For decades, Ashrawi was one of the faces of Palestinian negotiations for statehood. Now no longer involved within the PA structure, she harshly criticizes her former colleagues in the Palestinian Authority, blaming their ineffectiveness for why many Palestinians choose to support Hamas, a group seen as “doing something” in the face of occupation.

I was so overcome with anger and sadness during the first round of Israeli bombardment of the North Gaza and I don't have any room within my being to contain any more anger and sadness during the current bombardment of the Southern Gaza! I am just numb! I have admired Hanan Ashrawi since the 90s, when I first started to pay attention to the Palestinian resistance. I am 50 now, and happy to see her expertise and wisdom present in the media again, to speak truth to power. She is so educated, righteously rebellious, and just.
As an American Christian I have to honor and respect and love this wonderful lady, and so many other peace-loving Palestinians who have been made to suffer so much. God bless them all. They have my respect and concern and prayers.

Bring it forward; I believe this woman is at present, relevant, seasoned, knowledgeable of the complexities of the situation, and perfectly poised to actually take the process of healing, and LEADING the Palestinian people to their self determination. Thankless as it may seem at the moment; if , and when the opportunity strikes, she needs to be heard, to be supported, and given an ample opportunity by the strength of the young and open-minded Gazans who (if they manage to live through the horror of the current assault), be carried into a wave of hope, success and conclusion for the Palestinians to their destiny. I had the honour to be friend of Palestinians years ago, never met such educated and kind humans again. What a tragedy that mankind is witnessing. I will not shake hands anymore to any of those who condone these crimes that happen now.
I hope that some of the brilliant Palestinian scholars and activists scattered in the diaspora could come together and provide leadership.

Rabbi Weiss was recently interviewed on Aljazeera English, I believe yesterday. He spoke with such passion against Zionism and how before Zionism came along, which he explained is and was a secular government regime, the people living in Palestine lived peacefully side by side with their Jewish, Muslim and Christian neighbors. He spoke specifically about how Zionism runs counter to Jewish teachings and his vision for the future is a one state for all, once again living side by side with equal rights for all. I'm not sure if that is an overly hopeful vision after all the years of oppression, divisions and conflicts or if it could be a possibility.
All I know is that I see Israel as an Isreali military state. Run by genocidal maniacs and it isn't making anyone safer, it's doing the opposite.

She should have been Palestine’s first President, with all due respect to Arafat. She lived in Palestine. She spoke and speaks perfect English (and is a professor of the language). She reflects the multi-faith fabric of Palestinians (notably the 1991 Madrid Palestinian delegation had two Palestinian Jews on it if I remember correctly) and has excellent negotiation skills. If Arafat wasn’t so self-centered, he would have given her the baton. Just my opinion the son of a 1948 refugee and Michigan State University honors student of the Arab Israeli conflict who’s been to Gaza and W Bank as well as met Dr Ashrawi in Washington DC during my university days. She was the calm, collected Queen of the Madrid conference.

I loved the way she described the 75 years of occupation, and the way she answered your questions. I have grown up admiring this Lady of Diplomacy par excellence. Her ability to take a full picture of the entire situation in a fair and manner is second to none. She is the Palestinian lioness with her eloquent speech always able to understand and express the plight of her people.
She has earned my total respect for decades and it has been a pleasure to learn from her. Now, if the Israelis would listen to her.

It's so upsetting what is happening to the Palestinian people that my emotions are all over the place. I can go from feeling numb, to feeling infuriated that our president is wholeheartedly in support of Israel, to crying over all the Palestinian lives lost because of Netanyahu, and all in just a matter of hours.
