Actually, the bubble gimmick (where Sonic gets inside a bubble) is from Sonic 2 on Game Gear! The developers (Christian Whitehead and Headcannon) went to even the most obscure handheld Sonic games to get gimmicks and references from! xD
The blue ring box transforms the rings you have into bigger rings so when you get hit you can have the big rings to collect instead of having to collect smaller rings.
2:35 - 2:43 GEEZ, I got so tense there, in the way only the Sonic drowning music can achieve. 5:45 - 5:58 AGAIN, MY HEART. 6:20 - 6:34 Aaand it finally happens. "It's scary, man!" Indeed. I don't know if Sonic underwater levels will ever not make me tense. Even in games where you can get an air necklace or something, my brain is still like "YOU NEED TO GET AIR, QUICK-oh, wait no you don't." :p 19:53 DURING A BOSS. REALLY. (I'm liking how unique the bosses in this are, though) Sidenote: Scuba Eggman is adorable. XD
I know I'm late, but if you wanna use the insta-shield, you have to go to no-save, and then press X. That brings up a menu that allows you to select debug mode, &a knuckles mode, or what game's move set you use (cd: super peel-out 3: insta-shield mania: drop-dash) also it doesn't save your game. Hence the name, no-save.
Go to no save mode secrets debug mode or / and 3&k hold X or whatever button in place of X for like 10 seconds then press start then you get to the level select of sonic mania.
9:05 main issue you keep failing that one is you don't just go straight from the start and just turn instead. the beginning isn't really the hardest part of that stage, it is near the end where it gets challenging. you do have the right idea of jumping over reds onto the yellows, but you don't really go on the intended route through that stage.
The blue ring are like time trials that you can faster like speed run the level but you have to start the level again but going faster by time, that's what i heard

I love the return of the washer machine boss on this stage, such a throw back from the first one in the game... and 21:28 lol at Tails glitching as the water level lowers xD

Yeah, and a little luck for that particular stage, truthfully. There's only 1 right way to do it, unlike the majority of other bonus stages. You have to follow the path perfectly, or you are going to red out everytime. I hated that stage so much, and it still makes me twitch when I have to complete it on every replay through 3&K. XD And perfecting it is even worse, as you have to leave the path to get the rings.

For solving the bonusstage at 9:05 you just need to run forward. You can beat the whole stage with only pressing right and jump!
