Hi Gary. The spalting is perfect for a Saturn bowl, I have had the same happen to broadleaf maple that is common here, just leave it covered while it dries and presto! Thank you Gord! I left one large round just sitting out in the rain for over a year then I decided to make a large planter for the yard. I was shocked how much it had spalted. I am thinking I never had it under the tarp. I did a video on it as well. It was a good sized turning. Still sitting out front under cover facing the exact spot were it grew. We planted it and it never produced the colors my wife thought it was supposed to. A very pretty Oklahoma Redbud in it's place now. Thanks for watching, Gary

Fascinating. This is a great design and an excellent result. It was a pleasure to watch you work through the steps on this bowl. I learned a lot. I was also very interested to see how well the hot-glued tenon held up to that large Forstner bit. Nice! Oh, I had not seen the acetone-release technique, so thanks for that, too. This bowl is just plain cool. And tarp spalting is good to go. Many thanks!

Thank you Phil and you know how much I love doing things like this. The spalting was a very pleasant surprise when I started getting into this wood. I guess a year and a half stored under a tarp did the trick. The wood was so boring looking I almost tossed all of it. I am digging through my wood to find for 2 natural edge turnings I want to do. That’s a really neat project and the perfect piece of wood for it, it’s got some neat looking grain patterns in it that go’s great with it, Enjoyed the video and thanks for showing the acetone releasing the hot glue trick I didn’t know about that, I will definitely be doing that from now on, Hope ya have a great weekend

Thank you Andy happy you enjoyed it,. I knew I should have used a piece of the Maple tree that was crossed with a Walnut tree...lol
So it has been suggested before that I had some colored rings and I am working on a design. And you will not have to wait till Saturn and Jupiter get together again.

Sitting here waking up with coffee thinking "Do the whole solar system and hang it on a mobile from the ceiling (perhaps in a smaller scale) ... I love it, HA...Make it a fantasy galaxy with really strange woods???...(OK, I know Gary, way too much coffee!!!) ..... I love pushing the imagination in a positive way......TM
