  • The pink Primrose takes very little care, it's perennial, tons of blooms, and low water required. It grows well on banks and sloping areas that are traditionally hard to establish plants on.

    Our winters are cold the yellow one is fine with it
    I find it grows well with bulbs like spring ones to cover in where they left off and grow well beside iris or lily well too

    I planted two small pots of these in a flower bed last year, not realizing they’d spread. My entire garden bed is full of them this year! They look beautiful, but completely unintended and definitely squeezing out some of the other plants I planted. Not really sure what I’m going to do! I definitely love the cottage garden feel, which now that these have started covering everywhere, it feels even more like, but I may have to move some other plants I’d I decide to leave all these. I’m kind of wondering what next year will look like if I leave them!

      Yes the area I planted them nothing else would grow and I wanted it to fill in, which it did, it sounds like you have a good problem tho, you can dig them up and give some away or find a new area to let them spread into

    i love these. had a lot of trouble getting them to grow from divisions. i think maybe oenethera like very good drainage. the yellow ones came up in a pile of fine sand with no extra water, in west texas about 24" of rain a year. there are white ones of this same plant.

    Hi! These are so pretty! After watching your video, I went out and bought some seeds and finally planted them out in my garden. They are spreading and growing so fast! But I was wondering if they will bloom for me all year round. I live in Hawaii. It's always warm and 🌞 . I hope they'll stay in bloom all year round. 🤞 Oh. Does it really take a year of growing before they bloom?? Can't wait to see them bloom!!!!

    • @DaveTheHillsideGardener
      @DaveTheHillsideGardener  Рік тому

      I'm so excited you liked the video enough to buy seeds. In in zone 6/7 and they put out a spring flush of flowers and get kinda dry in the summer and then perk up in the fall with the occasional bloom. So I really don't know how they will do in your tropical setting. Keep me posted because that will be a great experiment. And your growing season is long enough to get blooms the first year.. best of luck

    What is that height you have at most? Like 16inches? some parts seem even taller maybe. Tons of sites say 6-12 inches but that seems pretty wishful, everything seems to grow taller when you let it.

    • @DaveTheHillsideGardener
      @DaveTheHillsideGardener  4 місяці тому +1

    • @DaveTheHillsideGardener
      @DaveTheHillsideGardener  Рік тому +1

      You can always just pull them up and move them or use a border around them. I let mine grow wild to cover up a steep bank where nothing else will do well on. It may be better for a container or a place you don’t mind it spreading?

    • @DaveTheHillsideGardener

      Late April til June for me before it gets too hot and dried out. If you have an area which stays more moist and not as exposed it may bloom longer.

      I started with just a few transplants from my grandmas garden and it has spread to cover the area. Seeds are easy to find and start but I would recommend buying a few starter plants and they can spread and fill in the area. Hope that helps.

    Dave, I just about swooned when I saw your primroses :-) I've been doing something wrong with mine and cannot get them to grow! I just want to bawl when I hear people commenting on how vigorous they spread! I am in 6b, I realize I don't need to water them much, or fertilize, and that I need to keep them in full sun. I figure my mistake must be what I'm growing them in. They were growing in mushroom compost with some clay mixed in. So I was wondering, what soil do you have your yours growing in? Thank you!

    • @DaveTheHillsideGardener
      @DaveTheHillsideGardener  2 роки тому

      I live in a hard red/yellow clay, so needless to say my soil is not deep. I have added horse manure and compost every spring and mulched with standard mulch. I think the key is keeping the ground covered and they just take care of the rest. Hopefully your luck improves
