One of the questions I get asked the most is where is the ideal first backpacking trip. Most people will tell you it's either Central America or South East Asia.

the chicken bus is part of the authentic experience in central america, wouldn't say they are dangerous at all

Is it way harder to meet people in Central America than in SEA? Asking bc I've been to SEA and it was so easy to meet ppl since everybody is going out and traveling the same route. Cheers!

It's not hard but it's definitely more difficult than SE Asia IMO. Not something to stress about but you'll likely meet people on activities/trips than at bars like SE Asia

South East Asia is nice place for backpacking. Trust me 🥸✌🏻
