The other Everest videos I've watched mostly only show looking up at Everest peak. Yes that is impressive but it doesn't really make you feel like you are there. Here you have shown the incredible views all around you. Thank you for sharing the experience.
I have been watching these Movies and documentaries for like 5days non stop!! I have no desire to do this but it’s fascinating how many people choose to risk their life just to make it to the Summit!! Like the mountain has an area called the death zone!! And there is a cave called green boots cave with the corpse of a hiker that never made it down!
1helluvawomen The death zone is 8000m and above. The Himalayas, if I remember correctly, have 14 mountains that bring climbers into the death zone. Damn, 8000m is where airplanes cruise. The death zone for me is around 1000m. Related to Green Boots and Everest, check out “Rainbow Ridge.”

Absolutely blown away by the number of people on the mountain! It's turning into a tourist destination. A hell of a lot of people are gonna die on that mountain.
Look at all those boulders at :22! I wouldn't want to camp amid those! They had to come down from somewhere! I don't know whether or not I admire people who try to climb Mt. Everest. There have been thousands who had tried and as far as I know, about 500 who have died on the mountain (that they know about) since about 1953. I do admire those who summit the mountain though, they are a very special breed. But it is noted that a number of deaths have occurred on the way back down AFTER they summited. Maybe some of that push is gone, there are many reasons and as many things that can happen to them. One man ascended 5 times, became a guide and then lost his life. It wouldn't be worth the chance to me. Mt. Everest gets a lot of climbers because it is far easier than some of the most noted of the 8,000'+ mountains that are technically and strategically more difficult but, after all, Mt. Everest IS the tallest mountain in the world and that is the draw.
5:11....."You can seen camp 3 up there", ugh no we can't...he zooms in and You see ANTS!!! Wow, shows how massive that mountain is, humans looking like ants. Amazing!
I've dealt with altitude issues at much lower altitude so notwithstanding the cost, time commitment and mortal danger, Everest is certainly not a possibility for me. Trekking to base camp would probably even be too much. Anyway, I'm always curious to find out what people who do it find to be most difficult. Is it the cornice traverse which looks scary as hell, the hillary step which must be very hard to climb considering how exhausted you are, or just the length of summit day at such high altitude? Also, coming back down must not be easy especially when you consider how tired you are by that point and the fact that you still have to do the hillary step and traverse....I can't imagine.
It's impossible to pinpoint one segment of the climb as "the most difficult." It's the entire experience over 6-8 weeks. Even the time at Base Camp is physically and emotionally draining. The Cornice Traverse didn't bother me. I just visualized success in crossing the Traverse and tried not to focus on the exposure. The Hillary Step wasn't that difficult--way easier that the First Step, the Second Step and the Third Step on the North side. See my 2014 North side video. Bill
I'm a retired construction worker. I never liked those flimsy aluminum ladders the way they were meant to be used, let alone as a scaffold or walkway. If one of those climbers tripped and fell hard on one of those ladders it would likely fold up. I was glad to see the climbers were all tied off to the hand lines.
Can't tell for sure, but did you catch a boulder rolling down the mountain? At 0:22 just to the right of center, you can see 2 orange tents with a blue tent "above" them. If you watch, something just beyond the blue tent goes flying down hill from 0:22 to 0:24.
Depends on the height of the Glacier, and if there are any actual crevasses below it. If it's not too high upon first encounter, could easily fall and clamber yourself up. It's not the cracks that are dangerous. It's what happens when you make it unstable on the way down. Could easily cave in like two walls. Love glaciers.
You made it look so easy with your video lol. I was amazed it was not that crowded on the final leg up. Usually you hear stories of traffic jams and hours waiting on the final leg up.
@@QnQoooo probably one the one he was using at the time. The Sherpas carried his oxygen for him. And they carried everything else. It's interesting that there is no mention in this video of acclimatization hikes. Most expeditions climb to camp two or three and then down to base camp to rest. The time at the higher camp prepares the body for the summit push. Climb high and sleep low. I'm also curious about how much supplemental oxygen is being used. "From the base of the Lhotse Face" is when oxygen is used. After that point, are you breathing supplemental oxygen all the time?

