Growing up, my best friends Mother's Boss owned a 1st generation SLK. It was quite stunning at the time. So much technology packed into such a small package. In 2001 he drove it to prom while I drove my Uncles brand new Lincoln Navigator. Two more diametrically opposed vehicles hardly existed.
Mercedes is the coolest company because of their heritage program where they keep the classic parts from being obsoleted. Their collection of vintage manufacturing jigs and plans is quite impressive I've got Harleys from the 00s with parts already obsolete and out of stock within their network
Best car I’ve owned so far was an old W203 Sport Coupé with a manual gearbox. I’ve always loved cars and driving but that thing took it to a whole new level! I bought in an emergency when my crap old Renault failed on me and I was desperate for wheels. I saw an ad on auto trader for this Mercedes and immediately went to view it. It was black, tiny compared to my recently deceased estate Renault Laguna, petrol and didn’t really seem to have much life left in it. It’ll do for a few months I thought and asked the dealer if I could take it for a test drive. I got in, fired her up and as soon as I hit the road I was smitten! The steering feel, the snappy gear change, the rear wheel drive (my first RWD car) and the little supercharger whine from its 1.8 kompressor motor instantly had me hooked! As a mechanic I found it much easier to work on that it’s BMW and VAG counterparts and even more fun to drive than either! I bought it and ended up keeping it for 4 glorious years until sadly last year, after moving to the coast, the salty air got the better of it and sadly it had to go to its final resting place. I learned so much about driving, it taught me to drift, heel and toe, rev match and appreciate a good steering feel! I’d have another in a heartbeat and my Dad has actually just got his first Mercedes this past weekend! I’m now in a Saab which I also adore but always in the back of my mind and deep in my heart and soul, I need another manual coupé Mercedes. Best car I’ve ever owned and I can’t wait to get another! If I could only ever drive 3 brands of cars again it would be Jaguar, Mercedes and Saab! Three very special brands that have made some criminally underrated and truly legendary cars in their time!

Can’t wait for season two of “hell’s angels: the Mayans and the chronicles of Grass, Sticks and Stones.” It’s time we understand how the latter became worldwide famous.
Honestly, having a Mercedes is worth being shamed for the whole "Hitler thing" because lets be honest, if we could ban the people who are terrible who are car enthusiasts from liking the same cars, car meets would be a lot smaller.
