Hi Neil Yes, the bricks is ontop of the lintels. Just normal pavers, I don't believe in firebricks, no issue whatsoever & it is wY to expensive. Normal cement yes. It's simple but effective. Enjoy your build!!
Hello Hein. We would like to build something similar in our backyard. Do you have the measurements you used for the braai (either in brick widths / lengths or centimetres)? Is there a particular measurement you need to use to ensure the chimney draws well? Cheers Stuart