There are many stray "homeless"dogs on the 35-mile trek from the airport at Lukla to Base Camp. Signs are posted not to feed these dogs. I once encountered one of these dogs on my trek back from Base Camp to Lukla. He followed me for several miles, hoping for a handout. I felt sorry for the dog, but honored the warnings, which are there for a reason. Finally, I stopped at a tea house, hoping that when I came out 30-minutes later, he would be gone. When I came out, he was patiently waiting for me. I suspect he sensed I love animals, especially dogs. Finally, I caved and left a stash of food for him to eat. I then picked up my pace and never saw him again. The dogs make their way up to Base Camp because they know they will be fed by climbers and cooks. Leftover food at Base Camp is routinely thrown out in piles near the dining tents. The birds and dogs enjoy a King's feast. When the dogs see the climbers make their way up the Khumbu Icefall on their way to Camp 1, some of them naturally follow. Their ability to cross over and climb up the 30-40 ladders in the Icefall is an astonishing feat of bravery and skill. I was blown away when I saw that black puppy following me up the Icefall. He was not following me in particular. He arrived with the teams at Camp 1 and then, the following day, followed the teams up to Camp 2, and from Camp 2 to the foot of the Lhotse Face. If you review my footage from Base Camp to the Lhotse Face, you will understand how incredible this is for a canine. No dogs appear on the Lhotse Face because it is too steep and icy. At the foot of the Lhotse Face, my teammate put the dog on a leash and walked him back to Camp 2. We never saw him again. I doubt that any canine could move down a 50-foot vertical ladder to return to Base Camp, but I could be wrong. These dogs are not pets. I don't think there is any good way to stop them from pursuing their instinct to stay alive, other than to capture and euthanize them, which no one supports.
Does anyone know if they all go back the same way or not?,I can't believe they all use those ladders going back as week as they all are. If so how can one expect to help another back down who can't walk at all ,, especially in crossing over the ladder back.
The same ladders are used by everyone going up and coming down. But, the ladders are constantly being maintained and replaced by the "Sherpa Doctors" because they move as the glacier moves. Sick, injured and deceased climbers are brought down in sleds. The sleds can move across and down the ladders.
Sorry, the term is "Icefall Doctors," not "Sherpa Doctors." Icefall Doctors are Sherpas who are hired to install and maintain the ladders in the Khumbu Icefall during the climbing season.

The ice falls shift constantly. Anything constructed there would be destroyed within weeks or days. Anything more substantial would just be too heavy to continually replace and lug up the mountain.

Not like any park near me! 3 people have died this year attempting it already (and the season's only been open a few weeks) 6 died last year, 7 the year before, and something like 19 or 20 in 2015. K2 is a much more technical climb, but Everest is not without its dangers. The oxygen failures that lots of the teams have been having this year have put lots of people's lives at risk.
The ladders are very sturdy and are usually only crossed by one climber at a time. As the glacier moves down the mountain (approx. 3 feet/day) the ladders must be moved or they will be destroyed.
I wonder too. Ladders are relatively light and durable and easy to maneuver. More sturdy options may be heavier and less practical if they're solid. Also you can join multiple ladders together and adjust the sizes to suit the space of whichever crevass is being crossed. Perhaps that's some reasons they're still used.
i love the way that everyone respects the nepalese sherpas, coz their life depends on them. but here in uk they are all racist against nepalese and they are seen as waste

so let's see here.....how many billions of people have been on this planet since 1953? lots. and to this day there's roughly about 5000 people to ever made it to the top of that mountain.. I still think the accomplishment is stunning and certainly a test of endurance and stamina. I'm not a mountaineer and I know many accomplished climbers say Everest is basically a "walk" and not a climb....OK, I can see that......but when I see videos of going through the icefall, walking along the Cornice Traverse and climbing the Hilary Step, I know it's something that takes a very fearless and determined person to try and do.
Choppers can't go that high. It is as high as commercial jet travel. Air is too thin for copters. Max they go to us camp 1 to throw ropes. Jetstream hits the summit, normal helicopters can't stand that windforce.
With all the ladders going to up to the top im surprised no ones built a elevator yet. Why not just take a helicopter to the top and say you've been there.

