Types of Guitars
As you probably already know, guitars come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Guitars can be acoustic, with steel or nylon strings, and are perfect for players and songwriters. Electric guitars are available in different body styles and woods, and offer different tones depending on the genre of music you wish to play. Then there are semi-hollowbody (sometimes called “semi-acoustic”) guitars for people that want the deep sound of an acoustic guitar with the option to amplify it like you would an electric guitar. Most guitars have six strings, but there are 12-string acoustic and electric guitars, as well as some contemporary 7-string and 8-string guitars. The ukulele, a small 4-string instrument with a bright and wispy tone, and the mandolin and banjo even fall in this category.
Electric Guitar
Electric guitars are used in many styles of music including rock, blues, country, jazz, funk, and more. Electric guitars feature pickups and electronics that turn the vibration of the strings into an electrical signal that is then sent to a guitar amplifier. Some popular electric guitars include the Fender Stratocaster and Telecaster, and the Gibson Les Paul and SG. Acoustic Guitar
If you’ve ever sung around a campfire, it was likely with an acoustic guitar. Acoustic guitars produce their sound naturally using the vibration of the strings and resonance of the body to create sound in the air. The guitar top, or soundboard, is a finely crafted and engineered element often made of spruce, cedar, or mahogany. The back and sides of an acoustic guitar are typically made from mahogany, sapele, rosewood, or maple. Acoustic guitars are truly a work of art, thanks to the talented luthiers that build them.

I've purchased plenty of guitars from Sweetwater via. Drew Foster Sales Engineer and one thing I didn't see in this video is a service that Sweetwater offers which is over and above the 55-Point inspection: "Guitar Setup". I have that done for every new guitar I purchase from Sweetwater...

@@deejay7339 Hey, GC has a very similar process to Sweetwater! There's a guy that opens a box in the back of a store and he'll look at the guitar for at least 30 seconds and then he'll take it out and put it up on a shelf. Gibson's and flagship Fenders go so high up you need binoculars to see them, Epiphones are at the bottom (that's some real organization). Sweetwater rules, GC, not so much.

As relatively new customer of Sweetwater, my only regret was not purchasing from them much sooner. I was blown away by great customer service. Price matches best from Amazon. Fast speed of shipping matches Amazon. Difference is, aside from amazing customer service, Sweetwater packages items with much care...very unlike Amazon where I buy toothbrush and cat food. Having been (past tense) one who was hesitant to buy a guitar online, Sweetwater has, twice, exceeded my expectations.
I am very fussy about neck shape, playability, resonance, intonation and action height. With my Gibson Les Paul Traditional Pro, I wanted a specific string height and we discussed the neck shape (I can’t play really thin necks, my hands are too big), I asked how the guitar sounded unplugged (even over the phone I could hear projection and note sustain. In a nutshell, I received that 1 in 100, sweet, awesome and other good slang words, guitar!! The other (PRS) guitar is also incredible. There is no reason to shy away from buying a guitar from Sweetwater!! Be clear in what you’re looking for and they’ll be 100% straight with you about what they have available for your needs.
By the way, the guitars were setup exactly how I requested (string height, proper pickup height, brand of strings I requested, etc.). From Sweetwater, to my house,, time for temperature stabilization, right to a 3 hour gig (no break in or test beforehand), it was a very pleasant experience and great 1st gig with those guitars (as were all subsequent gigs)!
That's an impressive process and sure beats just sending out guitars in the original unopened manufacturer's box without checking at all.
Amazing job guys, and then on top of that you have great customer service. I still remember the day you sent me the full resolution pictures of the guitar I bought, a little detail that means a lot.

Love SWEETWATER! I was skeptical about buying a guitar I played on line. Was looking at a Rickenbacker 360 in Fireglo. Was looking around and by chance emailed SWEETWATER. My only gripe with them is every single time I go to order a guitar from them there outa stock, like hey I’ll see type A guitar or a couple months go by a I’ll see a type B and still outa stock definitely frustrating cuz I have to turn and order from other companies that I don’t like as much :/ but besides that I love SWeetWater . Just wish there better at ordering more guitars to have in stock

Bought 16 Guitars from Sweetwater so far. I never worried about shipping damage. The guitars are double boxed with foam or plastic insulation in between each layer. 16 guitars! and not a single issue. All of them play great. Thanks Sweetwater, KP

seriously it might look like the comments are rigged or hyperbole, but no, these guys really are that good. My sales engineer and even the president himself contacted me in the past to help me with a problem I had. You can tell how good a company is when things DON'T go as planned and these guys really are as good as the hype.
SO super impressed, they've always made me feel like a valuable customer. Calling after the sale just to see if I like the gear, and so on.
Like them so much that even though I live 20 minutes from another major guitar retailer I'd rather, and DO, do business with Sweetwater instead.

