Early adopters of FSD should be grandfathered so they can transfer their FSD to new vehicles. I bought FSD in 2017 for a Model S, upgraded to HW3,and then purchased FSD again in 2021 for a new Tesla Model S. I continue to own both cars.
As a shareholder agreed .. early adopters of FSD powered its rise they should be looked after for this
Or, the cost you paid could be subtracted from your next purchase. Eg let's say you spent 15k, then you get the 8k version for free, or you get the 30k version at half off.

33:06 Ron Barron told in an interview he sold T$LA very early in the beginning after IPO with a nice gain. A friend of him told him he was crazy; the roadster was a succes, the model S would be produced, "you sell stock of this great company you believe in?"
Ron ended up buying T$LA back with a geeat loss..
That takes a lot of courage...
(I dont know, but he sold for $4 and bought back for $8 or something... Realy crazy if you think of it...)

If FSD in the Tesla I am trading in is the same as the FSD in the new Tesla I am buying, why do they not zero out? Why am I left holding the bag for purchasing the same software I already have? In the end it wont matter, autonomy will be subscription based and really cheap.
What is this underlying growth Baron is talking about?
For Tesla? Everything they do. Don't get fooled by the temporary weakness in the car market, it will pass, and also Tesla is coming out with cheaper models too. Then there's the Cybertruck, which is a high-volume and high-margin product. And the Megapack that grows much faster than cars ever could, and has a guaranteed market with EVs and AI datacenters. And of course FSD and Optimus. And Potentially Dojo. And who knows what else they'll come up with. Elon has an endless stream of ideas, and so far almost all of them were exceptional successes.
I can think of no other case where consumer software costs $8,000.
Although FSD may be worth what Tesla is charging, it is a psychological hurdle.
I'll buy it as soon as it is available here in Australia

It only needs to save your life one time and you got your money back.
Solid works is about $5-10k per year

Don't even have to save your life. A relatively minor damage could cost more to fix. Even if you have insurance, you are still paying for it through your increased premium.
And just the reduced stress and exhaustion of long drives worth it.

Herbert, the Uber CEO sold 500,000 shares. However he also acquired 1,000,000 through the exercise of options. So I wouldn't read too much into the transactions here.
Fsd swaps should all be allowed for a fee. say $2500.
Or referral points or something.
Apple doesn’t give anything away! You pay for storage, you pay for apps, you pay for charger cable and brick!
I agree that the value will go up but until you can actually stop looking at the road. I think he should allow people to transfer to new cars at any time. Once it's functional and you can look away. Sure, then he can restrict it.

Good point, road maintenance has been funded by gasoline taxes. The roads will still need to be maintained, so a tax on miles travelled is likely. ☮️
Uber CEO stock sale was planned back in February according to Dillon Loomis (Electrified).
Waymo uses Jaguar cars.

Tesla should allow all owners to charge for free. Its a big benefit and peanuts in the long run. Just tesla vehicles

Not fair for people who bought FSD under that promise and cars were very expensive in 2021-22 ... now those cars have lost lots of value ... without being able to transfer FSD buying a new Tesla makes no economical sense
Elons Masterplan is to fuck Tesla customers and shareholders over,again and again!
They knew the risk. That's why it's so cheap, once robotaxi launches, that FSD worth $100K minimum, and more like $300K.
But still, I would allow transfers, because happy customers are invaluable.
@andrasbiro3007 missing my point. I should be allowed to transfer given that has taken so long. Taking into account that most cars bought in 2020-2023 are under water in the loan there is ZERO incentive for me to buy a new Tesla car (to replace current). That is my only point. I'm very happy with my car and FSD. Zero incentive to replace it.
I agree. As a shareholder, I wish they would allow purchase of FSD to be transferrable to purchase of new Teslas's. This would likely increase the FSD take rate and also help sell more cars.

Tesla makes more money on FSD then on selling you a new car.
And if you bought in that time frame, you can't really complain about how long it takes. It was taking long already. It was a known risk.

