Helping a family member who has mental health issues can be difficult and in some cases, impossible. Full adults have the same rights we all have and can only be held for mental health issues temporarily. Further, the side effects of the medications can be difficult and there are a pitiful number of places, therapists and effective strategies to help those who need it. More attention needs to be put on the man who put him in a chokehold. Too much is too much and he needs to be held accountable.
Interesting how Ms. Hostin, an attorney, is ignoring the fact that Neely was screaming and threatening everyone in the train... Sunny is telling us that the guy was hungry, and deserved compasion but not telling us about what he said and did to make everyone in the train afraid for their lives. Probably not. This verdict indicates a black person who is homeless, has mental problems is not worth sending the person who killed him to jail. Pitiful!

A New York City police spokesperson told Newsweek that Neely's record has 42 prior arrests, dating between 2013 and 2021. They include four for alleged assault, while others involved accusations of transit fraud and criminal trespass. At the time of his death, Neely had one active warrant for an alleged assault in connection with a 2021 incident. This the guy they defend...Neely, 30, was yelling and pacing back and forth on an F train in Manhattan on Monday afternoon when he was restrained by at least three people, according to police and witnesses. Video of the incident posted online by a freelance journalist showed a U.S. Marine veteran lying beneath Neely and holding him in a headlock position for several minutes as Neely unsuccessfully tried to break free. Another passenger pinned Neely's arms, while a third held down his shoulder.
I don’t get how anyone can realistically think 1. That it was racially motivated and 2. That he should be charged with a crime. 2 other people held the guy down which they never talk about, probably because they were also BROWN. So why would they be doing that if it’s racism? It’s such stupid claim
Jordan Neely's family who abandoned him during his difficult moment 😢 now they all pretend to care about him.... all just to set up a case for a lawsuit.... all about greed
Please note: When the paramedics got to the train station, Neely was still alive. EMS was slow to work on him because they feared he might have HIV or a transmittable disease. That is why he died. He vould of still been alive. Plus his dad sucks.
i cannot find a minute by minute timeline anywhere. it is weird, like they aren't trying to share the true facts. dude may have held on to the chokehold too long but is what it is. there is no proof he even heard people saying to release him. he also probably lost track of time during the whole situation. I've been in a similar situation and blacked out, came to with someone in a chokehold who had just attacked my friend's dad. I am sure Penny was more conscious than I was, but you still lose track of time in any fight or flight situation, it is just how it goes unfortunately
HiV is transmissible but not through topical contact (and certainly not with gloves which would likely be the case) so the paramedics would not have been slow to work on him for that reason.
Everytime it is Sunny’s turn to speak I run to the comments to see if anyone agrees with her at all. And as usual NOPE just a bunch of people who wishes she would shut up!!!!😂😂😂
So are innocent bystanders supposed to have done nothing while a man is making threats and about to become violent?? He was about to or was going to hurt innocent people, regardless of him being mentally ill. You don’t give someone a pass who is mentally ill. When someone is making a serious threat, you either act and defend yourself/others or you become a victim to a senseless crime.
That's what Alyssa was talking about, and some other people agree. The amount of time that Jordan Neely was in the chokehold was akin to excessive force. Penny used a type of chokehold that could incapacitate someone after 8 minutes. This is why people want chokeholds banned because they can kill
@slyFoxx365 He's didn't even know that Neely had died when he was giving his report to the police, because Neely was still alive when the police showed up. It's not like he set out to kill the guy on purpose. Maybe if all of this bail reform wasn't a thing, Neely may have been in jail getting three meals a day serving time for his past crimes that he had committed, instead of threatening innocent people on a train because he was hungry.
@RustyShackleford360 How do you feel about criminals with money being able to pay their bail and sit at home waiting on their trials while there are lower income people who are sitting in jail awaiting their trials because they can't afford bail? That's the reason for bail reform. Whether Daniel Penny knew that Jordan Neely died when the police got there doesn't matter. While I do believe that Daniel Penny might not have intended to harm Jordan Neely, his actions resulted in his death.
“The first thing he did was ask for food and he got killed.” Okay, buddy. You left out the 90% most relevant part of the story because you know that’s the part that indicts Neely.
Doesn’t matter. In the incident when Neeley was choked. He dis not assault anyone, being afraid of someone is not justification to choke someone to death until now. And that is a crazy standard.
this morning a homeless man was yelling and threatening people on 145th he had a stick and was acting like he was going to hit someone, everyone walked by and ignored him he stared at me and i smiled at him he then stopped screaming and sat down. just a story...
When you hold a chokehold too long it throws blood clots that go to the brain and causes a stroke and/or clots to the heart that kills. There is no medical care that will save a person that is put in a chokehold for too long, which is why a chokehold is so dangerous. They teach the hold in the military because they are trained to kill and Penny knew it would kill. He intended to kill.
So, Alyssa and the others showed more compassion and understanding for the guy who murdered the Insurance CEO than the guy who was killed on the subway. Interesting.

