    hey Nathan hope all is well, greetings from Trinidad I usually use the m noise trace as my target to mix an the results are amazing.

      That's great. Glad you have found something that works for you. Although, m-noise is not a target. It's a measurement procedure to find max spl.

    Hey Nathan, is there a way to take the trace files from something like tonal balance controll 2 , and import it to smaart ?

      Hey kali, I think you should contact the manufacturer about that. But, if there's an option to export as some kind of text file, then almost definitely yes. This might help: www.sounddesignlive.com/single-channel-rta-targets-to-improve-your-mixes/

    Hi, when doing the target trace for multiple matrix line, do you do each matrix line at a time? For example, my left and right running matrix 1&2, my mid fill running matrix3, if i do trace target for my left and right, then when i turn on my mid fill the trace target for L&R will be affected. Do you suggest to turn mid fill on while doing trace target for my L&R? If i turn mid fill on when doing trace target for L&R then when doing trace target for mid fill it will affect my previous setting for the L&R right. Can you please suggest what can i do for this case. Thanks in advance.

      Hi phutran. Every source needs verification, aim, placement, EQ, and crossover alignment solo and combined. For example, to be complete, you would calibrate each element of your mid-fill array, then calibrate it as a unit, then calibrate it combined with other systems.

    Hi Nathan, just wondering if that target trace was used for live sound check under pink noise? Do you use weight Z measurement (flat) to do the live sound measurement reaching that target trace? Thanks

      @nathanlively  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Phu!
      > that target trace was used for live sound check under pink noise?
      I typically use audio analyzers that are source independent. I can use music, pink noise, or anything else and it will deliver the same data. That being said, I usually use a combination of pink and brown noise and music. :)
      > Do you use weight Z measurement
      Yes

    Hi Nathan, interesting video. Do you propose to set the system tuning standard to your target trace?
    All other videos are about creating a blank canvas by tuning the system to ' flat' and only correcting venue sound problems.

      Hey Jeroen, thanks for checking out the video.
      > Do you propose to set the system tuning standard to your target trace?
      No, not at all. In fact, if possible, I suggest EQing your first main system with reference tracks by ear, then using a measurement of that as your target. I have found the general targets I'm using now to be helpful specifically for Smaart with its multiple time records. If a speaker is well behaved at 1m, it will have this kind of tilt once you get 20m into the room.
      Another way to go about it is to look at the final measurement of combined systems from your last shows and develop a target trace from that, system brand/model dependent if possible.
      > by tuning the system to ' flat'
      Did I say that? I hope not. If so, it may have been a mistake. The audio analyzer is great at helping you find "same", but I avoid promoting "flat".

      Hey Nebojsa, you can use whatever test signal you like, even music. That's what's so great about the transfer function.

    How do you move the smaart stock target trace down to your measurements? Or do you have to bring the measurements up to the trace?

    • @nathanlively
      @nathanlively  3 роки тому

      Hi Blonchay123, please see pg. 86 of the Smaart User Guide.
      Target curves cannot be grabbed or moved up and down on the graph as live measurement and static data traces can. They move up or down automatically to accommodate changes in banding resolution, but otherwise their position is fixed. They do not appear in the graph legend and the cursor readout ignores them. Target curves are not displayed on un-banded (narrowband) spectrum displays or transfer function graphs. However, if you need a target curve for a narrowband RTA or transfer function graph, you can make one pretty easily by importing data from a text file as a regular data trace, using the Import ASCII function (see Import ASCII on page 83).

    Hi Nathan,
    I have a question about your new target trace.
    It's work only when you make average right ?
    Thx

    • @nathanlively
      @nathanlively  5 років тому

      No, it works for single measurements as well, but watch out for the transitions zones. Depending on your distance and whether you are indoors, it should be adjusted.
      I discuss this more in-depth in Master Your Craft, but this image summarizes it - postimg.cc/5QvNdrm5

      Maybe? No one trace will work for all situations. Start with mine. See if it gets you in the right ball park, then adjust.

      @@nathanlively Hi, do you use the flat weighted curve to match with your target trace? Or do you use A type weighted curve to match with the target trace? I find the A type weighted curve gives me too much bass. Thanks
