The best part about this game's gameplay... is that it's still a Sonic game. It's a fresh new take for the series, but still has that nostalgic "glitchy mess ready to fall apart at any second" feeling to it. I do hope Arin learns the secret of the game is just to run around everything with the ring power, though. I'm not sure it really explains it well.

Whether Sonic Saturdays or Sonic Sundays, Arin and Dan always know how to make our weekend better. I can't wait for them to get to emotional parts of the game and the Titan bosses. Also, I'm very impressed that Arin was able to defeat Asura without touching the ground between rounds. Great job!

26:41 The way Arin profusely apologizes to the platform for hitting it is hysterical! Like either it's an enemy or a interactable object, either way you're SUPPOSED to hit it.
I knew Arin was going to immediately forget the usefulness of cylooping objects...but I didn't expect it to come into play multiple times in the second part...
I love that the internal absolute panic that the latest starbomb album was 9 years ago quickly led to Dan comforting Arin with simply making another album for us- 😭😭😩😩🙌🏻
@Fedoraking same for me the first couple times I tried it. They really should have made it more timing based, cause that's what almost all other video games do anyways. It makes it feel less impressive when you actually do it right, and just makes it less fun in my opinion
I can't even laugh at Arin for mistaking LT+RT for LB+RB and thinking a somersault is a parry. I thought the ENTIRE GAME, it was like Royal Guard and frame specific instead of a stance, so I'd land a parry like 5% of the game, and spent the whole time thinking "WOW, THEY REALLY DID UP THE DIFFICULTY THIS IS RAD!" only to later learn I basically self-imposed a challenge on myself. I also didn't realize how the schmup sections worked, and Touhou'd it by never changing my colors. That took a long time.
Just going to say this right now, you don't need to time your parry, you just hold the buttons until an attack lands and you'll parry (and yes you can hold the parry mid-air and sonic will just float there).
Did you know Sonic actually does have a confirmed family? He was separated from them for safety purposes. *Mother: Queen Aleena* *Father: Jules* (named Sonic) (left shortly after Sonic was born) *Sister: Sonia* (Sonic's triplet) *Brother: Manic* (Sonic's triplet) Sorry this fun fact is late I was traveling with my twin
Is this a dream? Are you guys putting the game title and episode number in the title again?? GOD THANK YOU though with the format used in this one it might be a bit confusing with numbered sequels. I thought this was a video for Sonic Frontiers 2 for a sec
Arin Being taught how to parry, seeing a boss that reminds you you can parry, then being told that there's an indicator for attacks that you can parry, only for him to get annoyed, close out the info block, and immediately eat shit is the definitive grumps experience.
I know this series is like a year old but if you grumps see this please thank the person who subtitles the videos and doesn’t auto generate them!! Meant the world to me! :)
Literally, this isn't Sonic Heroes where they give you one quick text tutorial. They LITERALLY put you in an isolated room with no way to avoid the crystal clear instructions lmao
Hearing Arin mention the name "Oglevie" (if that was what he said) is really strange to me, because that was my great-grandmother's maiden name before she married into my grandmother's side of my family. Wild.
Arin, the game out right tells you to Parry, but you were dodge rolling. Hold both LB+RB at the same time. You also don't need to time it, since holding both buttons will let Sonic reflect enemy attacks and projectiles.
I'm not expecting arin to be doing any of the high skill moves or anything but I do hope he starts trying to use some of the skill tree. It'll make some of these battle more fun and a lot easier haha

Those kinds of jokes are just SO good.

