I for one have always been an anti-Floyd Rose guy. So I've always liked Eddie's guitars whether the old superstrats, Music Man or either of the two types of Wolfgang guitars in terms of their pick ups, the playability of the necks and the aesthetics and colors/finishes. I've always looked for non-FLoyd versions because I hate FR trems though. I wish EVH would put out at least a couple hardtail Woflgang models again.
That decked floyd behave like a fixed bridge if u don't push the bar down. Locking sistem does help in tuning stability. Evh guitar surprisingly have more sustain compared to my fixed bridge guitar 😅
@@nafis6668 pain in the ass to change strings on, still sometimes go out of tune like conventional guitars, and if the fine tuners are already screwed in to the limit you need to unscrew the nut to tune the strings the old way. @@bozeeke i hope u tried eddie's guitar, because once all strings stretched and locked, no problem with fine tuner range. locking sistem eliminate string slippage , hence more stable and longer tuning stability with that decked floyd rose.
@@nafis6668 I owned Floyd Rose loaded guitars EVH, Peavey and others and hate them. All but one of my current VH style guitars have no floyd. I have a Kramer with a fender style trem bridge, an early 2010's EVH Wolfgang with a tune-a-matic and a Sterling Axis (based on Eddie's guitar from the early 90s) which also is a non-floyd version. Floyd's are not for me. As a VH fan I wish EVH had a couple of non-Floyd models again.
@@bozeeke You might be able to find a decent hardtail MIJ Wolfgang Special on a site like reverb that is in really good/near mind condition. And you get those stainless steel frets, too.
There are still a few classic EVH guitars they haven't re-issued yet. I'm hoping we get an EVH version of the Rasta guitar. Eddie gifted the guitar to Dweezil Zappa at one point. There are some videos of Dweezil playing the guitar.
I think it would be cool to see more striped guitars but with different colour schemes, when it comes to EVH stripes, the variations are endless. And I would also love to see the Birdseye maple and stainless steel frets make a return, been playing my Wolfgang Special since 2011 and still no other guitar I’ve ever played like it🤟🏼 With that being said, I think I’m gonna try and get the new Tobacco burst for myself and maybe get the new Purple Special for the wife
I played a standard yesterday at guitar center, those pickups were the best sounding out of all the guitars I tried. Fantastic playability, I'm getting one.
Wolfgang is running EVH and I read an interview recently and they are gonna be releasing his hollow body. He also said they are gonna be making more hard tail models along with 24 fret versions of current models of EVHs
Wolf has called the basses they use on tour the "prototypes" so I'd expect to see at least something like one of those coming out at some point, which a lot of people have actually waited for a while to see happen.
I was shocked by how the neck finish feel. It's like bare wood feel without allowing moisture in. Great neck for holding chords and lead playing. lots of snap and sustain. Clear, non flubby, mid focus pickup with good signal to noise ratio. I don't need to use noise gate with EVH guitar.
I got my first wolfgang a few weeks ago.. chlorine burst standard.. its shocking how well it played right out the box... literally as well as my $5k enns doublecut
To me I think their amps will end up their bread and butter in the future. The flagship heads are on pretty high demand. I don't see that changing unless pedal platform rigs truly take over. In which case it would be wise for evh to start producing some sort of multi channel preamp solutions. Id love to have a 3 channel evh pedal on my board. That way I can leave my el34 100 watt head safe at home and keep it in studio use condition and still have my tone wherever I go.
Great video was just researching the EVH site and your video came up The Amps are still some of the best hi gain amps out there …..they have re released almost every guitar he’s ever had in his hands and also released every version possible of the amps so it probably will slow down a touch.
EVH brand still has some cool stuff on the way. Great article out there I’m sure most have seen…. SA-126 (Wolfie’s hollowbody…can ya say 335 with Evh neck? yes please), Japan versions of his signature about half of US version, hard tails, basses (for those guys)…. I think the brand will go strong even though he’s with us in spirit. Losing Leo Fender, Les Paul, etc. didn’t kill those brands. As long as EVH continues to pump out some great stuff I’m in.
First of all : cool video, as always... BUT DUDE, Charvel is releasing a new fixed bridge So-Cal in three aweome colors ! I'm so pumped by those man ! (I'm not a trem player, and I always prefered the So-Cal rather than de San Dimas model because it looks more like an hot rodded strat !) I miss the EVH fixed bridge line of guitars by the way. At some point they were making some with TOM bridges and they looked cool.
I’d love to see a reliced version of the 5150 guitar like what they did with the Frankie and ‘78 version of the striped series. EVH and EVH gear are the best!
Ha ha, that is true…maybe they could do a MIM version in the $2k range…also, I agree with you, I would love to see a WG Special that is modeled after Eddie’s last touring WG, the reliced ivory one…I’d definitely have to get one of those!
personally i think Fender/EVH should focus on the wolfgang specials, great guitars that are still fairly affordable, they should reissue the striped wolfgangs for the Van Halen fans which i'd love to get, but they should also do hardtails aswell and expand the range of the specials. I'm not really a big fan of the replica guitars or the relic look.
