By "Master at Arms", you mean "Man at Arms" was Teela's adoptive father, right? As for the prologue to the video, the fans of most franchises really don't care if the protagonists are black, white, yellow, red, or "brown" as you put it. Fans like well-written and thoughtful characters whose ethnicity is simply part of their backstory, not their main (and in many modern creations, only) identifying characteristic. Asking us if we're excited about someone based on the color of their skin is racist, it doesn't matter what the actual color is. Similarly, asking if we're excited because of a character's gender is sexist. The same goes for lifestyle, orientation, and bedroom proclivities. Fans enjoy good characters because they're good characters - the sum of ALL their details.
It's not pandering if there's an audience. If there is no interest they won't do it, because that's a loss of money. Obviously there's an audience since the show is successful.
When did a quest for equality become an imperative to be portrayed as superior? And I'm certain that as simple and commonsense a question as that will still engender its share of vitriol, derision, and dismissal
There was one thing I always found funny about Cheetara. The Animators must have loved her as much as the Fans. Watch the intro. She has about as much screen time (with the exception of Lion-o) as Panthro, Tygra, and The Thunderkittens, and where the others look like they were drawn with crayons, she looked like she was drawn by Renaissance Painters. They put a lot of effort into her design...
First of all females have been kicking ass since the 50s when Irish McCullah started playing Sheena Queen of the Jungle. Lynda Carter, Lindsay Wagner, and the women of Charlies Angels were kicking but with style and class. Modern female heroes are skanks with no class, especially Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman along with Natalie Portman as Jane Foster and Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie.
@@ryanbrown938 I never saw the original Voltron, watched the new one about 3 years ago and it was a lot of fun to watch. My favourite character was Pidge, that loyalty to her principles and to her family made her great. I recently Watch Avatar: The Last Airbender too and that was great, wholesome messages, wholesome characters and an amazing story.
@@jamesabernethy7896 maaaaaaan..... if you can find the original series... I HIGHLY SUGGEST that you indulge!!! Granted, as a person whom have seen this and the vehicle team Voltron when they were new, you are gonna be blown away by the story lines and character development of that era... You won't be disappointed
Normally your videos are great but I gave a dislike. The could have been an awesome video if woke ideologies hadn't been shoehorned into the script. There have always been strong female characters in cartoons, TV and movies. Remind us... how well are those comics and cartoons you mentioned at the start doing? Selling off the shelves like hotcakes? Getting raving reviews are they? Or are they going woke and going broke?
So, who here thinks would make a great Cheetarah Live action style? Please feel free to comment. Ryan Reynolds will be Liono. Confirmed. Cheetarah was always my favorite of the '80s.
For the record, while Adora definitely has a more interesting backstory, Adam isn't pampered at all. That's a facade. Adam takes his role as He-man as seriously as Adora does as She-ra. I am honestly waiting for Adora and Adam to be reunited on screen.
ahhhh praise all those females that forged our needs to become a true Man someday praise the ones such our adorable CHEETARA, SHE-RA, RED SONJA, TYRIS FLARE SYPHA BELNADES etc of course Spiderwoman is very underrated but i can say the same for about 20 ultra inspiring X-MEN GIRLS the Vast endless universe of Valkyries
I posted my own message a moment ago saying something similar. In terms of movies, we had Ripley in 1979 and Sarah Connor in 1984. Now what do we have... Rey and a dozen other Mary Sue's.
@@damedan9389 I love all the old Bond movies. They're not perfect but they are totally story and character drive. A lot of the Bond Girls were attractive, but they were also gutsy and capable. I'm not a massive horror buff, but Bond Girl is like the Last Girls of horror, it's a moniker that so many of them are proud of and one that is so misunderstood. I also can't help getting stuff of the Columbo and Quincy TV era, out of my head. They probably did put some effort into diverse casting in terms of gender and race, but no group was always the baddie or the weakling. Everyone got a chance to shine. Diverse casting but diverse characters too. Today, they keep stumbling at the second hurdle.
