8:20 Actually, you can hear the subspace music if you go into subspace at just the right time when invincible. Wait for subspace to boot you back out and the subspace music will keep playing when you return to the normal world until you move to another part of the level.

A similar theme is actually used in SMB 3. Don't quote me, but I believe that a version similar to the one used in SMB 3 is also used in the Japanese version of the Lost Levels.
Same with the prototype star theme in my opinion

I know that you can do the subspace music loop with a super star, but you have to make sure that you have the star ability started before the loop, and you can enjoy it until you either go into a pipe, door, or su space again. I discovered this when I was a kid playing this and never forgot how to do it

Still my favorite Super Mario Bros. game. I can remember the cartridge shortage during its release back when I was in Junior High in 1988. The Gaming Historian has the best story of "Super Mario Bros. 2". However, this is an interesting and excellent follow-up. Both videos are recommended.

I’m almost positive my mom had a prototype cart for the second game. Everytime I died I was able to change characters, I was honestly surprised to hear that wasn’t apart of the game.

That placeholder smiley face was the first time I ever seen unused content in a game. I saw the smiley face when using a game genie to hack the game back in the 90s. I mean, I didn't have a lot of games, and that's what bored kids did back then! Years later when The Cutting Room Floor came around I was happy to see the little smiley graphic had become the site's mascot.
A lot of people seem to be misinformed, so I just want to put this out there: Doki Doki Panic was originally testing ground for what could be Super Mario Bros 2. Miyamotto wanted to try a vertically scrolling Mario game, but ditched the idea when it was difficult to have to players on the screen at once. It just wasn’t found to be fun enough. Eventually this became Doki Doki Panic which was coincidentally converted to the non-Japanese version of Super Mario 2.

Actually Doki Doki Panic started out as the as the original sequel to smb with a big emphasis on vertical levels, but they couldn’t get it quite right so it was scrapped.
Then the scraps were later retooled into Doki Doki Panic to promote an event (with a little less emphasis on vertical levels)

It should be noted that SMB2's engine started as the engine for a canceled SMB sequel that was then repurposed (and stabilized) into the engine for Doki Doki Panic.
Regarding the thing you said in the beginning of the video, yes it is indeed true that the main reason why Mario two in the West Was different because the original was too hard, Doki Doki Panic was originally going to be a Mario game at the very start.
Begin development as a experimental platformer for Mario where he goes up vertically have asa new game mechanic. Halfway through development however Nintendo signed a deal with a Japanese radio company to make a game based off of their IP. Instead of continuing the Mario game they instead reskinned the game into Doki Doki Panic. This is why there is a few Mario references in Doki Doki Panic those were remanence of the earlier development phase of the game.
This is also partially why Mario 2 was re-released in Japan as Super Mario USA, because essentially the one we got was supposed to be the real Mario 2 that was planned at the very start before it became Doki Doki Panic. Also as an added bonus they fixed a lot of stuff between Doki-Doki and Mario 2 making Doki Doki a much downgraded version of Mario 2.