Only gives them a little more runway. Rivian is still burning cash faster then the government, and there's no end in sight.
And I think it's not $5B right now, but I didn't pay attention to the details.

Are you aware that the Uber CEO stock sales were based on a plan that was filed with the SEC back in February of 2024 that predates the 8/8 robotaxi announcement? So, this is not a knee-jerk reaction to Tesla as implied here. I guess it is possible that the Uber CEO is seeing the writing on the wall earlier than others, but I suspect such is not the case.
Regarding FSD… If you are buying FSD as a beta version, you are certainly getting it for less than a fully functional FSD package. Expecting unlimited transfers to new a Tesla as long as it isn’t fully developed seems a little unreasonable as it implies that no value was received from the beta versions previously enjoyed. Perhaps you might expect a credit for what you previously paid for FSD as a credit toward FSD on your new Tesla provided the product is not considered market ready, that is, out of Beta or Supervised mode
They want to make money on FSD! It will be their biggest value added component of their car!! It separates them and legacy auto on software!

Should we ask Elon about buying FSD, but we can get an option to have 1 transfer only. This is good, because, FSD is completely not ready or sometimes we can crash and completely destroy the car.

@@dewiz9596 I have worried about this. I have a perfectly decent 2019 Model 3. With FSD paid for. In Europe. It is very possible that something bad could happen to the car before FSD becomes a thing in Europe.
Since Tesla cars are called computer on wheel, should we be able to take our software from one computer to the next. I still salty that I’ve paid €6.000 for FSD and haven’t received it yet. Even when you lease a car like I’m doing, I should be able to transfer FSD from one car to the next. FSD should be linked to an individual, just like the software license you buy for your computer. Never paid so much, for nothing. Since I’m a fan-boy I’ll swallow the pain, but for my next car I won’t buy FSD, until it is delivered.

I think it makes sense to believe that uber CEO has been driving around with a Tesla with FSD and gotten his nightmare realised 😂before 8/8 and start dumping . No CEO is dumb enough to not test it out before the launch 🚀 especially if you are the ceo of the world bigger taxi hailing company 🥵

Michael co-manages partners with Ron (BPTRX - 30ish% TSLA, 10% SpaceX), and David co-manages Focused (12ish% TSLA, 10% spacex). Michael is much better spoken than David and will probably take over Partners, which is the flagship, when Ron retires.
I think Elon would say folks are too hung up in short-vision sales metrics. But I guess folks have to publish something on a daily basis.
The explanation for why Elon doesn’t like transfer makes no sense and is completely wrong. Seriously the opportunity cost lost on the transfers is so small. Plus the value you mention are likely way off too high. Also Elon said the transfer hamper the sales as the reason
The transfer should boost sales. Elon said it's just difficult to do. I have no clue why, maybe some accounting or red tape issue.
And the estimated value of a robotaxi is like $300K. Why do you think Waymo is willing to spend so much on their cars.

FSD will not be profitable and will slowdown or stop the flywheel if they do not have the money to reinvest in its development.
130MW power requirement is VERY expensive computer infrastructure, not just for power.
FSD is already profitable. They have minimum $500K users, who paid like $10K on average, that's $5B revenue. And until recently they only had a small team and relatively small datacenters (compared to what they are building now). Increased take rate will bring in several times more revenue, and the new datacenters are not only for FSD.
And I'm pretty sure they'll get their power from their own solar farm and Megapacks.

When you buy a computer, you can’t transfer your old windows to it either. Why is there the expectation to get free FSD and then have it continuously updated for free forever? They may have to charge for the upgrades…

Congrats, but do you assume that in the next 5 years Nvidia will make another 10x? I don't, but I think that Tesla will do.
But before that Tesla 20x-ed, and it will again soon. Nvidia's growth for the future is far from guaranteed. The valuation is based on extreme margins and extreme growth, and neither is sustainable. It has to pop sometime soon. It may run for a few more years, and 10x again, but much more likely to pull back or crash entirely. All it takes is a little calming of the AI gold rush, or a competitor to show up.
Probably the best is to start selling Nvidia and buying Tesla. Not financial advice of course.
