    I hope you and your family get through the storm unscathed with minimal or no damage to your property. I commend you for being prepared and willing to help your neighbors as well. I wish for you the most benevolent outcome. May the source, the one force be with you and your family. Stay safe and well Tom.

    A tip from disaster prone Japan. What we are advised to do if and when we have a major earthquake, typhoon, volcanic eruption or even extreme snow and the water supply is cut, is to wrap plates and bowls in clingfilm/saran wrap and place the food on the top of it. This helps to preserve water supplies as the need to wash dishes is greatly reduced. Everything else you mentioned, is pretty much standard procedure in the event of typhoon/hurricane preparedness. I hope you come out of it unscathed.

      Thank you for this great tip! I can even use it this tip when traveling in my RV and run out of water. 🙏

    i dont get why yourd ever rely on a gas generator in any scenario, over solar, just kit out an electric van (or caravan in Tom's case), with LFP power system, Victron, additional solar for ground deployment, wind turbine for when you reach steady weather etc

    Fingers crossed that it bypasses your area...your area needs a break this year from the videos that you showed.

    • @TomAntos
      @TomAntos  10 місяців тому

      Yes we do need a break! Many people still have the blue tarps on their roofs and some businesses are still closed and repairing.

    I'm sorry you live in a place where hurricanes are common. It saddens me to see those terrible images of destruction of your homes after the passage of the hurricane. But if your houses were built of reinforced concrete instead of wood, the damage would be minimal or almost non-existent. Another thing that surprises me, why don't you stock up on (frozen) foods, gasoline, clean water at the start of the summer hurricane season instead of rushing to grab these necessary items?
    In Italy we do not have the hurricane season, but torrential rains (called water bombs) that can happen any day of the year causing landslides, flooding of rivers that unload their violence on homes, overwhelming cars, industrial and agricultural warehouses but the houses remain intact because they are built in reinforced concrete. This is what I meant: to build your houses in reinforced concrete instead of wood.
    Good luck and God bless you

      I love Florida life so I feel happy to live here other then when a bad hurricane hits. I lived in a lot of different places around this beautiful planet and each place has good and bad things to offer when it comes to climate. Most homes here in Florida are build out of reinforced concrete. unfortunately concrete can't be used to build roofs. So when a strong hurricane comes it also creates lots of small tornados and when the high winds come they destroy the roof. Once the roof is gone everything inside the houses is destroyed. Another thing is that most of Florida is so close to the sea level. So any bit of strong current that a hurricane brings, the towns are flooded. Some people build their homes out of concrete and up on a raised concrete foundation so that they are not affected by the rising flood waters... but once a house is raised higher it also means the roof is more exposed to high winds and those homes are usually the first ones to lose their roofs. I did see other technique of building homes out of solid fiberglass, or enclosed metal so the roofs don't get ripped off. Plus a few other building techniques that each have their plusses and minuses. The biggest thing is the price of the homes. A stronger build home will be a lot more expensive than a cheap mobile home that gets ripped up in a hurricane. What part of Italy are you in?
