Band kid here. This is definitely true in a lot of cases, it really depends on what kind of director you have. But yeah, the reason they will conduct like this in marching band is because it's all about having high energy. And when they make larger motions on a downbeat, it typically means that there's either a big hit or it's the start of a new phrase in which a section is added, so that way the band can get cues for where they are. That's just my somewhat brief explanation on it lol.
The expression is on point. They be looking like “you miss that cue, I’ll make sure you’ll never have a career with instruments again” when facing the band but when it’s time to face the audience they be looking like a proud parent “look what I made y’all, ain’t they talented, I did that” all teeth and shining eyes 🤣🤣

When I was in third grade and we used to do band and singing in front of all the parents ,literally all she would do is wave her hands around like we understood what that meant
Being from in a marching band I can say in vouch that this is f****** true every time something big happened when we were playing the directors always just swing in their hands up in the air so dramatically
My Band Teacher repeats the parts we mess up and starts the song from the beginning and stops at the part we messed up on, and moves on to the next piece. I really don’t get to learn anymore of the song.
My band teacher actually explained his arm signs once so this is extra funny cuz its close enough but not quite and just exaterates the ultra concentration on the face lol
I swear they be doing the most, when the music piece has like a big part where’s is loud they have to pick up there arms so big like I feel like that’s so extra 😂
It’s funny I thought they just did that😂but when I was in 6th grade I joined band ( I play the flute ) and the actually do that to show you the tempo of how fast you’re supposed to play the song and they do different hand things to tell a certain instrument to like play louder or to bring your noise down or something like that but it does look pretty funny when they do that😂
I’ve been doing this shit for four years and I still can’t tell wether they do it because they hyped or because the way the band is playing is making them mad as hell.

Agreed. I was a sax player so I sat in the back so I never saw them well but when I did the cues were helpful
same as a section leader of a drum line is for us to now how to level the sound
Band directors take all of their anger out on the air
Lol this is so relatable. And the thing is nobody actually pays attention to the band director
legit i never looked at my band teacher once
There not supposed to pay attention to the director, the director leads the song guiding the musicians what to do.
@@Dk_Thefirst no they are not
normally they would have to look at their sheet music
Exactly
Only good directors do this. It shows they love their job and they’re really getting into the music
It makes him feel like he has power after the inside pain of that job.
why is this so true OMG! they just got so much passion. if that’s what you should call it
As a percussionist at my school band, this is very very true.
same plus i play snare but my music teacher would tell horn sections the most stuff.

So true even when we practice a song the band director looks pissed from all the way in the back row so i stop playing.

they gotta be more aggressive then a cod player

They make it way more dramatic than it really is
