Yeah the only reason people don’t recognize this is because they over pronounce each syllable. They say “R- Re- Sue” which is too harsh It’s quite literally almost exactly like Alice cause the su is almost silent. “Ah-LRi-suh” (l and R sound cause Japan don’t really have words that prompt them to use the strong L sound)
Like many of these suspense/survival shows, it's easy for the audience to say "gang up on him!" but when you're actually IN the game itself with just panic and adrenalin to fuel you, every one of us would instinctively be running away from the bullets. It's human nature.
Agreed. I don't mind having that thought in the heat of the moment but a lot of reactors call it bad writing when it's literally natural. I mean imagine getting transported into another world with nobody of your friends or family around and then you have to play a death game. I think having guns in this makes it so much worse for everybody who's not from the US cuz like we don't know how to deal with that. I'd be absolutely terrified
Yes, Arisu is Alice, Chishiya (blondie with taser) is The Cheshire Cat, Usagi means white rabbit in Japanese so that’s her and you’re right the queen of hearts is in this game. So is the mad hatter and so is the blue caterpillar, both of which you’ll meet later on
It's the real deal both as language goes and as narrative goes, Arisu is the equivalent here to Alice, the girl that Hman likes its the equivalent to the white rabbit (her surname means rabbit too), and this new character with white hair that you don't know the name yet is the Cheshire cat. When the Mad hater shows up you gonna know immediately, who the queen of hearts is, is one of the main misteries of the first season so I won't tell and I wonder if you can spot the caterpillar when they show up... ☺️ I'm kinda of an Alice in Wonderland nerd😅 loved this series and loving the reactions ☺️
In Japanese there’s no “l” so anything written with l turns to an r. Western names are written in katakana as they sound. Furthermore, the language is syllabic, with some exceptions. Therefore, a name like Alice, as it sounds would be alis. Turn the l into an r and add a u at the end because you can’t have a single s sound (syllabic system), and you get Arisu. Also, Usagi means bunny, so she’s the bunny that Alice is always chasing after.
The tag game is completely a lose-lose situation for the taggers. The group won, so the taggers got sploded, but if they lost the taggers would still have died since they're the building that's going to explode.
Yeah I absolutely love this adaptation bc they changed a lot but didn't take away anything from the characters and their development. However, one of the most crucial things is the fact that Arisu's speciality is heart games. You'd expect it to be diamonds since he's smart but his biggest skill is his psychological strength. People end up betraying each other in every kind of game, I'm sad they really just changed it like that for the adaptation.
I just finished S2 a few days after it released and I'm so invested in watching your reaction on these. I hope we'll get em all!! It's such a good show!
@@willwhite6110 tbh i didnt mind the other changes they made with this game like having the two taggers as it added a lil bit more action n drama but if we talking the rest of the season 1- theres one or two changes which i question
@@pajo_ The biggest problem I have with the adaption is that they put the entire focus on Arisu, skipping all the side characters and putting him in games that he actually didn't even participate in.
@@Gamer-g2v1r I think they focus on a few main cast of characters instead of many. They want us to emotional invest in those characters and play with our emotion, like the S02 ep 7 fight. no one has explained it but okay in Japanese there is no L sound equivalent, it's difficult to explain if you haven't looked into it but it's effectively a breaking point between the Latin inspired English Language and the Pre-Chinese Kanji inspired Asian system. So Alice can't exist in Japanese as "Al" doesn't exist It's broken down into two different pronunciations "Ari" and "Su" as those are the closest in Japanese it can sound like Alice. To go into minor detail Japanese Vowels aren't pronounced the way you pronounce them This is how the Japanese pronounce the Vowel sounds. A = Ah I = Ee (E sound is elongated) U = Oo (same here) E = Eh O = Oh Combinations of those ways of saying the vowel sounds in Japanese combine with Consonants to make the ways they speak Sa = S-ah Se = Shi-ee (funny one that as they have the elongated S sound for the S consonant) Su = S-oo Se = S-Eh So = S-oh
It's true that most of the main characters represent alice in wonderland characters. some are more obvious than others so I wont mention the ones you haven't met yet, but arisu represents alice, usagi is the white rabbit, and chishiya is the cheshire cat.
There are 2 reasons why Arisu is Alice in Japanese. First, the L sound doesn't exist, so it is replaced with R. This would make the name be Arice instead of Alice. Second, Japanese alphabets consist of a consonant sound + a vowel sound. The s sound (The "ce" in Alice) is translated as such, but it needs a vowel with it. They picked U, so without the L-t-R modification, it sounds like Alicu (Ah-lee-sue). Put together, they sound like Arisu (Ah-ree-sue). I think Arisa (Ah-ree-sah) or Arise (Ah-ree-say) would have been more accurate translations, but I only know English and didn't make the show, so what do I know?
I would recommend not reading any comments until you hit the end of season 2. You will find all the answers by the time, but people can be douchbags and spoil you many amazing surprises

It's really stupid if you think about this game. The "horses" are screwed because they die either way. If they 'lose', they blow up because their collars are set to explode. Ya, since the Japanese language doesn't naturally have the L sound, they just use R instead. i.e. Laughtale/Raughtale in one piece.
