    Hi guys, thank you for all the great videos. We are seriously considering moving to Tenerife this year and your information is amazing. It's actually the best we found on the internet so far. Just a quick question (maybe I missed it in your videos) - do you have any recommendation on where on the island to live?

    There are social benefits here in Spain and in the Canaries for families starting from 3 kids (familias numerosas) they get grants for school and discounts in many things. Social benefits in Spain are for people who really need them, and you don't look like specially in need. As you said so many times we are very poor here in the Canaries it might seem logical for us to assits first our own people instead of giving away money to people from abroad.
    To get from the system you have to contribute to the system first or be poor. Probably, neither is your case.
    Being surprised about not finding jobs in mining or manufacturing industries here in an archipielago with no raw materials nor resources is kind of laughable.
    I'm sure that if you would have taken the effort of learning Spanish you would have found better jobs, benefits and integrated better. It is kind of very lordlike intending that locals adapt to you instead of you adapting to the coountry you are moving to and which is accepting you and your family. I'm sure that if I moved to Austria they would expect me to learn German.
    In Tenerife there are shops and food from everywhere in the world, my brother in law is German, lives in Tenerife and buys salami and sausages on a regular basis (they are both trash but who am I to say get you out of your mistakes). In the Canaries there are melons, watermelons, peaches, apricots, watermelons, and a thousand of fruits more, every crop has its season, but when we don't have them we import them from anywhere else in the world. I own a few peach trees myself and their season is in summer.

    I actually love the flight connections Tenerife has. You can get great deals to go almost anywhere. If you are a resident, you can get to Madrid or Barcelona very cheap and from there wherever you want.

    • @LensVagabonds
      @LensVagabonds  2 роки тому

      It pretty much depends where you fly to. We fly to Romania and Austria very often. To Romania there’s only 1 direct flight / week. To Vienna maybe two flights. We are also residents and we have the 75% discount, but when we fly to Vienna with a layover we have to spend hours or even the night between flights. Often times it’s not worth for us:)

    • @Invisiblehand123
      @Invisiblehand123 2 роки тому

      @@LensVagabonds Yeah, It depends where you are from and what you need to do. For work, I can see how it can be problematic. Especially if you have children. I am from Northern Europe, so traveling from there is always a hassle. Austria is in a central location so of course, it can't compare to that. If you are used to living in the periphery of Europe and like to travel, moving to the Canaries is certainly an upgrade. Connections from the Canary Islands to central Europe are much cheaper and more frequent than say from Finland or Sweden.

    I like watching videos about what foreigners think about my island. I agree with you, its a good video. I am glad you have said its your fault you dont speak Spanish. Obviously, you are in Spain, if you want to addapt you MUST speak Spanish, except if you are living in the South and in many situations i believe it would be needed too. But something i would like to comment, flats are difficult to rent because "okupación" google it, because maybe you dont know about it. Carnival is normally in February, March, but this year because of COVID it has moved to June, normally its not in June.

      @@Robin-hp8pu my mother and my 2 aunts has a building situated in SC (Barrio Salamanca) and they have 8 flats on it. They rent them and one of the tenants didnt pay the rent for two years because she didnt have enough money, my mother and my aunts reported it to the justice and they lost the judgment. Its not exactly "okupación" but with this example you can see how things work in Spain. Obviously, now they rent the flats and they are asking for guarantors, in case the tenant doesnt pay. Nowadays, prices are rising a lot because the amount of people living in the island its not sustainable. Anyways, its much cheaper than in the rest of european countries, but if you want to live in a good place in the capital city of Tenerife you will spend around 850-1000 euros.

    We're now here for 2 months. Yes, some specific fruits like watermelon can be costly, but overall, I've never eaten that fresh and cheap fruits and vegetables. Though, we never buy in the supermarket, only in our local Fruiteria or on Saturdays farmers market in Candelaria. Coffee? The real negatives are in my opinion the bureaucracy, deliveries, and I agree, come here as a self-employed, a remote worker, or entrepreneur. But if you want to find a job here? With a lot of hard work you'll find one. But this is absolutely not the place to go to find work.

We consider buying a small apartment on Tenerife (first we'd probably rent something for at least half a year to see if the island suits us) and either moving there, or renting it short-term and spending some winter months there. One thing from the video that worries me the most is air quality - I live in Poland and during the winter air quality is a nightmare, so for a winter escape I'd like to go somewhere with perfect air, where I don't have to hide in my home with air purifier, like I'm already doing here.

