  • To Sandra Petojevic the world appears differently than it does to most people. She has Asperger syndrome, and her "unusual" ways of interpreting and expressing feelings has shown her how official misconduct, intolerance and prejudices can ruin things and lead to conflicts. Sandra works with nautical chart correction but has also published a fantasy trilogy -- simply because writing is her way of coping with reality. Her books offer new perspectives and show that there are many ways of looking at the world.

    I like the way you use you fantasy novel as a projection of how real life can be experienced. I experience the culture clash every day myself. The way you use the metaphor of the quest maybe helps tightening the gap between the culture of the analytical and creative brain (what the following brainowners call autism or Aspergers ;-) l and the socialising verbal brain! As an 'Aspie'/Tedxperformer myself I can only encourage this way of coming foreward and speaking out. Thank you so much.

    This is interesting but I'm looking for information so that I can help my teenage daughter and I can't find anything online that has offered any information on what I can do for her. I adore my daughter just the way she is but I worry for her future and I want to find some help. If anyone reading this can lead me in the right direction I would be eternally grateful.

      Robin Love Greetings,
      I'm a young man with asperger syndromof 21 years old, and i'm willing to share you what i can tell from my short experience in life. You'd still better assk for a multitude of people and make your own mind about it. I'm glad i can help in my tiny measure.
      My life has been very troublesome in this society because of misunderstanding.
      I could tell you thousands of words about my life but it wouldn't give you a proper response.
      What i can tell you that would surely help is this :
      my difference wasn't assumed by the people around me, and this caused painful, years-lasting prejudice against me,
      until at last 1 of my parents made the decision to actually try and do something different to their different child.
      What i want to say is that, as the autisme spectrum is *very* large, there is no exact precautions to take.
      And you cannot handle by yourself the whole situation of your daughter. You have to expect new things everyday, and your job will be to act in the most graceful way possible for your child to grow up.
      It means that you'r supposed to try something, and if it does not work, try something else, or at least make an attempt.
      Theses attempts will met the untolerance of society. For me, it was the lack of different schools for different childs. And the lack of people mature enought to notice when a boy keeps suffering at school everyday, when learning is suposed to be fun.
      I will not lie to you, you'll have to work to make the special place your daugther needs, because, if her mind really is different, she will have trouble in this society as it is today. Don't expect everything to go nice,
      but you will as well be pleasantly surprised to see you can still find the needed places and people, they do exist. Your job is to love your dauhter and to look for the most appropriate settings you can give her.
      It's life, it's can't be easy, but if your do your job, you will protect her from the blinded harm of the untolerant people of this society. She will simply have a different startup in life, but if you manage to make her feel good, she'll solve the equation of her life by herself, and you, and everyone else around, will be suprised by the size of her wingspan when she'll feel confident enought to unfold them.
      You have to keep making researchs, and understand things as much as you can, as it is misunderstanding that will cause prejudice to your daugther. Find people that can understand her difference. Do not try to change the world for her, and do not try to change her to better fit the world, because that's what my dad tryed, and it hurted me so bad years after years.

      +Robin Love There are many ways to deal with Aspergers and other forms of Autism, as someone with Aspergers myself and working with people having it, I must say that the biggest help that you can give is to be supportive and lending a helping hand when needed. To be there when your daughter needs it. I know that those words are so general that it applies to anyone, but it's just as simple to listen to her and being there to help, letting her shape her reality for herself with you as a role model. Helping her to understand that there is nothing wrong with her and that she should be happy to be different, there are many things that people with Asperger's Syndrome can have as symptoms, and some things are easier to cope with than others, both for you, your daughter and the rest of society.
      You may be able to alleviate some of these "problems" by asking the psychiatrist that diagnosed her for information, they know quite a lot on the subject, at least they should. Help her find what she likes and support her, for pure information about Asperger's there should be some online forums for that. I never really use them as I basically lived at the Psychiatrist for 7 years before they diagnosed me, my dad is a professional speaker in the subject and in my nation we have a somewhat good support for people with Autism.
      My best tip would be learn Swedish, move to Sweden and get as much professional help as you can.
      It's a shit country in many other ways, but at least the psychiatrist are somewhat decent.

    She doesn't explain (to me) very well what she is getting to until the end (so watch the whole thing). From what i understand, her message is this: She based her book series off of her experiences as an aspie (someone with Aspergers Syndrome) and used them as a tool to help express the way that see views the world. I believe what her presentation means to say is, this trilogy offers a great insight into how aspies view the world around them.

      Du får börja titta på Manga/Anime serier, då alla är textade till Engelska och fattar man inte vad de säger, så finns Google/Translito,,, sen kan du Engelska flytande

      I så fall kann jag ha nytta av min engelska kunskap. Å andra sidan kan svenska kunder hos oss missförstå mig förs, för att sedan förstå mig. För information så kan jag nämna att jag hör till finlandssvenskar som är 5% i Finland. Så egentligen är min engelska inte så bra som ni vill få det till.

    • @tolvfen
      @tolvfen 9 років тому

      Oj bara 5% , i Sverige kan i princip alla finska, men ingen av dem fascineras av något alls,,,

    • @ingfre1000
      @ingfre1000 9 років тому

      Stämmer inte. Dock stämmer det att det finns en finsk radio station i etern i Sverige. Dessutom flyttar många finlandssvenskar till Sverige. Så egentligen minskar antalet då i Finland. Så vi lär inte mer vara 5% Men då får vi yngla av oss för att råda bot på detta flyttande. Känner ett fall då en har flyttat till Sverige, mannen som blev accepterad lär sig inte finska. Så vi gick miste om en finlandssvensk på detta sätt. Men jag blir kvar här i Finland. Dessutom så har vi inte datapott på bil data. Så någonting är bättre i varje fall.

      ***** Some do try to be, whether others think they're only mimicking what they see studying other people or not. Just as those who don't have Aspergers/Autism like interacting with people or don't like interacting with people.