I haven't bought much from Sweetwater for awhile since I went back to fiddling but, I started missing a guitar. Once I thought about a new guitar, this is where I decided. I'm going to buy a Gretsch Streamliner hollowbody. I fell in love with it and email Sweetwater and a very helpful gentleman named Drew emailed back quickly. After asking a few questions, I was sold. I'm buying it next week and I have my eye on a Fender Champion 40 that I saw Brian demonstrate on youtube. I'll get that next month.
Thank god I kept my little Silvertone amp until I get the Fender. Be gentle with my baby guys after you get the order! 😁
Love Sweetwater and how they follow up with their customers. It's nice to know they care when you get that courtesy call to check up on your purchase. Just wish their payment plan would compete with ZZounds and AMS. It would make things easier on musicians that are not making money due to the epidemic.

Why do I buy from Sweetwater since 1990 something? Details. They work the details. From my furniture to my multi track whatever to anything I create with or enjoy. Sweetwater is always on point. I have never been disappointed with my experience. When you get down to it, it all matters. I visit stores and sure I touch and feel the guitar no doubt. But when I ask the basic questions, I feel there is something missing. Commitment is the big one. I want to feel what I buy I keep and create and enjoy for years to come, not just a splash in the pan flavor of the week. I am looking at a Les Paul for my first guitar. I want something nice but nothing to be just too much, but not one that I lose interest in a month. This furthering music journey. I have been playing musical instruments for many years, but guitar is a return from 2000. I miss it, and want to get back in. I am sure Sweetwater Sound will make my journey a little easier to say the least.

Just got an Ltd arctic metal delivered and it was in below sub par condition. I mean i understand its a mid tier guitar but any guitar that cost $1000 and up should come with a nice soft case at least. Ive bought two $500 guitars by Ltd and both came with really nice soft cases. But i can say they are on top of their game when it comes to making things right 💪🏻

I guess I'm the only one that had bad luck. Bought a EVH Wolfie Std. and pretty much all of the hardware was loose, and my volume don't work rite. I love my guitar and don't want to part with it to send it back to be fixed. I figure I'll buy upgraded volume and tone pots and when I install them it'll be fixed in the process. I'll still shop sweetwater, I just hope I don't get the lazy bad apple inspector next time. 🤘

It would be interesting to know if expensive guitars take just a liiiiiittle bit longer to get through the process than inexpensive ones. For example, if I opened a box and found a Taylor Presentation Series guitar in it, I might have to spend some extra time making sure everything is juuuuuuust perfect!

Just received one of your "55 point inspected'' guitars for Christmas. You guys need to fire whoever is doing the inspecting. This video tells the entire tale. Please add an option to skip the inspection. It would be a more honest approach than putting it through that process and calling it an inspection.

My first experience with Sweetwater was terrible a few months back when I bought my Gibson SG. There's no way it went through the rigorous inspection that was just showed. I ended up coming to a compromise with the sales engineer so when I decided I wanted the new Marshall sv20h head I gave Sweetwater a second chance only for the sales guy (not the same guy) to be rude cause he thought I was taking too long so needless to say I bought the head somewhere else. I was so pissed I wrote Chuck an email but decided against sending it cause I may give them one last chance but I haven't decided yet. I'm just sharing this because videos like this one is the reason I went with sweetwater but in the end my experience was nowhere near what is shown in the video.

Awesome, but... 1. how can you adjust string height, if tuning is the last step? 2. The pick I want to see is the neck, from the player's perspective. Neck thickness is the most important thing to me, because I can change almost everything else. I simply am not going to buy an axe with a fat neck:) Having said all that, Sweetwater is BY FAR, THE BEST COMPANY I ever dealt with:)
It's tuned, adjusted, then detuned for the photos (the keys are set flat for the photo... called "photo tuning"), then after photo it is re-tuned, detailed and each note checked a second time. I hope that helped add clarity.

Wait so the guy weighing the guitar tuned it, but it was super off before he did. So earlier they check the setup and everything with the guitar way out of tune?
You've got an eye for detail! The video didn't show every little step of the process. The guitars are "photo-tuned" for photography... all the tuner keys are lined up to be fully visible to the camera. Check out the photos on Sweetwater.com... they'll all be that way. So they get detuned for photography (to look pretty), then retuned before reboxing.

Every Gibson I have ever bought from Sweetwater in the past arrived with bad string buzz and some factory blemishes to some degree... I'm not fully blaming Sweetwater, with a robust and high tech inspection process in place or not , if these guitars leave Gibson that way, then there is not much Sweetwater can do other than schedule the guitar for a free Plek service. I don't fully blame Sweetwater, I just blame Gibson more...
