Alexander Gavrilyuk's rendition of Liszt's dazzling Tarantella is nothing short of spellbinding. His fingers dance across the keyboard with breathtaking virtuosity, unleashing a torrent of cascading notes that captured the wild, frenzied energy of the tarantula's dance. Gavrilyuk's performance is a masterclass in technical command, as he navigated the work's treacherous octaves, rapid-fire scales, and thunderous chords with an effortless precision. Yet beneath the virtuosic fireworks, he also revealed the deep, underlying passion that propels this piece, infusing each phrase with a palpable intensity that held the audience rapt.
Alex is so vibrant and with feeling. At 88 yrs I have enjoyed playing Schubert/Liszt song arrangements this tarantella embraces so much of my piano life-here we go! Fillergree pages will take time, tight timing interferes with accuracy. So much to do here.I take the score up to bed it sends me off to sleep smiling ! zz
Is there a better live recording of this work out there? Even for studio recordings I can only think of a couple that are as good as (or come close to) this. There is so much passion in Gavrylyuk's playing throughout, the soft, slow, tranquil dolcissimo passages are just as impressive and captivating as the F5 tornado mayhem in the intro and finale. I say mayhem, but it is clear he has it under control. At once controlled and unbridled, such a unique performance from a fantastic talent. We are lucky to witness such genious playing. Thank you to meesterpianisten for the upload and to messires Liszt and Gavrylyuk for the music!
Well, he must have been pretty pleased with that performance. Beyond the fingers, more variety and color than you're likely to hear anywhere else. It's so rare to hear anyone carry their level of musicality up to that of their technique. It usually evaporates with the last few notches on the metronome.
Outstanding rendition, played with dazzling virtuosity yet tender poetry. Gavrylyuk did Liszt a lovely compliment. Bravo!
The more I see this guy the more convinced I am that he is one of the most outstanding artists on the planet!!
Absolutely! Saw him play last night here in Melb. Outstanding performer.
Watch him play Toccata Filipenko, mind blowing
Did you listen to his Rach III
@@i.ehrenfest349 Yes. Awe inspiring!
@@paulackerley1652 listened to the UA-cam one in the Concertgebouw, but some people say the one with the bbc proms was better. What d’you reckon?

Great interpretation.
My only criticism is that he rushes into each phrase too much. Sone breathing room would be great
You played it better in the Horowitz competition
