    Your video was very thorough and well done. You did a great job of explaining where things go and what they are doing. No disrespect but the install was just OK. Using way too much pipe sealant on the fittings looks sloppy. Overkill on the rightstuff for the thermostat housing. You cheaped out on the hose clamps, you should be using lined clamps your hoses will last longer and lastly watching you struggle with dry hoses on fittings was painful, a little lube goes a long way. Personally I use a little bit of permatex aviation form-a-gasket on the inside of all my rad hoses. It lubes, prevents leaks, protects the hoses and down the road should you need to repair or replace something it makes it easy to remove the hoses as it doesn't harden.

    In a "halfe system" the engine block is cooled by a closed system (anti freeze). manifold and risers are cooled by sea water. In a "full system" only risers are cooled by sea water.

    Just a helpful tip: When you make these videos, you really need to look at the amount of time text is staying on screen. I read particularly fast, but was unable to read most of the text in the 1-2 seconds you gave. If you can't read it out loud in the time that it's up, no one else can either.

    We always utilize an extended life Ethylene Glycol such as Dexcool. Never use a Propylene Glycol type of antifreeze as this type does not have the same heat transfer characteristics and therefore will not works as efficiently.

    The thermostat is used with the housing that comes with the kit. When watching the video look at 6:53 time and the hose they are installing are connecting to the thermostat housing. This dual flow thermostat is inside of the housing.

    Are there any kits for a Sterndrive Volvo Penta 5.0L V8 225D (carb). or should i just be looking at the mercruiser 5.0L V8 ones ? i'm kind of new in these types of engines, but it seems like they are quite similar.

    Marine Closed Cooling Systems
    The unseasonably cold weather this weekend can't help but remind us it won't be long before it's time to start the dreaded process of #boat #winterization all over again. Can it be that time already, it seems like we just got the boat out for the season just a few days ago?
    There is hope though. Installing a Fresh Water Cooling System while not all together eliminating winterization can certainly help reduce the number of steps required to put the boat up for winter. The other thing they help with is less mentioned but certainly worth throwing out in the same discussion because they allow you to extend your #boating season. How you ask? You don't have to drain the engine 2 months early just to play it safe at avoiding that dreaded early freeze every boater has experienced at least once.
    Here are several other good Technical Articles that explain the common terminology among with suggestions.

    Annoying freaking music,,too many hoses,, too messy looking. Ugly and unreliable motor,,WOW cool water option,,just to rip off more people,,like a GPS option in a car,,just to rip you off, that's all that is.

    • @PerfprotechMarineProducts
      @PerfprotechMarineProducts  10 років тому +15

      Bruce I'm sorry you are frustrated. Closed cooling has nothing to do with a "WOW cool water" effect as you said. As a matter of fact the operating temperature stays exactly the same as it does with the open/raw water cooling system. It has to do with protecting the motor from corrosion which is the #1 cause of failure to marine engines. We have many basic articles on our website that explain the technical aspects of Closed Cooling among other marine industry related topics if you would be interested in gathering a basic understanding of these topics.
