The Cinematic Drums of Radiohead's "Exit Music" from OK Computer | What's That Sound? Ep. 24

- Опубліковано 18 чер 2024
- Though the drums on Radiohead's "Exit Music" don't appear until well over halfway into the track's runtime, they make quite a bombastic entrance that helped earn the track its reputation as a fan favorite. Watch Noam & Jessica replicate the airtight, compressed drums on the "OK Computer" highlight. How close did they get?

You guys covered one of my favorite radiohead drum sounds AND made a free sample pack from what you came up with? Thanks for being great!
Would love to see a tutorial for Reckoner by Radiohead
rt
Step 1: Find a cave to perform in.
Watching the full mix at the end made me realise how reminiscent this song is to ‘Meddle’ era Floyd, when you can hear past Toms unique vocals.
attempt #6 at getting yall to do "tired of sex" by weezer. super different sounding and i have no clue how they did it.
Honestly, the Pinkerton drum sound is one of the best out there
I would love to see this, been chasing it for a while. Think Dave Fridmann engineered which explains a lot.
In case you didn't notice they did it!
You guys always kill this and I love this show SO Much! Haha- you always ask what other albums we’d like to hear covered; I personally would be thrilled if you did NoMeansNo’s drum sound for the album “Wrong” or the drum sound for Jesus Lizards “Goat”
Love these videos! Thanks so much Reverb.
This is so nice! Absolutely love this song! Great album too!
Thanks so much! Such a great cover.
RECKONER RADIOHEAD. CAUSE IT"S THEIR GREATEST RHYTHM TRACK
Brilliant explanation and demo, guys. Thank you. My understanding grows with every one of these videos.
Love this series! I've just gotten into recording drums (beyond a classic/boring 5-mic into a board into a DAW), and these videos have been so mind-blowing (I still trip over the QotSA video where the cymbals were recorded separate from the drums... I mean, what the what...)
I love Radiohead! Great video, I learned a lot.
I really like this series of recreating a great drum sound with great drums and cool recording ideas. Really informative and inspiring.
Explanation of overhead compression was great!! Thank you 🎷
Can you do Can? ‘Vitamin C’ has such a unique drum sound.
I wish you had done Climbing The Walls from OK Computer! That song brings back so many memories, it is such an under appreciated song! It was my favourite from the first listen of the album! It even holds up today!
It has such a claustrophobic vibe.
I like it! My fav too
That song feels like Radioheads take on triphop
@@crackulla Yeah I was heavily into Portishead too at the time! 😂I'm actually surprised I didn't top myself! 😂
@@crackulla what is Triphop?
I want a breakdown of the drum sound in “Watermelon in Easter Hay” by Frank Zappa. Always loved those drums and the snare is crazy in moments
yeah the snare has some dub echo on it if i recall
Great info, thanks
Super cool. What a trippy sound, very psychedelic...love it! ✌️👍
This video was fantastic
you guys should've done airbag that's the most interesting drum sound on ok computer
Thanks for the excellent run down on the techniques!
8:33 perhaps you meant an Oktava sdc microphone?
If it was crappy, I’m gonna assume it was meant that the condition of the microphone was in disrepair because those are very fine microphones!
@@Ascoundrel fair enough, the results will speak for themselves anyway
Much appreciated!
I don't know if you guys are doing requests for this series...but...Talking Heads - Take Me To The River needs an episode. That snare sound is something else and featured so prominently in the beginning of the song.
Love the series!
Love this series ❤
would love to hear you re create the drum sound of Big wreck's in loving memory of album. Great tones!
In a similar vein, I'd love to see/hear a recreation of The Smile's "The Smoke".
This whole series is great! I recently had to learn drums for Pat Benatar's "We Belong", which I think would be a great episode. ;)
Sensacional !
I would love to see some Sly reggae drums.
: )
Do weird fishes/jigsaw falling into place by radiohead next!
Please do Pink Floyd Dark Side Of The Moon and/or Wish You Were Here drum sound!!
Great stuff! What ratio on the 1176 you end up using?
THE TOURIST RADIOHEAD. WE NEED TO KNOW MORE ABOUT THAT TRIANGLE SOUND AT THE END
You can see the influence on Flaming Lips drum sound
I think that’s more about Dave Fridmann. Flaming Lips’ drums were already way out of control (haha) by the time Radiohead’s first record was coming out.
Please do Dennis Davis’ drum sound on Fashion by David Bowie or Tony Thompson’s drum sound on Get it On
I'd love to see a breakdown of Babylon Sisters by Steely Dan!
PLEASE can you do the drum sound of Khruangbin?
Airbag drums would be cool
They use U47 mono oh into 1176 into API eq
ok, the backing track, how was it made? what reverb on the guitars? it actually sounds better than the original i think
The guitar was pretty simple. Telecaster through an OD-1 and a Boss RE-20 Space Echo juiced! The bass was driven with a Big Muff but a lot of the sound is coming from over-saturating a Warm Audio MPX preamp and compressing the daylights out of it.
Gotta do NoMeansNo’s “Wrong”, Jesus Lizard “Goat”, or really anything by Steve Albini please!!!
The sample pack is not working, The link is down
How about “Star Wearing Purple” from Gogol Bordello?
How about something from Worship and Tribute by Glassjaw?
PLEASE JOY DIVISION UNKNOWN PLEASURES I NEED THIS DO DISORDER OR INTERZONE WHATEVER
Jigsaw Falling in to place and i’ll personally buy you a box of chocolate!!
Phil Selway rules.
Still waiting for some Nick Mason love.
Since when is the oktava 012 a really crappy mic?
Can you try the Joy Division/Martin Hannett drum sound?
please do some Joy Division/ Martin Hannett
Can you do some tame impala?
Theres a video on youtube (i think with kevin parker) where they go over the drum sound. Would still be cool to see it but id rather weezers pinkerton or in utero first!
J-Burd is such a big hitter that I think you guys should do something heavier...early Soundgarden, "Jesus Christ Pose" - she could do that, no sweat.
superman by flaming lips
do Idioteque drums now
Tired of Sex by Weezer please :)
Bass guitar need to be much louder. :)
Airbag or National Anthem would’ve been better
Y'all are trying way too hard, go back to just being a gear selling website.