Arin, you have some sort of magic touch, just that it’s not magic but cursed. xD

“Koroks” 😂
I can't wait to see what he thinks of the boss music!
@@dreadpiraterobertsnumba5 he'll think the boss music has too much screaming in it, thinks it's too emo for a Sonic song, and be disappointed that it's not a "butt rock" song to make fun of. Because you know, God forbid they just enjoy and good Sonic song.
You mean kocos?
Why is this music so flipping great??? Like, it just channels Yoko Shimomura vibes, and I'm so damn into it.
Because Sonic music always slaps
@@mr.awesome6011 Absolutely, but this is a completely different genre, a backhanded slap instead of open palm, if you will. I'm mean, hit me with either, but damn. 👌
My weekends are so much better since you decided to start long series sundays!!! Thank you so much, Grumps!
I really was hoping the episode length be as long as Sam and Max- other then that I’m excited!
Game hints for the grumps:
•If you do an infinity ♾️ symbol with cyloop, you get unlimited boost meter
•To solve puzzles, cyloop everything around you until you get it, it works atleast 70% of the time
•If you fill your ring meter you get full super sonic speed
•When refighting asura, you can Cyloop it’s legs and hit the bottom of its feet to get extra gears
Just some advice, love you both, keep up the amazing work
It's always a good time when Arin calls something in the game a freak.
"You like that you FREAK!? You're a FREAK!!"
@@Daniel_Boni “STOP JUMPING LIKE A FREAK!”
Watching this makes me feel like I'm going baton. Dan's on POINT with those triangle jokes
ever since that joke occured, im going baton has become a new ear worm for me and it wont stop lol XD
I can't wait to hear Arin's reaction to the boss battle music in this game.
He'll be disappointed it's not "butt rock" and therefore not like the song.
you guys should make it an hour long if it’s for “long series ”, cause I agree with some of these comments saying it’s gonna take awhile. Sam and Max episodes were almost more than an hour. love you guys btw 👍🏻
The way they casually said let's make another Starbomb album and then went on to the next topic
Sonic: Sees Amy imprisoned
"I'll get someone to help you! I'll call the police!"
That really got me 🤣
Arin: I hate the Camera Angles in the old sonic games!
Also Arin: *doesn’t use the camera in combat*
Whether Sonic Saturdays or Sonic Sundays, Arin and Dan always know how to make our weekend better. I can't wait for them to get to emotional parts of the game and the Titan bosses. Also, I'm very impressed that Arin was able to defeat Asura without touching the ground between rounds. Great job!
That was pretty great.
Arin getting better at the asura fight with each attempt was pretty dope to see
Arin is in for a "Big" suprise when he finds out what the purple coins are for
I almost feel like it was made for him.
The “Cat” will definitely get his tongue
Don't worry, he's going to fuck up the stupidly easy mechanic of the fishing game too.
if anyone is trying to go look for the music that is on that green hills like level it is called "Cyber Space 1-6: Go Back 2 Your Roots"
perfect name for that track, and what they should have done with all the music because so far this is the only one i heard i liked and i listened to quite a few trying to find it
I'm curious if we'll reach an "unavoidable chin-move" in this particular game. Don't let us down, Frontiers.
Contrary to what Game Grumps wants you to think, Frontiers is actually well made enough to not have bullshit moments
@@thecoolnerdcolress1738 so long as Arin gets the hang of the parry, things will be fine I'd say.
Nah, Frontiers is easy once you get the hang of it. Although I worry Arin won't get the hang of it.
@@Seekaywastaken it’s hard to mess up, they made it specifically so it wasn’t challenging to where people would complain like a soulsborne game.
Pinball
26:41 The way Arin profusely apologizes to the platform for hitting it is hysterical! Like either it's an enemy or a interactable object, either way you're SUPPOSED to hit it.
I knew Arin was going to immediately forget the usefulness of cylooping objects...but I didn't expect it to come into play multiple times in the second part...
I'm not surprised in the slightest. It's infuriating.
I started playing after the first episode came out and immediately thought the lovelies are gonna have to remind Arin that he can cyloop.
I love that the internal absolute panic that the latest starbomb album was 9 years ago quickly led to Dan comforting Arin with simply making another album for us- 😭😭😩😩🙌🏻
Game: Gives multiple tutorials on how to parry.
Arin: Presses only one button to dodge and not parries.
And will then later on complain about the game not having taught him how to do it
My friends and I may have missed the ability to dodge in Metal Gear Revengeance. I'm still embarrassed by that.
@blackjacktrial one of my friends did the same thing, he actually beat the entire game without knowing he could do that
I played through the whole game thinking I had to time the parry. I missed so many cool moments with the bosses cause of this.
The fact that Arin knows stomping down gives more height, gives me hope about him learning the game. It also shows how much he loves Sonic.
Yet his inability to hold LB and RB is some cause for concern. Well, that and already forgetting to cyloop things.
This game seems pretty good at (mostly) gentle forced tutorials. The tutorial minigames during loading screens seems especially helpful.
He's not a fan. He still calls it "butt rock" when it's obviously glam rock. It's incredibly insulting to Jun and Johnny aka Crush 40.
@@willdean2573 what the heck man, he just doesn't know the names-
@@greedyProphet That's because this had the most mechanics out of any sonic game. Although they could have better placed tutorials.
Just going to say this right now, you don't need to time your parry, you just hold the buttons until an attack lands and you'll parry (and yes you can hold the parry mid-air and sonic will just float there).
He definitely learned the parry, absolutely.
Most definitely
Did you know Sonic actually does have a confirmed family? He was separated from them for safety purposes.
*Mother: Queen Aleena*
*Father: Jules* (named Sonic) (left shortly after Sonic was born)
*Sister: Sonia* (Sonic's triplet)
*Brother: Manic* (Sonic's triplet)
Sorry this fun fact is late I was traveling with my twin
We’re gonna need longer episodes for this series, I think
I once knew an astronomer called Ogilvie, he said the chances of anything coming from Mars are a million to one
Is this a dream? Are you guys putting the game title and episode number in the title again?? GOD THANK YOU
though with the format used in this one it might be a bit confusing with numbered sequels.
Wow I can’t believe sega released Sonic Frontiers 2 already
I know this series is like a year old but if you grumps see this please thank the person who subtitles the videos and doesn’t auto generate them!! Meant the world to me! :)
22:15 This was the best opportunity for Arin to learn how to parry. Does it incorrectly because of course.
And he will inevitably blame the game later on for not teaching I'm the mechanic
Literally, this isn't Sonic Heroes where they give you one quick text tutorial. They LITERALLY put you in an isolated room with no way to avoid the crystal clear instructions lmao
I already see them at the second boss getting hit by the missiles and not efficiently parrying to reach the boss.
Are you really surprised that the "secretly a Sonic fan" DIDN'T figure out the easiest mechanic in the game?
@16:13 I HIGHLY HIGHLY EXPECT SPACE BEAR TO MAKE THIS A SONG
Hope arin notices that the ranks in the cyberspace levels are now purely timebased
Hearing Arin mention the name "Oglevie" (if that was what he said) is really strange to me, because that was my great-grandmother's maiden name before she married into my grandmother's side of my family. Wild.
Arin: I don't know what I'm doing
Giant flashing TRAINING SIMULATOR Message: am I a joke to you?
Arin, the game out right tells you to Parry, but you were dodge rolling. Hold both LB+RB at the same time. You also don't need to time it, since holding both buttons will let Sonic reflect enemy attacks and projectiles.
I'm not expecting arin to be doing any of the high skill moves or anything but I do hope he starts trying to use some of the skill tree. It'll make some of these battle more fun and a lot easier haha
Honestly I know they're still in the exploring phase but I'm really hoping they just start to figure out the objectives to move the plot forward, they'll be playing this game until the end of time otherwise LOL
You have too much faith in Arin.
My favorite part was when Morbius looked at the camera and said “I’m going baton🎶”

