This was beyond helpful. Thank you so much for breaking this all down for us. I had no idea what a flirt pole was when I woke up this morning. Now I realize I need this in my life. The lunging whip is EXACTLY what I was thinking of using. So finding this video makes me feel prepared enough to start doing this with my little manz
really enjoyed this video! Your explanation and examples are brilliant. I was looking for a flirt pole video to share with my client and this illustrates the point perfectly! Thank you :)
Thank you for this I was wanting to make a flirt pole instead of ordering it. My boys are 9 10 weeks and I want them to start learning this young. This helped a lot.
That looks like a nice durable pole! Could you make a build video? I am having difficulty imagining how the swivel and other hardware fits together. Also, you said to drill a hole but does that mean that the whip pole when you cut it off is solid rather than hollow? What kind of drill bit do you need to drill through the material, etc...
thanks so much for the helpful video!! i’m very excited to start bitework with my 8 month old GSD. i figured a flirt pole would be a great place to start!
Wonderful helpful video and have started gathering my supplies as I have a mali/GSD pup who will benefit hugely from a flirt pole. Please could you explain how you joined the ring/swivel to the rounded off end of the whip handle? Thanks so much. Am about to start watching your channel and have subscribed. Love your presenting style!
Drilled a hole through the end and then added the swivel and metal ring. I then cut the metal ring in half and bent it a little bit open so it could fit through the whole in the handle. Then bent it closed and tick welded it.
You definitely have to be careful with that flirt pole because I have a 10 month old mal and she is so intense with her prey drive that she chased that thing until she literally couldn’t stand up straight. I learned my lesson the hard way about leaving them wanting more
Thank you sir for that incredibly informative video. My question is, will playing with the FP activity lead to increased aggression and unwanted prey drive?
I have a 10 week old beagle and i tried the flirt pole with her and she would NOT want to let go of rope toy at the end. Even when i waved a hot dog in front of her nose, you could tell she was really into "her prey" - at least that is how i perceive it... After i was done playing, she saw my toddler running around a little and when he fell, she basically attacked him - I'm sure playfully, no damage done other than a fright on his behalf, but when i picked her up off of him, she growled quite a bit... Is this normal behavior? What can i do? I really just want a way to tire her out, but not at the expense of making her aggressive...
Hi, the flirt pole doesn't make your dog aggressive. Chasing the rag is just a game. You should correct the puppy when it does anything towards your children that you don't like. You could also first teach the puppy to let things go, then play the game again so that you can get the pup to leave. But if the flirt pole does not work for you and your dog as a game. You could also rather do something else.
@@ourprotectiondogs ok, thank you for your response! I am used to toy breeds so having a beagle is a new experience and I just want to make sure I am not doing something that could make her aggressive in the future, so I appreciate your time in responding!
I love the idea of using a chamois cloth. Its a terrific material to introduce to my doberman puppy. Thank you.

@@mariya8290 Thank you for watching!
Love your DIY flirt pole suggestions! Good Boy! 😉
Now that I think about it, flirt sticks are just giant cat toys for dogs

How can I get my dog to stop grabbing the pole instead of the lure? he seems more interested in the pole rather than the lure
Could yall do a video on how to teach a dog to release or let go of something?
Hi Dustin, we will see what we can do...
I agree, my puppy won’t let go after she catches it.
Present another object as the dog lets go of one to bite the other say your “out” command
Thank you greatly for your time and sharing
For service dogs or pets it can be used in obedience training to teach a better impulse control

That is such a beautiful dog! 😍
Cool. I'm putting one of these together. BTW, that is how I found your channel... flirt pole
Thanks for the feedback

It will develop prey drive, that's what it's made for. It won't make your dog aggressive, it's just a chase and catch game.
@@ourprotectiondogs Thank you for prompt reply.
My mal/Dutch mix would die for her flirt pole lol

my dog just started to turn around to grab it.
My dog would rip that apart in a minute! He's a power breed and needs a power-breed type of toy. He loves to play!
You can adjust it according to the dog. You can put something like a tug at the end of the pole.
My 10 week old GSD is showing aggressive behavior towards our cat. I would really like to see how to use a flirt pole to help with that. Thanks!
Hi, unfortunately the flirt pole won't help with that, it's not what it's made for.
Wish my girl would be tired after five minutes, she has always had a HIGH prey drive. Aussie
That dog is sick