I Want baked Birdseye maple neck !!!!!! The standards are more comfortable than the specials with the forearm and tummy cut (my 2 cents) Would like to see Seafoam green ? (my 2 cents) R.I.P. King Edward !!!!
I have last years model of the Wolfgang standard. If I had to give my honest opinion I wish I had gone for the Special. The reasoning is the bridge has had a lot of problems with tuning stability and string slippage. The unwound strings tend to pop out from the string block. Even the G string will slip out from time to time. I have had this problem with other Floyd Rose Specials but it is more so on the EVH branded floyd rose special. I'm now looking at getting an aftermarket Gotoh bridge for it. That being said it is an incredible sounding and playing guitar. If you have the funds go for the Special.
I feel like issuing a frankenstrat with color combinations different than what Eddie used to play might be nice for the future. As much as i try, I can't seem to like the Special shape ;(
I think the EVH brand is realistically going to become the VH brand after Wolfgang starts to take over more. The 5150 that are being offered by EVH right now cover everything Eddie wanted to do and the amps are WILDLY successful so I doubt we’d see another amp model besides a 5150 EL34 iconic, but that’s it. Besides that the guitars are going to get some new additions with the 126 or semi hollow guitar and they might do some collector thing on the 5th or 10th anniversary of Eddie’s passing, maybe an exact custom shop replica of the last guitar Eddie played live?IDK. But whatever they decide to do will be epic and I’m sure the brand will be able to continue kicking ass!
Is it bad that I kind of want a hardtail Wolfgang model???? I feel like it’s disrespectful to even speak like this about something EVH related but I’d love a hardtail bridge equipped Wolfgang
Are they "done" I don't think so. The Iconic amp and the new semi-hollow/hollow, that Wolfie has been touring with, indicate that they are moving a bit beyond classic Ed. Plus I can see some basses added to the mix too. I'm interested in seeing where they can take things - I am sure they have ideas already progressing. For re-issues, I don't think they have done a "Rasta" reissue yet, and I agree that the reliced white would sell like hot cakes. There may be some scope for hard tail Wolfies - there was the option for hard tail on the Peavey versions, although the decked Floyd on mine is very stable in its tuning. Hey, they could even blow Ray's mind an issue a silverburst Wolfie - that would pretty much outrage everyone. 🤣
The PURR-ple is cool but my hands are small and I can't deal with the thick neck profile. I have to play a thin Jackson type neck. I have played one at GC loved the look and sound but the neck is a no-go for me.
Yes, all of these guitars with a Hard Tail, String Thru, etc Love Eddie, and I know Floyds and EVH go without saying, but man; I can't stand Floyds and would love a HT EVH Strat or Wolfgang special
It was made after. The axis is EVH’s shape dating all the way back to 1991 ish with EBMM. then the Peavey Wolfgang was created in 95/96. Then the Wolfgang in 07. Hope this helps!
I think they'll try to milk it for a long time. Maybe they'll pull things and then reissue etc. Considering everything had to get his approval, they can't really do that anymore. I guess they'll sub in Wolf's approval? If so, they should put that out as a sub brand.
Hey Rey, any idea why the US models have vintage SS frets whereas all the other models have jumbo non SS? Obviously the more expensive models would have SS, but why have different sized frets?
I don’t think they’re done with new products, seems like a Wolfgang sig is in the works with that semi hollow he’s been playing for awhile. If anything, they might just be moving more towards actual new products instead of reissuing the classic stuff.
I have really mixed feelings about the Wolfgang shape, it seems like an amazing guitar, but not really to my taste. The grey standard looks cool though
Honestly bro, as an owner of 5 Wolfgang’s ( 2 MIM Specials & 3 Standards ) have no idea why they keep coming out with new models when they can’t fulfill orders from 2021? Additionally, their quality control has declined since Ed passed away. They still don’t ship in a case either, for those prices, they should automatically.
I think the only thing that will bring the brand down at this point is the name behind it. Hear me out, because it’s associated with EVH, it has to do what Eddie did. I’m very blessed and I own 2 of the 5150 III and I’m gonna get the stealth at some point soon. But at this point in time, I feel like if they tried to reinvent the wheel, it would just have to be either the same shit with a different name, or it would have to be so different that it’s something we never seen before and that could go south quickly too. The guitars are just not my thing, anyone who loves them, I hope they continue making awesome shit, but beyond that, I don’t see anything new happening just because of the name
I took the EVH wolfgang standard exotic bocote. This is a terrible guitar in terms of build, I've never seen such a crooked $800 guitar in my life. It is better to spend money but take a guitar more expensive and of high quality. At least Peavey HP2. I don't think the EVH Special is doing much better than the standard.
Wolfgang has been playing semi hollows live and his bassist has a new Evh Wolfgang bass
Yup, I saw that! Curious to see if they’re going to be made for consumers and for how much and such

With James Brown officially on board as the lead amp designer you can bet Wolfie has a new amp or amps in the works as well, can't wait!

WTF are they doing besides 'dad' guitars?!