I cried. I’m so fucking hyped for their reaction.
Can't wait to see them react to the GOD TIER OST
Looking at the current pace they're taking this game it might be another 3 episodes before they reach the first boss.
I'm not. I'm honestly dreading it. Arin will forget how the controls will work and claim the game is broken, he still won't know how to perry and always get hit by the spinning smack the Titan does, which will then be dubbed the "unavoidable bitch slap," they'll listen to the God tier song of Undefeatable and be disappointed that it isn't a "butt rock" song (aka a song that sounds like butt/ass, haha get it?!) and claim the song will be terrible too. I don't get what people are getting so hyped about. This isn't going to end well for anyone.
@Will Dean tbh Arin getting pisssed at the boss while Undefeatable is playing sounds hilarious
I just wanna say that the game titles in the video titles again feels great, I really missed it! I kept feeling like I was missing series without them
Yeah, I don't like their new way of naming titles for their videos with a random sentence. Doesn't entice me to watch it.
The moment when sonic went “Heh Heh!” right after Arin made his nut joke was unexpectedly funny. I haven’t bought sonic frontiers at all, but maybe sonic team made sonic in this game self aware and he shows signs of breaking the fourth wall (I’m joking though)
Dan saying he still doesn’t like being in crowds & that the Backstreet Boys Reunion Tour is still around is what I really needed to hear. I miss doing things without worry & it’s hard now that ppl are like eh I’ll just get sick whatever. Idk it’s nice to hear other people voice the emotional damage that is the BSB tour.
Arin did a pretty good job remembering all 8 currencies in this game.
Arin in some games: How the heck was I supposed to know you were supposed to do X thing to progress?!
Also Arin: Okay! Stop telling me things!
I'll never forget Zelda Wind Waker, where for one episode they spent five minutes laughing about someone gave them a really simple straightforward chore (like, "deliver a letter to this guy two rooms down" or something), and then the remaining twenty minutes of the episode were spent wandering and complaining that the game hadn't told them what to do. Because they didn't do the chore that they spent five minutes mocking the game about.
They're either going to have to do longer episodes or more than one a week because this is a long ass game and this might take a while LOL
It's like 11 at night where I'm at, and I was really expecting this the next day for Long Series Sunday, but I was so happy and filled with joy at watching this. I love it when you guys play Sonic and Pokemon games, so please play Pokemon Violet next? Thanks guys.
Arin is the only one I know on the planet that could discover a bug like that in Sonic Frontiers.
It’s almost supernatural luck that he manages to find all these bugs in sooo many games and he’s one of the few people with a big internet show where those bugs popping up is hilarious.
Of course. Because he goes out of his way to find them to make Sonic games look bad. Or maybe he's just terrible at Sonic games and should stop calling himself a fan.
