Beyond gorgeous Bill. Beautiful in every way.
My favorite Mercedes of all time.
I think I'm in love..... absolutely beautiful style, fun and sporty, while elegantly stylish at the same time....the lines of the car are beautiful, just every little simple detail of it is so well thought out, the headlamps and position of the turn signals surrounded simply in chrome, the split bumper, the perfectly shaped and position of the tail lights, just a gorgeous automobile.....yeah, I'm definitely in love.....and is there any better sound then a vintage Mercedes door being closed....solid!....LOVE that sound
Gorgeous. I love the comment about the Bentley owner “hate to see people going hungry”. Cracked me up.
Prettiest Mercedes-Benz ever made. Bar none.
Couldn't agree more ,the should have name it merc.pagoda - bar - nun
I’d say the 300sl gulwing is unbeatable
Agree its the absolute most beautiful one
*_Totally agree !! Had a chance to buy one in the 80s ... one of my biggest regrets ... EVER !!!_*
@@iCarilloninChrist You regret having a chance to buy one in the 80s? (J/K!! i got it...) 😉
Classy demonstration of a well-specced car!
That six sounds glorious!
These 280 SL's are devine... always dreamed of having one.
the are unbelievable expensive these days! 300 grand if top condition!
Have had a crush on this model... 280SL since 1968
14:30 FYI the light on the outside of the glovebox is the map reading light. I used it many times at night to find things I dropped on the passenger floor.
Thanks for the info, my dad owns one and I've always wondered what the point of it was.
I believe the light on the dash is to excite the alternator. It's been forever since I've owned one, but that is my recollection.
Amazing 1970 design. Cool color too!
Love love the color. I want one in powder blue with white seats
One of my three dream cars...the other two are also Mercedes pre-1973.
I want it!" Hate to see people going hungry"
Hilarious ,thank you.
That line took me out too!!!!!🤣
One of many beautiful cars from the Germs.
The seats are ultra comfy
I love these old Mercedes models
Screw it. FLA or bust. Beautiful color. I like the lines of the 67. Thank you for the look at a beautiful car.
My Favourite Convertible Car
What a fantastic piece of machine..
Love these classic cars...
I once a 1979 Mercedes 45 SL. It was a beauty but be prepared for "scheduled maintenance."
When i moved to lose Angeles in 85-86 they were gorgeous going through lax.
I had a white one, with tan interior. I drove it to the marina where I kept my yacht.
Then I woke up.
280SL, a beautiful creation; I don't think it's a crime against humanity to mention similarities between it and the MX-5 in drivability and feel.
amazing excellent car 👍👍👍👍👍👌👌👌👌👌✌️✌️✌️✌️✌️🇮🇳🙏🚗
Sound of acceleration is a main pleasure.
These are as fast as a 450SEL 6,9 if they have 5 speed transmission!
I remember when it was possible to get one for 6 to 7 thousand dollars. 2500 US dollars and a few packs of gas coupons would have bought a second hand 1970 model from the lot in 1972 in Germany and that would be without hunting for a better offer. Dollars were like gold and in Germany it was just another used Mercedes. I have two luxury hobbies, RC airplanes and marine aquariums, which give me pleasure in the work and accomplishment. Whereas a Mercedes is just a car, mine still gives me pleasure like my hobbies. Mercedes is my one true material weakness. I see blisters on my centercaps and I go right down to the dealer for a set of four. I enjoy cleaning and polishing and driving it on my long shopping trips to the base. I feel good in the right lane with my cruise on the speed limit and the most bizarre mix of music one might have on an SD card. I like the 1970 hardtop model so much that if I had no morals I'd host a go-fund-me to buy one. I feel depressed now.
I wouldn't repaint it,just keep it exactly like it is ,heaps of character!
The old Merc pagoda timeless design as well as jag xke, & my personal favorite 67 singray convertible 427 tri power ,top that i dare you.
what a beauty.

Hello that is a great looking car.i use to have a 450 sl and I know this one is a great looking car also I like the Six cylinder engine.you have a looker there.i wish that I had the money I would like to buy.Glwts peace
A wealthy friend who owned various high end amd exotics stated regularly that he disliked colour matched center hub caps.
Some people, huh?
Amazing car !
Class is not 'go fast'.
A Pagoda is meant to be driven well, cruised, not flung around thoughtlessly.
This or an MB 280SE Cabrio is the boots and done. True classics.
Great car. Great video.
I love Naples
I got 2 280SL ..One red and one green... Christmas colors... But I absolutely love the color of that car... Was that a standard color or custom?
She's a Beauty!
If the car is used on a daily basis, it may be worth replacing the headlamps with the European covers with LED lights. They look so much better.
No. Just no.
@@trumpdump20
A matter of taste, but the one-piece European light cluster looks *much, much* nicer. Like this:
ua-cam.com/video/GDvDK7UmwfU/v-deo.html
@@johnburns4017 yes it looks nicer, and yes it's probably more practical, but it's not original. It's like engine swapping it for a modern v8. It might be faster, but it's not the original intention or design of the car.
@@trumpdump20
It was original where I came from. The US versions look hideous. The original car had the one piece European lights.

