    Other alternative if you still the camera be a point-and-shoot: Polaroid SX-70 Alpha 2 + PolaStudio Power Kit + MiNT Flash Bar 2. That setup is ~300$ cheaper than the MiNT SLR670-S. You loose the "manual" options (property of MiNT) but you gain this: you can shoot SX-70, 600 and iType film; and the camera size is almost identical to the original pocket size (after removing the flash bar when unneded).

    Manual controls on a Polaroid camera is the dream. Biggest problem i have with Polaroids is its archival properties. My Polaroid b&w pics turn a tobacco stain colour in the highlights over the course of a year, eventually they end up no good. I now emulsion lift the polaroids and they remain perfect. Have you experienced this yellowing on your polaroids over time.

  • @MaxLamdin

    i’ve shot a loooot of i type film with the Rezivot back for the RZ67 so full manual control and shot a whole project using that set up and found that under exposing by 1/3rd or 2/3rds of a stop got me the best results whereas over exposing at all just muted colours and seemed to make it hazy as you said in the video

    Great video Matt. I recently bought an SLR670-S and am slowly getting to grips with it, though England in winter isn't the best place too use Polaroid film. I was so pleased to see the potential it holds when seeing your photographs - especially the studio shots. One question - what light meter do you like to use?

    • @mylenwyd
      @mylenwyd Рік тому

      Karl, not sure what the answer was to your question, but as for me I love the Gossen Digisix (or Digiflash, if you're also into flash photography) for both incident and reflective metering in a super small and compact package; and in studio or in general when there's no issue in carrying more, the Seconic Litemaster Pro L-478DR (also has Pocket Wizard compatibility).

    Is this the new formula IP/Polaroid stuff? It seems CRRRAZY good compared to the stuff I have in the fridge (still working on 2016/17 "impossible" branded stock). If so, this is extremely pleasing clarity and colour, even the shifted results from cold development. I had all but given up hope for good square format stock and was going to stick to instax. This is great news.

  • @AnchorTH
    @AnchorTH 3 роки тому +3

    I'm not sure if you knew this, but the aperture isn't actually fixed at f/8 and doesn't get anywhere close to a real shutter speed of 1/2000. The SX-70 uses a variable aperture to get the "equivalent" exposure of what would be f/8 1/2000... Since the aperture is variable there is no real value but at the 1/2000 setting it's actually doing 1/180 at around f/22, but again, the aperture is variable due to the design of the shutter blades. The SX-70 shutter is a unique design in that one mechanism is actually both the shutter and the iris.

    • @paulpedersen180
      @paulpedersen180 3 роки тому +2

      Thats true for an original SX-70, but not the Mint SLR-670S version Matt is using. The SLR-670S is an SX-70 that has been rebuilt with a new motherboard, light meter & other modifications, one of which is fixing the aperture at F8. It can take original or 600 film and the time machine is simply an external shutter speed dial, up to 1/2000, that links to the motherboard through the flashbar port. The newer SLR-670X adds a flash sync port that can be used to trigger studio lights. Flash sync speed is 1/125.
      You can send your SX-70 to Mint in Hong Kong and have it modified, which is what I've just done hence I know a little about it. Cost is $400-500USD depending on camera condition and which version you want.

    Please don’t corrupt these videos in progress by inserting irritating ads, disrupting the flow. Put them at the end. I would go out of my way to avoid this advertiser for ruining Matt’s video.

    But You said you were going to shoot at a shutter speed of both 1000 and 250 at 3:18 to see what kind of shadow and highlight details you can get but later you shoot at 2000 instead...I’m curious as to why you’re lying to me and what I did wrong to deserve this Matt

    Hi Matt,what does it mean for your REAL SX 70? Do you still shooting this one?Honestly - cannot compare the original to this 800 Euro MINT camera.BTW...Your tattoo will never be a MINT and still will be a Polaroid Camera from the 60s/70s 😄