@@jamesabernethy7896 that's the problem with these leftist constantly saying "always" and "never". They are the ones minimizing things. I once heard Ms Weaver make the same statements and screaming "what, were you asleep your whole career?" Her entire career is based on her not being arm candy of a damsel in distress. In fact, she saved more men than men saved her; alien 3 and resurrection are PRIME examples. Ask ANY male gamers and they'll tell you they picked or liked the female fighting characters most. The problem with channels like this one is, these people are not knowledgeable about the companies or industries they comment in and make defamatory statements like he did. Those not living at those time periods will believe and repeat these statements.
Forced diversity in entertainment is not entertaining. When it comes to female characters in shows, you need to take a look at who the target audience was. Tough but feminine women are interesting but masculine female characters are not.
At the time of the original G1 Transformers show Primus was not a thing. Therefore Unicron was an unknown and could not be the Eternal enemy of their Creator God.
Great video. Really well written and narrated. Many of these videos sounds weird, like they were written and narrated by AI, but this one was clearly made by talented humans!
All cartoons of the 80s where better than They are now, the storylines are great and the art work was still very good. Cartoons now are to woke and some of the storylines are a joke. I'm 53 and still watch cartoons and read comics, stay nerdy everyone
Lol they was drinking the kool aid hard on this one. Like cant you celebrate the heroines without constantly putting down the heroes? I think this presenter is one of the better ones which is the only reason why the video wasnt completely unbearable.
As an action figure collector I'm now starting to focus on female characters of different cartoon series, and majority of the female characters you mentioned are also in my hunt list. Hopefully some toy company will make a Princess Ariel (from Thundarr) with today's action figure stamdard. Great topic, keep 'em coming... 👍
23:30 The character design for Firestar could be confusing at first because in her civilian clothes she bore a very strong resemblance to the 80's comic book depiction of Mary Jane Watson, just with a somewhat different hair color. When I first saw the cartoon I remember thinking "Wait, when did Mary Jane get super powers and start dating Iceman?" until her real name was mentioned and it became obvious this was a different character.
You said now we're getting into real badass territory after you had done Baroness, Evil-lyn and Cheetara? Those were your three biggest badass characters. Teela was shrill, Adora was gullible, and though they were both arguably heroic, neither was badass.
That's crazy how the 80's version of teela was built like a woman and not a NFL linebacker.
Filmation was the master of rotoscoping. They traced actual human beings.
Hahahahahah yeah a playboy bunny
I always thought Baroness was the hottest female villain of the 80's action cartoons other than Evil-Lyn from He-Man.
Well she is built like an adult film star.
Fun fact: Not excited for Ms Marvel.
Likewise. Looks cringy
😂
You guys excited for Ms. Marvel or what ??
SAID NO ONE EVER.
I haven't watch that crap. To me the real and true Ms. Marvel will always be Carol Danvers and not Kamala Khan.
clicked just because Baroness was on the thumbnail

Not excited for Mrs. Marvel not gonna lie. Artificially inflated numbers not going to sway me.
The characters being made now ARE NOT DIVERSE. ITS JUST PANDERING. You know it. Ms MARVEL is just the most recent offender.
It's not pandering if there's an audience. If there is no interest they won't do it, because that's a loss of money. Obviously there's an audience since the show is successful.
Had a Big Crush On Firestar From Spiderman and His Amazing Friends Thank goodness Marvel made her canon
so Scarlett from GI Joe doesnt count then?

Wilykit is also a female Thundercat!
Mila as cheetara ?? Nah
She-ra better than he-man?? Nah
No

I agree. I like Scarlett far more than Lady Jaye

this video is really bad
Normally their videos are consistently really good. I gave this a dislike because of the forced ideologies.
You should do one of the 90's, but you guys do, you would have to include Black Arachnia and Airracer from Beast Wars.
They should make a ThunderCats game and u have the ability to use the main characters including Snarf and unlock the second group

I watched every single one of these cartoons growing up except for She-Ra which for some reason didn't air in my hometown..