The 230SL was based on the Benz sedan cars at the time. The car was sheet steel with all the caps (hood, trunk and doors) were aluminum. Similar with the engine - a cast-iron block with aluminum head and caps. The engine, gearbox, steering and suspension were all from the sedan car. The physically big long stroke sedan engine is totally unsuited for such a car. But subsequently parts were easily available and cheap to other similar types of cars. The heavy & noisy straight-six engine was inferior to say the Jaguar E-Type straight six. The car did have engineering design flaws.
*** The fuel injection was a Bosch mechanical injection pump, hence why the engine needs more revs to start than other cars. The oil bath in the pumps needs to have quality oil in at all times. Do not neglect.
*** The fuel injection was not suited to these engines at the time, giving too many problems. To start the engine, a 7th injector was in the air inlet manifold, operated only when starting. But a saviour came along, third party contactless ignition. You *have* to fit electronic contactless ignition to these cars, as it makes a massive difference in performance and especially starting. This type of ignition was not available when the car was made. It can eliminate the 7th injector.
*** The engines suffer from poor alternator mountings - the side of the block was drilled out to take the bracket mounting bolts which ovaled. To get this fixed can be an expensive job as the side of the block has to be drilled out, with the sump removed and engine lifted to remove any swarth from the drilling.
*** The engine mountings are two large flat rubber mountings either side of the engine. If they deteriorated, which they did quite quickly with the old inferior rubbers they had in the 1960s, the engine could move forward slightly ramming into the radiator - the space between the radiator and engine was too tight. Best to remove the mechanical fan to give more space, then fit an electric fan in front of the radiator.
*** The rubber gearbox to propshaft coupling also deteriorated quickly.
I assume replacements for the rubber parts are of superior quality to the originals.
*** Fit latex radiator hoses, having *all* hoses latex.
*** The wires to the indicator stalk frayed where they entered the steering column from the stalk, as there was not enough slack in the wire. The indicators failed.
*** The ignition switches never lasted too long. Make sure they are well lubricated. Same with the door handles and trunk locks.
*** I _think_ a high torque starter motor is available, if so get one of those if the motor fails. It will make a difference.
*** Fit a modern large capacity non-lead-acid battery. Jay Leno does that to many of his classics that he drives frequently.
*** The intermediate spring on the rear swing suspension could weaken with the top of the rear wheels visibly toeing in. If this happens replace the spring.
*** Use suitable fully synthetic oils. The oil pressure drops at low revs using old mineral oils when the oil is heated up.
*** Ensure that the underside is rust proofed. Rust around the headlights is common.
*** Fit gas shock absorbers on the rear. They came with gas on the front and oil on the rear on some models.
*** The ball joints on the accelerator linkages needs constant lubricating. The ball joints had a habit of wearing out quickly.
The electrical systems were generally well made.
Replace all parts with quality parts.
Not an inspiring car to drive at all. Looks nice though.
Pagoda... also known as the
“Call girl Special “. 🤣
Fantastic rust
How much you want for it
So Bill... you've been seeing a lot of Pam lately I see. Anything you want to share with us??
💙💙😎😎
that engine sounds sexy!!!
Florida ??
From where can I get one?
Price?
The 280 SL is a lovely sounding car. Would've been much nicer if the narration was at the stop signs, rather than annoyingly during acceleration. The sound of 280 SL acceleration is far more likely to sell that car rather than somewhat inane commentary.
though I 100% agree that the sound of a pogoda at 3k rpms and rising is a sweet thing - Bill is a cool dude..losing the tie a little bud :)
No one said anything about "Bill" being cool or not, & not sure what "losing the tie a little" is supposed to mean. Maybe you should try to read my comments again, & better yet try comprehending them before attempting a reply.....bud. -_-
@@redkos chill dickhead..I apologize..I meant LOOSEN the tie and chill..
That's MISTER Dickhead to you, sport. And frankly the child that's name-calling w/ idiocy like "dickhead" is the one who needs to chill, Einstein.
I want one. Since I was a girl.

Anyone searched this because of Forza Horizon?

Such an ugly little car. Even when it was new we couldn't stand it. Terrible design. Its replacement wasn't great looking but easily better