Camp 3 is half way up the Lhotse face and camps 2 and 3 are a few thousand feet apart. Distances are discieving.

I have seen a few videos with discarded oxygen bottles left at camp 3 and piles at 4 . are these bottles refillable or just one time use ????

They are too much work to carry all the way back down so new ones are just carried up.

Who carries the ladders? That must be very heavy to carry the whole way up , and down.
Sherpas carry the ladders. They are called "Icefall Doctors" because they maintain the ladders in the Khumbu Icefall.
These ladders are only on the icefall spot, the very start of the climb.

Can someone explain how the ladders do not collapse to me
The ladders are very sturdy and are usually only crossed by one climber at a time. As the glacier moves down the mountain (approx. 3 feet/day) the ladders must be moved or they will be destroyed.
Ladders also have weight loads on them like 200 or 275 pounds extension ladders for construction

I wonder too. Ladders are relatively light and durable and easy to maneuver. More sturdy options may be heavier and less practical if they're solid. Also you can join multiple ladders together and adjust the sizes to suit the space of whichever crevass is being crossed. Perhaps that's some reasons they're still used.

They don't need Sherpa's but remember Nepal helped them maintain the murderous (British) empire. They have every right to the resources the Brits have accumulated.

How could you or anyone take a dog there and cross the ladder over the crevasse!!! No one in their right mind would do that to their dog if they loved him and would not take him to climb Mt. Everest!!! What the hell were you thinking!!!
There are many stray "homeless"dogs on the 35-mile trek from the airport at Lukla to Base Camp. Signs are posted not to feed these dogs. I once encountered one of these dogs on my trek back from Base Camp to Lukla. He followed me for several miles, hoping for a handout. I felt sorry for the dog, but honored the warnings, which are there for a reason. Finally, I stopped at a tea house, hoping that when I came out 30-minutes later, he would be gone. When I came out, he was patiently waiting for me. I suspect he sensed I love animals, especially dogs. Finally, I caved and left a stash of food for him to eat. I then picked up my pace and never saw him again.
The dogs make their way up to Base Camp because they know they will be fed by climbers and cooks. Leftover food at Base Camp is routinely thrown out in piles near the dining tents. The birds and dogs enjoy a King's feast. When the dogs see the climbers make their way up the Khumbu Icefall on their way to Camp 1, some of them naturally follow. Their ability to cross over and climb up the 30-40 ladders in the Icefall is an astonishing feat of bravery and skill. I was blown away when I saw that black puppy following me up the Icefall. He was not following me in particular. He arrived with the teams at Camp 1 and then, the following day, followed the teams up to Camp 2, and from Camp 2 to the foot of the Lhotse Face. If you review my footage from Base Camp to the Lhotse Face, you will understand how incredible this is for a canine. No dogs appear on the Lhotse Face because it is too steep and icy. At the foot of the Lhotse Face, my teammate put the dog on a leash and walked him back to Camp 2. We never saw him again. I doubt that any canine could move down a 50-foot vertical ladder to return to Base Camp, but I could be wrong.
These dogs are not pets. I don't think there is any good way to stop them from pursuing their instinct to stay alive, other than to capture and euthanize them, which no one supports.

so let's see here.....how many billions of people have been on this planet since 1953? lots. and to this day there's roughly about 5000 people to ever made it to the top of that mountain.. I still think the accomplishment is stunning and certainly a test of endurance and stamina. I'm not a mountaineer and I know many accomplished climbers say Everest is basically a "walk" and not a climb....OK, I can see that......but when I see videos of going through the icefall, walking along the Cornice Traverse and climbing the Hilary Step, I know it's something that takes a very fearless and determined person to try and do.

Choppers can't go that high. It is as high as commercial jet travel. Air is too thin for copters. Max they go to us camp 1 to throw ropes.
Jetstream hits the summit, normal helicopters can't stand that windforce.

a lot of trash on the top of the mountain. in a few year 1000 people every day will reach the top
With all the ladders going to up to the top im surprised no ones built a elevator yet. Why not just take a helicopter to the top and say you've been there.