    Excellent video, but , I think is a terrible mistake try to compare an Island with a big city in europe , because first , we are not a big city , our population is less than a big city , we are a volcanic islands soo is just mountain and beach ... beatiful mountains and beachs but thats it. In refering to make a orders online , burocracy in canary Island with the aduanas is really anoying. Is soo hard get something from outside but I releat is a Island in the atlantic ocean soo thata mean is not close to anything. About the events sometimes is something but also you have to think about canary people is not the same like the rest of spain , our musical taste is more kind of latin music and it is a lot of events with this kind of grouos or singer, also we have a few tecno events. But if you expected international bands is bot the place except if a bands sing in spanish like Maná for example. About the mechanic yes totally agree , about the be "puntual" yes totally agree dont going to happen , we live to relax sometimes , but we know each other soo we know that when we say at 10 we dont day at 10 we say 10 , 10:30 ,11 and this is not the gime for meet this is the time like you expected be out of your home hahaha but even close ... soo yes we are like this. About the people dont speak english is true and I think one of the problem if you compare with Europe is in spain or france we translate evrything soo thats mran you dont need learn english for anything at all , we translate movies , series ... we watch evrything in spanish. For example rigth now I live in sweeden and here they dont translate anything evrything is in original version and thats help a lot because thats mran you have to learn. Im from Tenerife and I can tell you one thing if you eant make money dont go there , if you want have a kind of live that you want big events big mals... dont go there,if you have to travel a lot ... is not the rigth place but if you want a relax live and take it easy is your place. About the food Im spanish and Im from Tenerife , I lived in Netherlands , england and sweeden .... diferent taste but for me definitly dpanish food dpecial canary island is better at least we have more variety. But lime I say the food is just depend where you grow up is totally diferent flavours. Your videos are really good , good job and I hope you and your family have a good time there but yes if you looking for kind of experience like a big cities ... Madrid, London.. is not the rigth place 😁😁

    As a person that lives here, in Tenerife, I want to say that locals are suffering the mass arrival of people that comes to the island. Such a demand is making rents unaffordable, and the public services are collapsed. We have thousands of cars and so unbearable traffic just because the Gouverment does not regulate anything.
    If any person wants to come to live here I'd say please don't. This is not a paradyse anymore, it's becoming a Big city, this is loosing its atractive and there are more and more inequalities and poverty.

      What mass arrival? The population is damn near stable in Tenerife. There's an issue with bureaucracy and inefficient government for sure.

      @@Invisiblehand123 We have 5 million tourists per year and +14000 new residents per year. ¿Isn't that mass arrival? XD

      @@hinenikTourism is the very lifeblood of the islands. Although prices could be increased in my opinion. Selling 1€ pints is not a good business model.
      Are you talking about total migration or actual residency approvals?

      @@Invisiblehand123 The problem is not tourism, the problem is the tourism model, which focuses more on quantity than quality.
      Let's compare with Galapagos, which is an archipelago that is making a great effort to conserve its natural values: in 2019, the Canary Islands received more than 15 million tourists, while Galapagos (which has a larger surface area) received 270,000 (56 times less than the Canary Islands).
      Are they starving? No. Is tourism their main activity? Yes. Is it sustainable over time? Probably. In the case of the Canary Islands, we are already running out of cetaceans, fish, forests and virgin landscapes. But people like to boast that we had LOT of tourists, and if more hotels and roads are not built, it looks like we are going to sink.

      @@Invisiblehand123 Then there are the digital nomads and people who can afford to have a second home here. It's not a bad thing per se, but if 14,000 new people come here every year, that's thousands of homes that won't be available for locals, and therefore local people, like me, can't afford to rent a flat for 1000 euros a month.
      The problem is not residency or tourism, the problem is that there is no regulation by the Canarian Government (which also continues to sell to foreigners who come to live here).

    Hello. I have seen the video and I do not agree with what is stated, I am sorry. To begin with, there is aid and of all kinds, for large families and the unemployed or people who have no income. In my case, we are a family with three children, that is, a large family and for this reason, we have a lot of help of all kinds from the Canarian government, the town hall, the Tenerife government and the Spanish government, for transportation, studies, healthcare and more. things and that my wife and I work. Then Social Security gives you a helping hand every six months for being a large family and the Treasury, the same. Then, you have reinforcement classes for free studies by the city council, in this case, from Santa Cruz de Tenerife, as well as many social aids, such as fixing the house and they even pay your water and electricity bills if you don't have income. And so much help. That is why many Spaniards and Canaries are complaining to the government that many people are arriving from abroad and receive, without having contributed anything in the country, many social aids. If you have not looked or asked carefully in each organism, of course you do not have these aids. Even the cost of books is covered by the council. I no longer even tell you about helping the elderly or the elderly who live alone and receive help from going to volunteers or social workers for tasks at home, calls twice or depending on your home to find out if you're okay, a system that notifies the toilets if you feel unwell or do not answer the social service call. There are many social aids and of all kinds.
