reply got hidden, I'll say that at least they unalive it first and use the meat.
Great content. Keep it up!
Signed & Shared to my friends and family to sign! Thank You Carlos! 🩵
Thank you!! I am all in!!
This is such a great channel!
Thanks Carlos, for bringing awareness to this barbaric practice.
My pleasure! And thank you!
I just saw you on BBC news, congratulations. Best wishes always xx
Always enjoying your videos!
People think that are plastic that we use for straws and jugs. Water bottles is the most dangerous thing for oceans which is very dangerous but commercial fishing is like 90% of the pollution in the ocean.
Amazing animal. Thanks Carlos
Thank you for telling us about this terrible crime. It is sad that they do this knowing the tragic events it has on our marine population. I am all for hunting and fishing, but responsibly!
I vote for banning all nets and incidental by catch! No finning at all! What is the matter with these people? Too bad, as a non-Californian, I can't vote on this. It's heinous!
👍👍👍
As a marine biologist, I think the most important thing anyone can do is choose seafood that has a sustainability certification like MSC. It's important to implement selective fishing practices. Yet, the US has some of the most well-regulated fisheries in the ocean, and seafood demand continues increasing. As US consumers' demand can outstrip what is sustainability harvested in the US, imports of seafood from regions with less research and observing can grow, pushing the problem of bycatch and waste elsewhere.
Humanity is without feeling or inner-personal development.
I’ve seen where I live in southeast Louisiana , Gill nets were used here to commercial fish in our marshes and let me say , it was ruining the speckle trout , flounder , and redfish populations , and the CCA and GCCA got this banned for here
Question, do you think those guys you contacted about the whale with netting, would allow you to fly with them? Or go on their boats to aid the whales? Possibly use your drone while on the boat or ship..
Possibly offer assistance to give them footage for their ads or ??
Possibly, you'd get a tax credit if they are an organization like a donation ..
Fucking hell. WHY?
Thank you for your work!
Hey y’all … this video is really good. Did the first whale he spoke of die due to the netting or something else? Jw
Born in and reside in California, and no surprise
I find it absolutely mind-boggling how mammals evolved vom small rodents from the rain forest to cetaceans living in the ocean...
Yesterday YT recommended me a video of two guys fishing a bull shark in Florida. I was in total disbelief and flagged it as animal abuse.
I've refused to eat any fish caught by commercial fisherman for many many years. We used to select our fish from boats on the pier in Redondo Beach, basically we would pay for our halibut and then pay for it to be filleted and brought out to us at the fish market.
Tony's Fish Market was great....I doubt it is like this anymore, and the smaller fisherman are being pushed aside for these big boats that supply these catch filled with bi-product, and yes....great white shark meat being sold along the CA coastline.
No WAY!
This sickening practice is so disgusting and shameful truly sad and the fact that these precious predators are not protected in the USA😢😢😢😢😢😢without them we have DEAD oceans 😢😢😢
Well this is bull this still should not still be happening anywhere.
Very sad😒😡😡
Humans are smart enough to destroy the Earth, but are we smart enough to save it?
Unfortunately, the bill was cancelled on the 15th by the author.
I really dislike people.
This is Animal cruelty damn it!!!😩
I tried to sign the petition but it expired
This is awful news and I thought the whites were protected. Divers and protectors of our oceans you have my support! We have to help the whales and sharks😢
I did not know what gillnets were until this video. What a horrid instrument! They should be illegal everywhere.
I often watch the seal rescuers' videos in Namibia who constantly refer to them as a major cause of seal strangulation/wounding around the neck. These things are vicious in more than one ways as parts of them often end up drifting in the oceans causing immense damage.
This is absolutely disgusting, how can this be legal i will definitely do all i can do to get them band
This is just disgusting 😢😢😢😢😢
The whale was already was heart breaking when you didn’t say & … we freed it ,then continued w cutting off shark fins is legal. I had to stop. 😢
It is disgusting that it is allowed!
Ban finning
I hope 2220 passes and protects the marine environment. I'm angered that gill nets are legal in SoCal! 😡
While china demolishes everything. ...no gill nets . As well i agree but them i like my tune cans. And another thing why do comercial size boats get to fish so close to shore in santa barbara county ... and lets stop cutting all the kelp ....we are demolishing nurserys of all kinds. No more kelp cutters close to shore.
Seaspiracy
Nets are not the answer ‼️ but we do need some sort of protection from these sharks ‼️ yes I do stay out the ocean an I use to love swimming in the ocean but not any😢more‼️ so remember when you swim in the ocean it's there home ‼️NOT YOURS ❣️❣️ be aware of where you swim in the ocean or rivers ‼️
Ahh once upon a time the world and nature were in perfect balance.
Then humans came along......
I filmed some Gray Whales Carlos!! At Point Dume as well!! Please See my comment you are the reason why I started this!!
I thought great white sharks were protected in the US!
Ridiculous. Gil nets are cruel. Ban this practice now!
NOOOOO!!! STOP HARMING SEA LIFE. We've pretty much ruined the earth surface and atmosphere. Lets save the oceans
Our government needs to make this illegal , finning any shark should not be allowed , Ban the Gill nets too
I feel sorry for the American taxpayer whose tax dollars pay for all of Trump's Secret Service motorcades and security. An Uber from Trump Tower to the courthouse would cost... $30?
Ban finning !!!!
Absolutely barbaric...thank the asian take over.
Great - but one sided - lets hear from fishing industry - also you wouldn’t be pro choice would you - killing innocent human babies in mothers womb - interested in response
Wtf. Go watch a video from the fishing industry if you want their take and keep your completely unrelated abortion topics for another channel. That you think there is an association between indiscriminate killing of fish and marine mammals in gill nets and abortion is disturbing.
@@28th_St_Air
Your anger is disturbing - and that society puts welfare of marine animals of greater importance than protecting human babies greatly disturbing - i can consider two topics at once - my point is lovely Malibu Artist probably pandering to an agenda - that is all - grow up and cool down
@@merewebster4510 it’s baffling that you somehow think it’s perfectly fine to up and start a hostile discussion about abortion on a channel that is primary about observing sharks.