The father of the homeless man is only looking for a huge cash pay out. He's responsible for not helping his son and throwing his mentally ill son on society. He should not get a cent because we all know a lawsuit is imminent. It's disgusting!
Where was jordan neely's dad when he was homeless and on drugs? where was any of his family? they refused to deal with him because he was an insane drug addict, but now that they can profit from his death suddenly they are all heart broken, lets also not forget that if neely was imprisoned for any one of his many arrests, not only would he not be homeless, but he'd still be alive, but NYC's o]policy of "dont prosecute any black people" for the sake of equality has once again come back to haunt them, who'da thunk it

"In May 2023, Neely, a schizophrenic high on K2, was railing violently at passengers in a crowded subway car. Witnesses say they feared for their lives. Neely’s 42 previous arrests included his 2021 subway assault on a 67-year-old stranger, breaking her nose and fracturing her orbital bone. At the time of his death following Penny’s restraint, Neely had an arrest warrant arising from that case."
I understand restraining someone that is yelling and making people feel uncomfortable/unsafe. However, holding him in a chokehold for over six minutes and causing someone to lose their life is excessive and wrong in my opinion. We can't end someone's existence because they are yelling and making people feel uncomfortable. There are some people out there that do not care about Neely because of his skin, socio-economic status, and/or criminal record, but think about what this could mean in the future. What if this happens to someone you would care about while they were having some kind of episode? Say it was a friend or relative of yours with mental health issues or just had a pretty bad day and started yelling. Now, say someone who has no idea who your friend or loved one is comes up from behind them and chokes them for minutes and minutes while two other people hold your friend or loved one preventing them from even defending themselves. Three men had him restrained, and the guy hadn't hurt anyone there. No need to end him.
@@roxyfoxyyy7 I am not sure what your point is. He died soon after a choke held for enough time to kill someone. There are people that shoot people, and the victim is still alive when the cops come and die days later. Does that mean the shooter did not kill the victim? Most would say of course the shooter killed them.
This is really rich coming from Alyssa, and Sara too, who completely disregarded the harm the healthcare industry has done to this ENTIRE country, visible or not, and saying that “no one should commit acts of violence to effectuate change” but is singing a different tune here saying that this man isn’t the villain. Typical “I,I,I” “me,me,me” centrists/republican, it’s wrong since the problem doesn’t effect me, but right when it does
Sunny clearly doesn't take the subway. No evidence that a man is threatening ppl on the subway and acting crazy and scared other passengers accept what the passengers said... Accept we experience these things on a weekly basis. From her limousine it's so easy to judge the ppl in the subway. I'm a short woman and had to intervene twice for other women in situations on the subway the last three years, bc no one else did and it was scary and I was shaking and ended only when bigger ppl helped. If you don't take the subway, shut up.
This segment shows the issues in our society. For far too long people with mental health issues have been ignored to take care of themselves when they can't. And, the fact remains so every time this happens, does someone have to die. And, in this country we are so divided that we loose compassion and it's now all about red or blue😢
And you know what? People also need to start taking responsibility for their own mental health. Being a crazed dope head is on him. I’m sorry that sounds harsh. We ALL got struggles, we ALL got mental health issues. So many have SEVERE mental health issues. But they don’t do what Neely done. When are we going to stop teaching people they are victims who deserve to kill others and wreak havoc on society and segregate society with crime and drugs. When will people start acting like adults. Neely was an ADULT who if he had the capacity to get on that train had the opacity to not threaten others.
@cassandragalloway7475 Until it is addressed, this will continue to happen when the circumstances are the same. Otherwise, you'll have victims to cry over instead of person. Maybe someone might not die next time, but people will continue to stand up for innocent people in society. When lives are being threatened, few people are going to stop and take time to go through the list of issues the perpetrator may have.
We had a mental case cause trouble with my family and I at the check in line at a hotel on the Strip in Vegas. He threatened to fight me, screamed at my family and security was no where around. I told the guy I was there to vacation not fight. I finally got my family away from him and checked into the hotel. The next day I saw him getting arrested in front of the same hotel
"Where is our compassion?" - Sunny of course, you want to be compassionate to everyone especially those who are vulnerable. BUT realistically - no one is gonna be engage or interact with someone who is clearly mentally ill because you don't know what that person will do to you or anyone else nearby or even to themselves. You do not want to be involved with someone who is clearly not in control.
But do you react to "what if" by causing it?, is the point she tried to make but failed at. Truth is the people on the train might've had a horrible time on the train but no one would died if the guy didn't decide to get involve by being physical. He made sure the worst case scenario played out.

