The best, war movie, locations, that I never seen. I will have watching this movie about ten times. And I m not tired again. The first time directly on the Cinema. In the 1969 here in Italy. After by VHS and by DVD. Wonderful soundtrack from Ron Goodwin Orchestra.
The perfect musical arrangement for a war-movie like this!! It stirs the emotions of drama, grit, and action. It is one of my all-time favorite themes!! Really one of the best W.W.II films ever created! Truly has the flavor of ancient ALPINE CASTLES !! Love'em !! Larry,Naples,FL.
I agree really with all your comment! I was afraid to use the actual soundtrack at the start of my own Salzburg 'Sound of Music etc' YT video but I included a bit of machine gun strafing and explosions along with the still image of Schloss Adler (you'd never imagine the picture was taken through a coach window! :)
One of my favorite ever movies,....and great to see a lot of the locations are pretty much in tact from this classic war thriller......I remember watching it firstly as a lad.....and loved it.....and now I'm a middle aged .....and still love it!!
This is one of my absolute favorite movies, the action and the scenery make it. I would have loved seeing this in theater in 1968. I can watch it any time it comes on, they just don't make movies like this anymore.
Clint Eastward doesn’t say much for about 20 minutes and takes some time before he kills any Germans. He then proceeds to wipe out the best part of a regiment on his own! Marvellous.
SAw the castle for real this year but only at a distance . Got a tremendous shot of it though. Please have a look at my 'Sound of Music??SChloss ADler. Mozart's Salzburg' video. The introduction at least might intrigue you. It was fun editing the video anyway. :)
I visited the castle a few years ago, strangely no mention of the film at all? No cable car unfortunately One of the best falconry shows I've ever seen in the grounds, everything from small falcons to Vultures, sweeping out over the valley, brilliant.
I wish I had had time to visit it and include more of it in my video about Salzburg really but I did include a cracking still of it near the Qiz startof the video.
This is indeed one of my FAVORITE War Movie made after one of the Bestselling Novels of "Alistair MacLean" who was, in fact, my late father-in-law. Best regards. MarieMadeleine MacLean, Author Of The Critically Acclaimed Paranormal Thriller "RACE. The Colour Of SHAME" which will be soon adapted to the screen...
The castle is I think around 30 minutes from Salzberg. Our coach driver was kind enough to pull in so we could get pictures through the window. So pleased with mine I got it in ourlocal paper and included it in my Mozart's Salzberg YT video.

Would be nice to see if the train tracks still exists.

The most Epic war movie ever made
If this great film had been made in warmer moths, I don't think that it would have had half the impact it did.
Steve20127 Winter is the best season for German coat emphasizes attraction, force and Germany militarism.
Nah the winter season was a good setting
Steve20127 Well said... snow and grey added to the tension. My all time

OK some scenes/areas outside the Castle have changed quite markedly. Others in the castle haven't really other than the paint scheme and furniture.
Super 🎥🎦🎬
I visited the castle a few years ago, strangely no mention of the film at all?
No cable car unfortunately
One of the best falconry shows I've ever seen in the grounds, everything from small falcons to Vultures, sweeping out over the valley, brilliant.
The cable Car shown in the Movie is the Feuerkogelseilbahn in Ebensee, Upper Austria!
This is the 3rd person who visited this place and posted on U tube. Looks different without snow but that place must get a lot in the winter.
I wish I had had time to visit it and include more of it in my video about Salzburg really but I did include a cracking still of it near the Qiz startof the video.

The cable Car shown in the Movie is the Feuerkogelseilbahn in Ebensee, Upper Austria.

@scherbi2424 There is no cablecar in Werfen. Filmmakers used Feuerkogel-Drahtseilbahn in Ebensee.
@paul1967 Nope.
‘Broadsword calling Danny boy ‘
The very words muttered quietly from the back of the cable car as it ascended Mont Blanc. The passengers dissolved with laughter

I
actor ferdy mayne portraied a great nazi general ,instead in real life was a nazi victim and had to escape in england
Ferdy Mayne's part was the ultimate insult for every Nazi, so it was allright.
Very interesting fact!
So was the actor Derren Nesbitt, who was Jewish but played a Gestapo or S.S. officer in "W E.D."
Can I have the address of these locstions please? You are a great! Very good Job !!!
Werfen, Austria and a village called Lofer in Austria.
And the real cable car is located in Ebensee, Austria.
