Pairing up a remote control

Any suggestions what to do if the curtain motor wont pair with the remote (YR2116)? I can get the motor into program mode (solid red light), but it wont recognize the remote (with a flashing red light), when the remote is placed in program mode (by selecting channel and then pressing pinhole on reverse of remote).
Remote batteries are new, channel changer LED's etc function normally...I've tried unplugging the motor, and also deleting the transmitter/re-adding it. Thanks