How do you know he didn’t try. You don’t know until you’ve confronted with dealing with a mentally challenged adult.

When someone is making a serious threat, you either act and defend yourself/others or you become a victim to a senseless crime.
Doing something and killing someone are hugely different.
The problem is that this Neely was on the streets after forty two arrests! Period!
If you don't like Daniel Penny Whoopster, then don't watch the story about him
"In May 2023, Neely, a schizophrenic high on K2, was railing violently at passengers in a crowded subway car.

But do you react to "what if" by causing it?, is the point she tried to make but failed at. Truth is the people on the train might've had a horrible time on the train but no one would died if the guy didn't decide to get involve by being physical. He made sure the worst case scenario played out.

Sonny, hope your have a are never in the position of that fear. Nope you can afford your Ubers. I’m glad Penny was there as who knows how many would have been hurt. Penny did good
@@estherjane-m8e she won’t have to. Only the poor working class have to deal with that nonsense
Maybe she should be. In a couple of situations like that. These women have such a far and widespread voice and influence the thoughts of many regular people, yet they're so disconnected from the everyday life of the average person. I take their opinion on what Penny should have done with a HUGE grain of salt, considering they don't know what it feels like to be in that position at the later stages of their life. If he had a history of attacking black men at random fine, but his actions were directly in defense of a black woman. They're blame shifting crazy. Where were the homeless guys family at??? Your kin gets a pass to terrorize the city and gets a free pass to do it because he has mental health issues?! He refused to take his meds. And has 44 previous charges. Come on man, ZERO accountability??? 🤦♂️
Sunny you are so nuts it's almost unbelievable
Whoopi and Joy are just like Biden.... Nothing between those ears
😂😂😂 another win for the good guys

Sunny is ridiculous. Imagine if any republican had that homeless man’s record .. she sounds like she would have let that homeless man in her house. She wouldn’t. But guess what . There’s thousands more like him sunny. Go save some . Go ride the train daily and see if you are safe in the train
People need to mind their own business and yake care of themselves.
Daniel Penny just got dragged through a bs case, when he tried to help people and was treated like trash. The process is the punishment.
Moral of the story, don't help.
He said on the train he was going to kill somebody several witnesses said it
The guys a hero and the case shouldn't have even seen the light of day in a courtroom 🤷
absolutely, I would never ride a NY subway, not enough saviors around.
A hero ain't nothing but a sandwich.
